This is probably our 3rd or 4th visit to Barony, and first in probably 6 years. As Marriott Vacation Club Resorts go, it is on par with others in terms of amenities. The parcel of land it is on has limited ocean frontage, so many of the amenities are scattered back inland, which is fine. They have multiple pools, and well-manicured lounging and activity spaces throughout the property. Interiors of the units have been updated since the last time we were here and they are extremely nice. They use sliding doors throughout the units which save space. I particularly like that they have replaced the big tubs in the master bath with a large shower, but here's an area they could have made better. The shower is way too large for the small single shower head. They should have put in a rani head in the center or a second head on the other side....or a bench on the other side. As is, it is a lot of very pretty, yet wasted space. The kitchen has most everything you could want or need for a short stay, but the refrigerator door in our unit opened at a very awkward angle. This was not the case in the room next door. Small things like this drive you crazy. Thank God, the TV's allow you to bring your Firestick now, but they don't tell you the best way to connect (which happens to be plugging into an available hdmi port on the proprietary box on the back of the TV, not an open hdmi on the tv itself). Nice to have wifi in the unit, but speeds are horrible, averaging less than 10mbps in our room. This makes watching HD content on Netflix difficult at times. All-in-all, the Barony property is very nice, but has a few more things they need to improve on to make the jump to great!

Marriott Barony Beach did a fantastic job providing a clean, peaceful and beautiful place for our family vacation. Check in was streamlined and efficient. Our rooms appeared very clean and comfortable with everything needed provided. They skipped pillows on couch and throw on the bed for cleanliness but otherwise as usual well equipped. Facilities all spotless and they had hand sanitizer and wipes all around the property and definitely near any gates or anything you may need to touch. Chairs near pool cleaned often and grills and outside tables in common areas cleaned at least daily. Staff all friendly and helpful. Some people outside near pool not wearing masks but majority of people in court yard and any shared spaces complied. Gorgeous beach an easy walk away. We brought all our food and cooked using the grills a lot so really never needed to go anywhere except beach and bike rides. Very beautiful property. I would definitely return.

I enjoyed my stay here. Value for money is great because you get breakfast included as well as the activities you can sign up to. Most are free and you can give tips but they provide a great way to socialise and meet other travellers whilst exploring parts of LA. The location is in between two metro stops and a few blocks from central Hollywood (Chinese Theatre etc). The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hostel again and recommend it to others.

Staff graciously honored the requests we'd asked for in advance. Beach area and pool area was nice however in a weeks time there I never saw an employee cleaning tables or chairs. We ordered their low country boil for dinner one night, was very good. Do not like the barn doors in the master bathroom, they never close properly. Unit was in working order, well supplied.
Sadly we had to file an incident report because of our guest taking a serious fall in the shower. The tube texture had worn off the bottom leaving a very slippery surface and there were no grab bars to hold onto. She suffered deep bruises and abrasions on her arms. The next day she was very stiff and sore, we asked if they would comp a back massage but would not accommodate that request which is the least I thought they should do. She could have hit her head had much more serious injury. Then the next day our room keys stopped working, took 3 employees and about 30 minutes to get back into our unit. We have stayed at Barony several times but this visit left a sour taste in our mouth. Please note that only 1 car per unit can park in the garage, any others must park outside in the parking lot

We have stayed at Barony Beach 4-5 times over the last 20 years, sometimes just our family of 4, and others reserving 2 villas to accommodate family or friends. We have thoroughly enjoyed each visit, from the multiple pools & jetted tubs to the proximity to the beach to the fine golf courses nearby to the more recent on-site restaurant by the pools. The property is beautiful, with shaded “porch swings” spread throughout, activities for young and old, beautiful landscaping, & well appointed villas. One disappointment was a year that our villas were in the garden section tucked back away from the beach. Some may prefer the quieter location that seems to suit families with small children better. Another highlight of this resort is the ability to rent bicycles on-site. Many wonderful trails snake through all of Hilton Head, including Port Royal Plantation.
I will disclose that I am a Marriott Vacation Club member, but this had no influence on my review.

Hotel is generally clean and willing to help with questions. BUT...My family and I were hesitant to come because of COVID but we looked at hotel’s information about COVID policies-face masks required when walking around, staff cleaning common areas, closures of activities and decided to trust in Marriott. What a joke! In a 4 hour period, I saw one staff member wipe some common areas by the pool and she was not wearing gloves and using the same one rag to wipe everything in the area. Hardly any guests are wearing mask or being told by staff to please put the mask on while they’re walking around the hotel. All the handsanitizers in common areas have been empty for 2 days. Bar area is never wiped down between customers. Insane. I wasn’t paranoid about coming here and getting sick but I can’t believe how so many people don’t care and the staff are not looking out after those guests who do care about public safety. It would be helpful if staff reminded guests about masks when walking around hallways, public areas, inside public areas.

We just returned from a week at the Barony Beach Club resort. We were a little concerned about travelling in this time of COVID but I must say that the resort is doing a fantastic job of making you feel safe. Most people complied with the face mask requirements but,as with anything, there are a few jerks who did not. There are sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer stations and reminder signs everywhere.. Pools and beach were full but not over crowded. The registration staff and concierge were very helpful and accommodating. My wife had a massage at the Spa and enjoyed it very much. Pool bar and grill are open ( with precautions.) We are timeshare owners at another Hilton Head resort but found the Barony to be delightful.

We stayed here for a week after a week at Marriott’s Heritage Club and we had a terribly disappointing stay at the Barony. We had been assured by Marriott prior to our stays that they were taking public health and social distancing measures seriously and this was the case at the Heritage Club, but definitely not at the Barony. We frequently saw Barony staff and patrons without their masks on in common areas, though, there were clearly signs that stated that masks were required. The restaurant at the Barony also had daily Happy Hours and live music. Both of these activities seemed to fly in the face of proper public health measures to protect the well being of patrons during a pandemic. The pools and beaches were also so crowded that it felt unsafe to go to either except for in the early morning or late evening. In addition, the staff at the restaurant all y’alls were quite rude - they did not even try to be pleasant and seemed quite bothered to take our orders.
One of the elevators in our building was also out of service for the entire week and this was a challenge as a member of our party walks with a cane and can only do stairs with great difficulty.
I am sad to report the apparent decline of the customer service at the Barony. We have vacationed here for years, but won’t be back again until some remedial customer service and public health trainings have been provided to the leadership and staff at this resort.

We stayed here based on reviews which were pretty good before we booked. They neglected to mention that the property is split in 2 locations, surrounding the Westin (which itself looks marvelous). If you are placed in the garden section, there is a pretty good walk to the main property area and no direct beach access. You are literally behind the Westin:-( We were lucky enough to be in one of the main buildings which have their own issues. The room was very clean and quite nicely laid out. We were in room 9343 (on the 4th floor) and the view was of the interior courtyard/pool. However, there are NO opportunities for breakfast, not even coffee...unless you walk over to the Westin (unless you want to pay for a Keurig cup in their "convenience" store). I understand the concept of condos are to eat in room, but those of us without children staying here might like a coffee for our morning beach walk or a late night drink at the bar. Not happening because that closes at 7! Very disappointed because we read online that bikes can be rented for $5/day. When we arrived, it was $30 for 3 days as a minimum. Not everyone wants 3 days of bike riding:-( A car / bike is a must to go anywhere and based on the property's location, that's a pretty far hike. My suggestion would be to stay at a property further south on the island and closer to accessible extras.

This is a beautiful property. This is my second time staying at a Marriott Resort property and it has become my favorite brand and top choice for out of town trips. The location is very quiet (we stayed in a courtyard Villa). They have fun activities to play in the courtyard area and we never had an issue with parking (other than the fact that it was a tight squeeze for a pickup truck).
I was most impressed with the cleanliness and staff. Every staff member we encountered was wearing a mask and that really made my group feel comfortable. Kudos to them for that!! Also, the employees spoke and we never saw them goofing off or not working. The unit was clean, had been sanitized, and smelled fresh. Also the balconies are amazing. It was a short walk to the beach and plenty of pool options! We also liked all the additional extras they included like a fresh sponge to wash dishes with, laundry detergent, and even alcohol wipes. Lovely!! The only thing I didn't see were dryer sheets but we managed to dry out clothes without them.
I would most definitely recommend this spot and would be open to staying here again!

The kitchen was fully stocked with pots & pans of various sizes, baking sheets, etc and you can always call front desk if there’s something you need & don’t have
I agree that's frustrating, as it has been for all the Marriott Vacation Club properties we've stayed at. I assume you put in your preference when you made the reservation. Just call a week or two in advance and see if you can get the one you requested. If they can't tell you, just make sure your preference is in the file. We usually get what we requested if we made the reservation well in advance.
