#1 of 7 hotels in Strathpeffer
Travellers' Choice
Peacefully set in its own grounds with lovely views over the colourful village square, this chateau style hotel’s traditional features have been carefully retained to strike just the right Highland note. A warm welcoming feeling comes as much from the friendly staff as from the fine wood panelled public rooms which have been carefully preserved. Strathpeffer itself is just steps away from the hotel and is renowned as an attractive Highland spa resort with fabulous Victorian architecture. Be sure to enjoy the scenic views of the village below from the open veranda. The massive peak of Ben Wyvis is the backdrop to this charming village. It’s a perfect base from which to explore Scotland’s dramatic Northern Highlands – mountainous countryside, sparkling streams, waterfalls and golden shores.

First impressions were not good. When we checked in later in the afternoon,we found that one of the rooms booked had not been made up after being vacated by the previous occupants.Full marks to the manageress who quickly resolved the situation. Both rooms were clean and tidy but spartan. The single-glazed windows rattled loosely in their frames.Breakfast was slow,of average quality and somewhat frugal. The free wifi turned out to be accessible only in the ground floor common areas with no signal in the bedrooms. The corridors were shabby. To cap it all,we asked for a copy of our bill (a fair chunk for a short break) on leaving after having paid and were told to print our own copy off the internet....

Travelled to Scotland on a holiday with Shearings. My room was like a broom cupboard and very basic and tatty, the carpet was badly stained in several places, the bathroom looked quite new and was ok. The ceilings in the corridors were all patched and the carpets were badley stained and smelt horrible. The food was the worst I’ve ever had in a hotel, staff couldn’t cope and you were lucky if your meal was lukewarm! Had to ask at reception for coffee & milk and resorted to raiding maids trollies for toilet rolls.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The rooms are old and tired and smelled musty. The food and service is appalling long wait to be served and food cold and Inedible. They are understaffed and unable to cope with large groups.

This hotel was disgracefull. We travelled with Caledonian travel whom we had no issues with. However the first night of our stay the evening meal was cold. The staff or lack of staff was very noticeable they were not coping. Breakfast the next morning or lack of breakfast was awful. Dinner that evening well we did not have any dinner as they run out of food. When I questioned them the staff were abusive and rude. I had a banana and crisps. It got a bit better once the other coach parties had left. If you cannot get staff do not take bookings you cannot handle. I had stayed in this hotel previously and it was very good. The so called chef needed a good clean up his overall was grey and dirty. Looking at the reviews on here this is an ongoing problem. I have raised this with my tour company It should be given a wide berth.
