Nestled in Charleston's historic district, the Market Pavilion Hotel charms guests with its grandeur and Southern elegance, including a rooftop bar and pool that garner praise. The hotel's location earns accolades for being a convenient base for exploring. However, some guests feel the cost doesn't quite align with the value.
While the rooms are celebrated for their spaciousness and cleanliness, there are occasional maintenance concerns. Attentive service and thoughtful extras like fresh coffee enhance the experience, though some suggest a deeper clean could be beneficial.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel is fantastic for many reasons! The location is ideal for walking to all the attractions and restaurants. The decor is everything you would want in an old “Charleston” feel with generous room and bathroom sizes. The hotel staff is attentive and polite. The hotel has one of the finer restaurants in town plus a lively rooftop bar. Lastly, you get all of these items for a reasonable price point compared to some others around town. Bonus is turndown cookie plate, so fun.
The hotel is ideal for a bachelorette party, couples vacationing post retirement or newly weds, basically anyone not with kids 16 or younger. Why? First and mainly, the hotel is set up with no lobby. So while all the hip, dressed up guest are enjoying their wine at the downstairs bar or eating their steaks in the fine restaurant, your family is doing the walk of shame down the middle of the action. Talk about ruining the mood! The hotel has this amazing perk of $$$ credit if you book direct with them; however, you can’t use as a to go dessert for the kids or a glass of wine for tired mommy without sitting down and subjecting the waitstaff to your crazy crew. My crew is well traveled and behaved and still very uncomfortable.
So I would definitely stay here again but not with any child under 16ish.

Traveled to Charleston for some much needed R & R over the holiday weekend. We ended it rested and relaxed, in part due to Market Pavilion. Located within walking distance to many of the historical and architectural sights, and great dining. We enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra day! We arrived early evening. Check-in was a breeze, and having the roof top bar for sunset cocktails and 225 Grill available in house for tired, thirsty and hungry travelers was a plus. Rooms were well appointed, and ours had a balcony overlooking the city market. Complimentary coffee, tea and pastries available nearly all day, Bathroom is large with Bulgari toiletries. Towels thick, plush, and very absorbent. Roof top pool a great venue to chill out, if you are up there before noon. Fair warning: at 12 o'clock, the pool bar cranks up the music on the sound system from 0 to 11.
There is a convenience store located around the corner on Cumberland St, and a few blocks 3 down E Bay St are a grocery store and liquor store (if you happen to be searching for ingredients to make a few French 75s or mimosas,)

They just reopened and I needed a break! I used to travel frequently to Charleston and Market Pavilion was always my go to when they had availability. I was surprised to hear when I booked that they had just completed a major renovation. From the time they greeted me at the front door to the time they held the door to my Uber as I left I had the best getaway from the doldrums of daily COVID stress. The bellman and front desk greeted me with a smile and answered every question, provided me with a complimentary bottle of water (that was a nice new touch). I was so at ease as the staff not only talked about the efforts they make to keep their guests safe but put them into practice continually. I was lucky enough to get a Queen room with a lovely view of the Custom's House. Even though I only ventured out in the afternoons to a few of my favorite shops on King Street, the bellman greeted me with a friendly hello as if he were an old friend. I was so pleased that they have MAJORLY upgraded the sometimes finicky WIFI that I have experienced in the past. I am so loving the new wallpaper and curtains. The new plush bedding, to die for linens and my personal favorite the marble bathrooms. The time in my room was capped off by the most comfy robe I have ever worn! If I could have worn it shopping I would have!! The Hermes toiletries that has become a favorite of mine from before. I wish I were still traveling for business to Charleston regularly because everything I love about Market Pavilion just got better! It was nice to travel for fun this time and so glad I picked an old favorite...that is now a new favorite again. I actually left feeling relaxed and ready to return to my hectic life in Virginia.

Disappointing experience especially since our stay was after our wedding. Our room was depressing with no sunlight--essentially an inside room on a cruise ship. I asked for a view, which they wrote down but failed to execute. I also initially expressed interest in upgrading to a corner room, which they should've encouraged me to do. While there, we discovered a patch of brown substance on the floor of the bathroom with our bare feet, it blended in with the floor but it should've been cleaned if the room was properly cleaned on the front end. I discovered it after I showered. We had ordered in-room dining, I expressed my understanding about the bathroom despite being disgusted and merely asked that they not send someone to clean the bathroom until after an hour to allow us to eat. Instead, they showed up shortly after, while we were eating. The night was fairly ruined at that point and I was ready to check out. The front desk never followed up with me and I had to ask for an apology. The pool is nice and the staff at the bar was exceptional, but the accommodations were halfhearted for a hotel that is trying to market as a luxury hotel in the Charleston Market.

We chose this hotel for its good location and pool. Our room was a king suite and we liked the setup with the chaise chair, as well as the working desk. The bathroom had some soap scum/mildew but it might just be part of the humid climate.
Staff on the floor was always very attentive. We liked the cookies and fruit in the afternoon and continental breakfast and hot coffee and tea.
The rooftop pool was nice. More attention could be spent changing towels and cleaning up when guests have left the area. But fo July, I’m very glad we had a place to cool off.

The Market Pavilion exceeded our expectations - and we were expecting something really nice. Check-in was quick and easy, then when we got off the elevator fresh coffee for me and hot water for tea for my wife were right in front of us, along with a credenza nearby featuring cookies and fruit for the taking. Our room was spotless, very fresh and had some beautiful furniture; especially an extra wide chair and ottoman that was super comfortable for sitting and reading a book. The marble tiled bathroom and shower were lovely. Our bed was really comfortable and the pillows the best! We had 2 nights that were simply so relaxing . . . when in the room, on the rooftop bar, walking the market across the street and having an absolutely fantastic dinner in their Grill 225 downstairs. That was a meal to remember! This is one of the best places we've ever stayed and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to be close to all of Charleston's attractions.

This hotel primarily uses third party sites to book their rooms. The advantages to the Hotel are numerous as we discovered. The client can not ask for late check out, early check in or alter the stay in anyway through the front desk, all calls must go through the booking site which disallows for direct phone calls - taking you through a convoluted call system. We wanted to cancel days off our stay when we realized how much we overpaid but there was no actual person to talk to as the people at the front desk just redirect you to the booking site. Front desk staff were friendly although often on their cell phones when we walked passed. We were told because of covid our room could only be cleaned once during our stay. This was confusing as there seemed to be ample help elsewhere working side by side. The room was adequate in size and the linens/towels were good quality. The bathroom shower did not drain so that we were always standing in ankle deep water. The hotel in general appeared clean and is in a great location for activities in Charleston. Another major disappointment was the rooftop pool. Great concept, poor execution. The pool is surrounded by diners as restaurant seating surrounds the majority of the pool. In the 5 days we were there (gorgeous weather) we never once saw a person utilize the lounge chairs or pool. This is most likely because (as we found when we tried to lounge) you have no actual place to relax or find space, the music is turned up for diners and they are seated right behind loungers. If you were to take a plunge all eyes would turn to the activity (you) since a swimmer is front and center. The hotel offered coffee in the morning and muffins etc. on every floor. They also kept whole fruit out. Again we felt for the cost there should have been a made to order breakfast or something more substantial. Bar prices - I ordered a 9 oz pour (they measure 6 or 9 oz exactly) of a what turned out to be a low quality wine. That pour was $26. with tip. In summary, The hotel rates/prices are that of a luxury property and to that end it falls substantially short.

My recent stay in February at Market Pavilion Hotel far exceeded my expectations. I have travelled and stayed in Charleston dozens of times, stayed at both budget friendly hotels as well as a few considered high end. As a solo traveler with a son in College at Charleston, I reserved a single room for Parents Weekend. I added a note during booking that IF a room was available with 2 beds I would appreciate the option (booking gave me a price which was either 1 queen bed or 2 queens requests made based on availability). When I arrived, I immediately was greeted by the valets and for the entire 4 days EVERY single employee went the extra mile to make my trip as perfect as possible. This hotel is absolutely my favorite stay over my twenty plus years visiting Charleston! The front desk staff made me feel as if I was royalty coming to check in. They knew my name before I got to the desk…I wish I could remember all of the amazing staff that went out of their way to help me—but Theresan (apologies if spelled wrong!) upon check in informed me that they did not have the 2 Q beds I hoped for (I wanted my son to be able to crash as well in the room when visiting), that they had read my comment request and upgraded me to a suite. I am one of those people that never gets upgraded and never expect it so I was stunned. Since they did not have 2 Q they moved me to the most beautiful suite overlooking the Market with a small balcony with an iron gate (similar to New Orleans) able to watch early and late from above. Most spectacular view, literally just high enough over the Market to drown out too much noise, while looking out over such a huge part of history. Again, the staff made this trip a 10 and I am so grateful for their generosity and kindness.

I am a returning guest and this hotel never fails to meet or exceed expectations. We always stay on the fourth floor for their concierge service. We did return from a walk early for their tea service mid day and nothing was set up, we then learned no breakfast would be served the next morning which is supposed to be part of the service. We then learned they forgot to give us a letter upon check in to explain the parlour would be closed for 24 hours but they then went out of the way to make it up to us as they could see we were disappointed (and frankly annoyed). We received a wonderful breakfast from the fining room served to us either in our room or the parlour and they included drinks, apoetizers and soup down in the bar late afternoon. They really went out of their way to make it right.
This place is beautiful and all services epitomizes the charm Charleston is known for.

+1
This hotel was recommended from someone who lived near Charleston. It is a wonderful hotel.
It is a smaller hotel, the main lobby on the first floor, 3 floors of rooms, and a roof top bar and a small pool. I believe there are 16 to 20 rooms are each floor so there are only 50 or 60 rooms.
The rooms are not huge but are very comfortable.
There are some very nice amenities. Each floor had several side tables in the hallways. One table had hot coffee and hot water for tea available all day. Each morning there was orange juice available next to the coffee/tea. On another table from 7 - 10 AM, there were croissants, chocolate chip croissants, various muffins and fresh fruit pastries. In the afternoon, there were chocolate chip and sugar cookies. There is fruit, oranges, apples, bananas, etc, available on the table 24/7.
The only draw back was the view from the room. The hotel is on a corner, and the rooms facing north and east had views of the streets. The rooms facing south looked onto the garage the hotel used for valet parking, and an adjacent building. So if you book a stay here, request a room facing north or east.
The only reason I did not rate the hotel a 5 was because of the view. If I had a north or east view, I would have rated the hotel a 5. If I still had the south view but was on the 3rd or 4th floor I may have rated the hotel a 5 also.
The room rate was very reasonable, considering what hotel rates are these days. The daily room rate with all taxes, was about $419/day.
