Expecting luxury and sadly got a three star experience at best. The rooms in the main house are good but nothing special. The rooms in the stables are bad - we've had more comfortable stays in the Holiday Inn and the fixtures and fittings are decidedly substandard. The restaurant wasn't open during our stay so we were relegated to the pub which was mediocre, certainly not reflective of a luxury boutique resort. On the positive side, whilst our experience of the staff was mixed, there were some stand-out examples of care and professionalism. Shane at the Whiskey Bar was the definition of what you'd expect at a top notch hotel and then Rosie + some of the breakfast staff were wonderful too. The Torridon could very well become a Luxury Boutique Resort and Hotel, a place like no other (quotes from the website) but it has a fair amount of work to do to get there, from the physical aspects to the emotional experience.

Room 19, overlooking rooftops. Placed Birthday cards on windowsill which was in need of a good clean and paint. My husband bought me a Birthday Cake which was in our room on arrival. The cake wasn’t the best, quite tasteless and we only managed a slice each. Very expensive at £20!! Raining in the evening and as the main dining room was fully booked we had to go outside to the Bo and Muc which is ok if you are wearing jeans and an anorak. Meal was ok… my husband had hot langoustines which did not come with the necessary utensils and menu not inspiring. Breakfast was awful - the haddock omelette had perhaps two flakes of haddock and my tiny kipper was overcooked and hard at the edges. Gleneagles is 5 star, the Torridon is definitely not. As one of the contributors mentioned…this is a hotel living off its reputation. Expensive and disappointing.

We recently stayed for one night whilst driving the NC500 along with our son and daughter in law who were celebrating their wedding anniversary and can only describe our experience of the hotel as one of disappointment. It is in a beautiful location, the staff are welcoming and hard working - however the rooms are a complete let down. We were expecting a 5 star room, but had a stained carpet, window blinds in the bathroom which had signs of damp on them, a noisy fan outside the window - our room was directly above the kitchen/dining room - with noise from below until late into the evening and what we felt were cheap furnishings and fittings (plywood drawers in the cupboard?) which were not what we would expect from a 5 star hotel. We did have a nice meal in the Bo and Mac, but breakfast was also slightly disappointing, we had much better in every other place we stayed during our trip - with the best being a Bed and Breakfast who provided much more choice and was better quality at a fraction of the cost. Would we choose to stay here again? it is a definite no, there are many better, more cost effective options in Scotland.

We stayed at the Torridon for 2 nights as part of a road trip around Scotland. The staff made us feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room had a glorious view over the loch and was spacious, well equipped and luxurious, having a sofa, bath in the room and separate shower room. We experienced superb meals in both the Bo & Muc and the 1887, as well as tea and delicious cake in the drawing room on arrival. We also enjoyed sampling the Torridon's own gin in the Whisky Bar. Service was efficient yet friendly and we were very well treated at all times by every member of staff. The location is stunning with wonderful trail walks that enabled us to have a car free day.

Like the previous contributor I too have to reluctantly relay my recent experience of a one night stay at Torridon in August which left me somewhat disappointed. Like many other guests I first became aware of the hotel through the television programme and was delighted to receive the gift of an overnight stay from my sons for a 'special' birthday. So I truly wanted the stay to be special and exceptional . Sadly this was not the case. Like a previous reviewer we too found ourselves in a room which can only be described as small, with underwhelming views of flat roofs at the rear of the hotel. Now knowing how much this room cost my sons , I feel that the quality of the accommodation fell considerably short of both their and our expectations. Over recent years we have stayed at a number of country house hotels in Scotland (namely Balbirnie House and Ballathie) which do not purport to be 5 Star hotels but offer accommodation which was in my opinion superior to Torridon. There is no doubt that the location is spectacular as are the grounds and surrounding walks but that in itself cannot merit an additional star rating. However, the dining experience was very good although somewhat pricey with the obligatory £20 levy for service and the extra charge for coffees afterwards. To summarise: the weather and location were exceptional, sadly the hotel overall fell short of our expectations.
