The staff is wonderful. Went for a girls weekend to celebrate my Aunts 80 birthday. My Mother is 82 and I did not book a handicapped room. Staff understood the problem and brought us a shower bench. Bathing problem solved. The river view was great, rooms clean and well kept. Lobby very well decorated and clean. Breakfast was well prepared and everything clean. Best place to stay in the Smokies We will be back. I would give it a 10 star if I could.

Hotel's Favourite
I stayed at the Inn for Christmas this year with my mom who is 88. We were offer an upgrade to a room right off the breakfast area. It was better for my mom with her walker and she didn't have to walk far. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One gentleman helped me open my car doors that were frozen from the previous night snowfall and cold temperatures. John at the front desk got my mom a blanket because she was cold. We were sitting in the outside/inside breakfast area one night. I enjoyed the amenities of hot chocolate, cappuccino anytime and popcorn at night. The breakfast HOT was awesome. Again I saw the staff work hard to keep it clean and well stocked. Hotel doing it right with wearing gloves and mask while serving. I so enjoyed having a waffle again travelling. Love a breakfast with a waffle maker. I had a wonderful conversation with the GM one afternoon in the breakfast area. We talked about lots of life things. One morning she wasn't able to serve a hot breakfast due to lack of staff. The roads were steep and icy for them to get to work that morning. Leaders need to make tough decisions, but people are always first. She treats her staff like family. Rooms were clean and comfortable beds. I always saw staff keeping the lobby area clean. Room staff excellent. We will return for sure. Excellent Place. Extra bonus. We got a White Christmas

Family Friendly. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was great. There were lots of different items to choose from. My only suggestion is for housekeeping to pay a little more attention when cleaning the floors. We found food under the table and chairs.

Let me start with the hotel. It is quite attractive from the outside, and has a pleasant, large lobby and reception desk. Staff were friendly and efficient, and offered us freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The rooms are not overly large, but clean and comfortable and nicely furnished, with comfortable beds. Modern fixtures in the bath. Rooms on the upper floors include balconies, and our rooms (my wife's mother was traveling with us in her own room) looked out over the Little Pigeon River. "Little" indeed. It is about as wide as a good-sized creek. However, there was a family of ducks paddling around, and waddling up onto the bank, where youngsters were happy to feed them and they were happy to be fed. A Blue Heron glided gracefully down its length towards dusk. Quite pretty and peaceful, if you can ignore the sound of traffic nearby. Which brings us to Pigeon Forge. Imagine Disneyland, Universal Studios (King Kong climbing a building, another building made to look like the Titanic), Las Vegas, a dozen State Fairs and every faux "Olde West" town you've ever seen in one abominable mash up. Ferris wheels, amusement arcades, garish souvenir shops, all kinds of theme dinner theater ("Hatfields and McCoys!"; "Pirate Night!"- because so many buccaneers plied the seas of Tennessee, I guess.) and a 6-lane thoroughfare (not counting turn lanes) of non-stop traffic. We picked the Inn on the River in Pigeon Forge as a place to spend the night because its website described it as a cozy inn on the Pigeon River at the foot of the Smokies, even using phrases like "rushing river" and "gateway to the Smokies". We envisioned a delightful place under the trees, alongside a wild river, with hiking trails and outdoor beauty. I cannot describe the dismay we felt upon laying eyes on the utter mess that is Pigeon Forge. The Inn on the River is not to blame for what Pigeon Forge is like, of course. However, I feel that their advertising very inaccurately, if not deceptively, implies a much different setting than what it actually is. Also, I listened to my wife making our reservations. The person she spoke to was very friendly and talkative, and my wife kept talking about how we were looking forward to being on the river and exploring the countryside with what time we had. It had to be very clear to him that we had no idea what Pigeon Forge was like, yet at no point did he ever say "I think I should make something clear to you". Yes, we might have altered our plans and he might have lost the booking, but it would have been the right thing to do. So. If you KNOW what Pigeon Forge is all about and that is your destination, The Inn on the River is a very nice place to stay. But Caveat Emptor!

Steven thank you for the kind words about our little Inn. We are happy that you were pleased with our property. I do understand that if you were planning on a quite setting Pigeon Forge is not where you want to be. We do try to offer a little rest and relaxing by the river. We hope you will find what you are looking for in your travels. Jeannie Lea
