I will first say that as travelers we can be somewhat demanding. My husband and I both have major back problems and my husband has terrible chemical and scent allergies. Having said that, the staff here was absolutely wonderful. I always call ahead to make our list of requirements and the in house reservationist was kind and understanding. Everything was attended to from special bleach free towels to a fragrance and chemical free room cleaning. Our bed was a nice firm tempapedic mattress which was both supportive and comfortable. Our suite was smaller than promised on line but had nice furnishings and faced the internal courtyard so was very quiet. We were given access to the club level which I have to say was wonderful. We went up there each day at some point for a drink and a snack or breakfast and once even desserts and coffees. The servers were personable, the selections tasty and frequently refilled and the setting was nice. We did not have spa services but my husband and I both used the sauna which was great. The gym was adequate to our needs. We ate breakfast in the cafe one morning and had wonderful service, the Charleston Grill was over the top wonderful in every way from food and drinks to outstanding service. There were several issues during our stay: first there was no switch to activate a fan in our bathroom which frequently smelled like sewer as did outside our hallway. The satelite TV seemed to freeze up often and our room service breakfast was delivered 45 minutes late even though we ordered ahead the night before. They did have a full house, however this delay made us late for our plans that day. The person who delivered was very apologetic and offered a few free pastries to "sweeten" the sting of their tardy delivery but the damage was already done. Also, the pool area and hot tub was closed during the weekdays for "work" which was inconvenient since I like to soak in the hot tub for my back. Overall we found the staff to be super accommodating, the hotel clean, the location super for a historic district stay and convenient to the Battery, Rainbow Row, Ferry to Ft Sumter, etc. We were told that the hotel had been recently sold to a local businessman. It will be interesting to see what he does with the place as he makes the necessary upgrades to make this a true 5 star hotel. The staff there is already 5 star.

Dear malibuu1, Thank you so much for choosing Charleston Place. I'm delighted to hear that our team was able to personalize your stay and accommodate your needs. It is always our goal for our guests to feel as the hotel is their home away from home. I apologize for the issues that you experienced with Room Service as we did have a full house that day, as you noted, which caused a slight delay. Overall, I'm happy to learn that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed your experiences with our team. On behalf of everyone here, we hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Rui Reis Divisional Managing Director North and Central America, Caribbean

We stayed on the 7th floor as part of the club floor access. Would definitely recommend splurging for club floor access. The breakfast, finger food throughout the day, and drinks/bar was well worth it. Rooms were quiet and very nice. 2x service throughout the day consistently. At many other hotels during COVID we have had to call 3 or 4 times just to get new towels etc. Service from the bellman, to the front desk, the barkeeps on the club level, spa, and everyone we saw at restaurants was top notch. Great location within Charleston with King street access on one side and the famous Market on the other. Not the cheapest, but well worth it. Would return in a heartbeat. Charleston grill was one of our two best meals on our trip. Spa was great. If we had to nit-pick, the paint on the walls and the ceiling in the pool area is coming off. However it looks like they are planning to repair/repaint that soon.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful, housekeeping services above expectation. All staff from check-in to departure was greatly attentive. Club Level amenities were superb, with a wonderful staff that attended to every need. Even though our room was close to the elevators, there was no noise to disturb sleep.

There are many luxurious and historic properties in and around the area of Charleston spanned by King Street. It was difficult to select the ideal location. However, in the Charleston Place, we (mostly serendipitously) found something ideal for us!
As would be expected from a property acquired by the Belmond group, the experience is first rate from the get-go beginning with a stroll to our room with Jamie carting our bags. He was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable, about the property, our room and the Charleston area. It was a perfect introduction to the hotel and the area.
KIng Street is eclectic and varies according to one's position along it, and while we dined further north a couple of times, we did find that for our experience of Charleston history including a food tour, the area immediately surrounding the Charleston Place made access easier.
Staff were professional and courteous everywhere with special kudos to our morning room service team who became familiar friendly faces during our stay
If there is anything to point out that was not perfect, it might be that when building the indoor pool area, the effect of the humidity on the paint in that enclosed space was not well anticipated. It will be a substantial job to refinish that ceiling to match the lavishness of the rest of the property. That being said, the pool was a fabulous break from the humidity of a Low Country summer outside!
To be sure, a hotel of this caliber comes with a particular nightly rate expectation and there may be debates over how much more spectacular service has to be to warrant such a price. However, in this case, in my own opinion, for location, quality of room, warmth of service and attention to detail, this was well worth it.

Chose this hotel via our Founders Card membership. They had a great rate and incentive. Quick getaway with my wife to Charleston. Hotel is charming and the staff are all friendly and eager to accommodate. The hotel is old and has changed hands a few times but they are going through an active renovation to continue to deliver a great experience. There are minor things that maybe can't be helped in a building of that age like water pressure in the shower but its easily made up for in their service particularly housekeeping. We weren't nickle and dimed and were always provided fresh water daily plus a great turn down service at night. Plenty of towels (which may sound silly to point out but frequent travels can relate to the value of this). Our hvac unit was a bit noisy which effecte our sleep a bit but luckily we use a sound machine anyway. Location is spot on and better than many other hotels in the area and they have some great brands for shopping right inside of the hotel. While we may not be back to Charleston for some time we will definitely stay at this hotel again. Excited to see how their renovations come out over the next few years,.

We just stayed at the Belmond Charleston Place on the club level. The hotel is top notch in every way from the minute you arrive until you depart and everything in between. The staff is all very friendly and accommodating. All over the city they are lacking employees with some businesses closed but not at the Belmond…they are staffed up and ready to serve. The colors of the rooms are very soothing. The Club level has full breakfast, afternoon tea, and cocktails and appetizers in the evenings, it basically makes the hotel all inclusive so I highly recommend it. The location of the hotel is perfect for shopping on King street and for walking to most places you might want to go. Any time I go to Charleston, I will always be staying at this hotel and I highly recommend it to my clients also.

As I have visited Charleston almost every summer for many years, I finally was able to stay at the Charleston Place Aug 4-8 and was very pleased with my accommodations, the rooms are spacious, quiet and very clean, I had a wonderful view of King Street Everything is in walking distance to King St shopping, and all restaurants in the downtown area, I was able to visit the Clocktower Terrace as when looking at accomodations especially in the summer having pool and a outdoor pool/lounge area was important in my decision making, I will say that I feel that new lounge chairs need to be purchased for the exterior terrace as they are very uncomfortable hard plastic, no cushioning, and you feel like you are sliding off, doesn't make it very relaxing! I feelvthat Belmond should look at procuring some new patio/pool furniture in this area to enhance guest comfort especially being a "luxury property'. as there is so much potential. The staff were good out on the patio taking orders for drinks and food. This is a good propetty if you are looking to stay in Charleston for a few days.

We are used to staying in upscale hotels/resorts and this one has alway been a favorite. However, my personal feeling is they are still heavily leaning on the “covid” issues that don’t necessarily exist any longer. We are staying in a club level room (close to $1k/night) and after returning around 11:15pm from a comedy show, just simply wanted a snack. Could’ve been pizza, sandwich, crackers, chips, cookies…we weren’t picky! This hotel had no room service after 11pm, absolutely nothing in the mini bar…like they should just remove the mini bar b/c it takes
Up space and does nothing, no vending machines, no store in the lobby. I called the front desk and they could not as much as offer me a pack of crackers 🤦🏼‍♀️ Geezus…what are we paying for?!?

There are better, more accommodating hotels out there. At $1k/nt, just have some m&m’s and mixed nuts in a mini bar! I promise I’ll be happy to pay your up-charged price for these items! I literally don’t get it!

Our first trip to Charleston and it wont be the last! This town is absolutely stunning! Staying at the Charleston Place made it absolutely perfect. My husband had recent surgery on his shoulder so we were not quit sure of still taking this trip. SOOOO glad we did! We booked with the American Express fine hotels and resorts so we received a room credit and free breakfast every morning. There are 5 restaurants to choose from and all were great. However we were on the club level and the amazing dishes that were served several time every day were just to die for! Open bar, great staff and wonderful food...what more can you ask for. Every part of this hotel was beautiful and CLEAN. Service was 5 stars all the way from beginning to end. The Charleston grill which is in the hotel had live jazz but not so loud and overpowering you couldn't have a conversation. Great sports bar with an amazing view of the market. So many shops on property in one long weakened I didn't even get through them all! There "shopping" street in town is King street, this property has shops that wrap around and exit on King street which is FULL of every boutique imaginable! The staff was lovely and so accommodating finding dinner reservations last minute on a busy holiday weekend to booking tours. If your looking for beautiful, convent and southern charm look no further than the Charleston Place

If you stay at this property, you will be in a fantastic location. Do not expect the concierge to help you with arrangements. We provided a list of restaurants three weeks prior to arrival and were told that it would not be a problem getting into any of them. When we received out itinerary, there wasn't a single restaurant on our list. On our first night in the city, we went to the restaurant the hotel had arranged. The experience was so bad that we cancelled the remaining reservations for the next two nights. We asked for a prearranged private carriage tour for the first afternoon of our visit. The concierge did not make the reservation. We had a suite on the club level which could have been great, but the room was not up to standards. The doors to the balcony were broken and would not open. Some of the chairs were soiled and the overall room just felt tired and in need of an update. The Terrace Bar closes at 8:00 each night which is exactly when you want to be at this bar. I can't understand the rationale for the early closure. The best restaurant in the hotel was closed. We were not made aware of this and had to ask another gust if they knew what was going on with the restaurant. Its a shame because this property has every reason to be great. I hope the new ownership will pay attention to the details and make this the property it can be.

I didn't stay on the Club Level but I can't imagine it's wort the extra cost. The rooms are great, the pool/Spa area is outstanding and there are so many bars and restaurants nearby to explore, I wouldn't waste the time or money on the club level. Try the Peninsula Grill, (right across the street), and High Cotton for Brunch and Magnolia's for dinner. Enjoy your trip!
