Only spent two nights there but had a great time. Beautiful accommodations and views. Staff, especially Nigel and Freddy, made it a great stay. The weather prevented exploration but s sitting by the river with a few beers was very relaxing. The road is under construction and while we had an AWD van the clearance made it a VERY difficult drive due to the wet conditions and ruts from heavy machinery. I would call ahead and find out conditions before taking the drive. Perhaps leaving the car in San Ignacio and having a 4x4 take you there might be a better option until conditions improve. That being said, Gaia came through by not only fixing a flat tire but also escorting us out of the park in case we got stuck. 5 star service!!
Our family stayed at Gaia over the Christmas holiday and couldn't have had a better experience. The word exceptional doesn't do justice to describe the staff here. From a warm welcome on a cool and rainy day (Hi Nigel) to the thoughtful cleaning staff who left amazing towel art in our rooms (Hi Clara) to amazing guides for complimentary and paid tours (Hi Rudy, Isael, Sam, and Calbert) to the waitstaff who anticipated what you wanted to drink (Hi Freddy and Lucy) - and not the mention the staff who arrived extra early one morning to help us safely drive our car past the treacherous turn in the wet red clay after days of rain so we could make our tour to the ATM Cave. This is the place to stay if you want to get away from it all and be near (ish) to sights most tourists don't see. The road/drive into Gaia is enough to keep some away, but those who brave it reap the rewards. This place has its own private waterfall (and 'beach'), is closer than most places to the hidden gem of Caracol (where we saw a jaguar on the road on the way there) and the Rio Frio Cave and Big Rock - another great waterfall. Let Gaia be the place where you get away from it all and get back to nature in luxury. If you enjoy ‘climbing’ over rocks to reach one waterfall after another - this is the place to stay. I wish we would have had one more warm, sunny day so we could have just kept going up and up and up from one fall to the next (just be careful as they are slippery). Take advantage of all the things they offer as each one is worth it. Thank you Team Gaia for all you did to make a stay with you amazing and memorable!…
We drove up to pine ridge hoping to see the five sisters waterfall, and was greeted by Nigel at the reception area. Due to Covid, the waterfall was only available for their guests only. Nigel was very welcoming he checked our temperature ( along with hand sanitizing) and let us to take a peek through their restaurant of the waterfall itself, and also recommended us the Big Rock Fall is not too far if we can go and check it out, or if we wanted, we could book a night too. Long story short- we booked the night but due to weather conditions we were not able to reach anywhere close to the area- and their phone lines are out too, so we ended up emailing them and asking if we can move it to another date instead. After so many rearrangements we made it back to Gaia 6 weeks later. ( Big thank you to Nigel with all the emails back and forth) I dont think any words can describe this place because you wake up to the sound of waterfall and you can see it from the room too! The bedroom is cozy, stylish, cute and they have umbrella + a bottle of hand sanitizer as well. I personally loved the details and decorations in the bathroom the most. As you move around the resort, there are numerous amount of birds to look out for, along with lots of different plants and orchids too. We took a hike down to see the waterfall and it was absolutely beautiful, majestic and overwhelming. Lastly when it comes to dining- the porkchop was tender, juicy and full of flavors. Their special for the night was shrimp curry and I have to say that was probably the best curry I have had in Belize. So much flavors in the curry and they actually cook it with banana/plantain. We were extremely wow-ed by that dish. Breakfast was great- especially the belizean option - beans were fantastic and the fruits were fresh too. We hope to return soon for a longer stay ( 1 night is def. not enough) and get to dive in the waterfall next time! Again thank you to Nigel for the outstanding services we have recieved during our stay! …
