This handsome row of 3 buildings was transformed by American owner Todd Warnock with at least £10 million. The original 1840's manse in the center with its restaurant and reception. Our huge suite "Haldane" on the front of the first (actually newly built) building. Hope for good weather as you pop next door for food and drinks. Welcomed with in room cocktails and shortbread we admired the many antiques and paintings, however air conditioning there is none, only a white plastic floor standing fan.Preparing for our first dinner we were stunned to get no hot water, only air and rust. After the boiler burst that day instead of testing our taps or advising us of what had happened I had to phone them. In short I was SO disappointed not to get a wash, when I spoke to the duty manager Phil Scott I requested financial compensation. Instead of abject apology from him he made it clear he was not into compensation and he offered to move us at 6.45pm with dinner calling to an unattractive other room which I declined. So our evening was thoroughly spoiled and the offer of an extra (3rd night) and some extra wines did not help us. The "Handyman" later managed a far better apology than the manager could provide. The hot water was restored before bed. Good turn down and housekeeping. Would have liked more hangers.Fabulous shower with inbuilt hot towel rail and giant bath most luxurious, when there was hot water! Dinner and breakfast food was good and one day they may get a Michelin star, but the kitchen was often very slow. The room and the various sitting rooms are excellent, the Mara restaurant space fine not huge. Our four figure two night DB&B package greatly spoiled by the incident with the manager. I also found the hotel position disappointing, not having good views, with a bowling green to the front and cemetery to side and golf course traffic passing.

This is our second visit here in a year and on both occasions we would highly recommend this hotel, The rooms are beautiful furnished to the highest standard and really large and spacious. The staff are without exception pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is gorgeous. We ate in the hotel restaurant Mara this time, it wasn’t open on our last visit. The food was delicious. My only slightly critical comment is that if you eat on more than one night your choice may be slightly limited . However the presentation quality and flavours were all fabulous. The area is beautiful , especially if you are lucky like we were and the sun shines! And if you golf, we’ll you’ll be in seventh heaven!

I’d give the hotel 4.5 if I could. It has old world charm with the modernity I like in a 5 star hotel. My room in the Glenshie Building is v large, very attractive, very quiet and very light and very comfortable with a great 4 piece bathroom. The breakfast is really really good (no buffet element, phew) and the staff are kind and polite. They can organise great activities, walking, cycling, deer stalking, whisky tours etc if you like. The lounges are lovely. Of course right next to the Beach and the mountains ( and a rather famous golf course) it is a wonderful location.

We thought we knew most of the best places to stay and dine in the Highlands, but this was our first visit to the Links House. Absolutely stunning! Enormous room very comfortably furnished. Excellent meal, mostly locally sourced and beautifully prepared and presented. Impressive wine list (although might consider adding a few bottles at lower price points). Especially want to acknowledge extraordinary staff, mostly young. Energetic, helpful and welcoming, and apparently coping well with changing restrictions and rules. We appreciated the table side visit by the chef as we finished our dinner. Mind you, this is quite a fancy place. I was glad I had brought a blazer to wear to dinner, and sort of wished I had put on a tie. Highly recommended.

My wife and I returned to Links House to mark the occasion of our 27th Wedding Anniversary. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with so much warmth by the Links House staff, who are all so attentive to your every need. During this visit we were in the Fleet room within the Glenshiel building. Our room was both spacious and beautifully furnished. After a relaxing end to the afternoon enjoying coffee and shortbread in the lounge, we prepared for our evening meal in the wonderfully appointed Mara restaurant. The locally sourced monkfish and venison were delicious highlights from a memorable meal. We can easily see why Links House has recently been voted the 6th best hotel in the UK by Conde Naste magazine. Dornoch has a special atmosphere all of its own and provides a spectacular backdrop for the sophistication of Links House, but what really sets this establishment apart are the fantastic people who work here. We are looking forward already to coming back for our next visit.
