I have stayed at Lands End twice in the last two years: once with my sister and once with my family, including 2 teenaged boys. We have also stayed in other holiday accommodation at Vic Bay. But Lands End is in a class of its own as far as I am concerned! Very gracious, Old Worlde furnishings and décor (with a touch of Bali), comfortable and scrupulously clean. Rod is an excellent host and his staff are extremely professional. It is simply a unique spot - the closest you can get to the sea. A surfers paradise and a rocky, "Indonesian" tea garden for picnics and braais when you want a change from your own front verandah (if you have one of the front rooms with verandah. Highly recommended.

Just back from another amazing stay at Lands End. Love the setting, proximity to the surf & easy access into George for work. Great Host, amazingly helpful staff & a wonderful tea garden & braai facilities hidden out back to relax in after a days work & a quick surf.

Location of this guesthouse is great. Good for family holiday in combination with surfing. Haven't stayed this close to the waves before. Nice quiet little bay, no shops around. The rooms allow for self catering which is nice but they don't serve any food which is a shame. Rooms slightly outdated too.

Let me firstly say how disappointed we where with our last stay at Lands End in Vicbay. Having stayed there several times before with a 2 week stint over December 2012. We where accustomed to the overpriced lodging where you have to pay to use the facilities like the braai area. Really! I’m sure the rate is based on location which in my mind is overprices considering that there are several equally beautiful options along the stretch. Now i know TV should be the last thing on your mind when holiday but to have a shared DSTV connection between all the apartments is laughable. Added to this if you want to watch something else you have to trek to the manages office and ask him to change the channel. Heaven help the person watching the climax to the movie in a neighboring room.

With our last stay we where greeted with the overpowering smell of incense burning in our apartment. Only once the smell subsided where we greeted with the smell of decaying animal. Please note with a simple opening of the cupboard door the staff would have found the offending critter (under the kitchen sink with the pots and pans) Pics attached. On further investigation we found several areas that can only be described as disgusting. The microwave had food left over from who knows when. The cupboards had rat fesus and the fridge was an eyesore. All this would have been forgiven... BUT the response of the owner/manager was disgraceful. We have two small children and after no amount of cleaning would my wife consider cooking a meal for the family in said kitchen. We asked to be moved which resulted in a response that left me speechless, no amount of negotiation or persuasion would change owner/managers mind or stance on client service. And i quote “we learn from these things get the staff to clean it, what do you want me to do burn the place down”

Lands End im out...

we love the spot. It's gorgeous and the room was very comfortable, though the electricity kept tripping if you put too many appliances on at the same time. We found the owner Rod, rude, unfriendly and unwelcoming. There are less beautiful houses next door with much better service. Try "The waves" for a happier experience.

For the cost of the accommodation, it was very much below par. This is no longer a guest house but a self catering entity. The location is literally on the sea and the views from the upper windows are simply stunning. The linen is extremely clean but the bathrooms and some of the kitchen equipment leave much to be desired. The owner did try to alleviate some of the problems, as an example, the white cobbles in the shower room were absolutely black and after she was shown just how dirty it was, she arranged for it to be scrubbed, it was restored to white. The carpets smelled and quite why it doesn't have easy to clean tiles is a mystery. The vegetable rack was totally rusty and the bathrooms are in desperate need of a makeover with the grouting black in places. There is a potentially lovely braai area in the back but it has been neglected and is full of mosquitoes. So much so that we hired it but had to eat in our rooms as the insects were too much to cope with. There is a lot of evidence of a lack of interest and for such an amazing location, it is very sad. I would certainly return to Victoria Bay but never to Land's End.
WiFi is advertised but it is R50 per hour. DSTV is advertised but it is just two channels and they cannot be changed. It is expensive to stay in this accommodation and this was just profiteering and bad business practice. No AC (35 degrees) and no fans!!
The two bedroom suite was dark and awful. The main bedroom was the width of the bed... small and claustrophobic.
The final insult was my grandchild left a new soft toy penguin that he bought when he saw the penguins and he left it behind. I telephoned the very next morning only to be told the owner Rod, had given it away. I asked that he call me back and to this day have heard nothing.
I do not live in dirt and do not expect to pay an exorbitant price to do so.

Have never seen so many "may not's in the room brochure .Felt like boarding school .Braai facilities at the back .but you have to pay R50 for the privilege of having a braai.
I have never experienced this and regard it as an insult .Certainly over rated as an establishment.

Perhaps it was the time of year and the self catering, but we have never felt less welcomed at a guesthouse. Not unwelcome, but not welcomed. Being there for the surf, which was perfect, that does not matter so much, but worth mentioning. We loved the house, it's history and decoration, the views and proximity to the water, etc fresh linens and instant coffees and teas were left for us as well as cleaning service each day. All in all a good stay but the countless rules posted everywhere are clearly for a different type of guest than we are accustomed to.

We stayed here before in a room called "The upper deck" which was an experience never to be forgotten. I booked again but made a huge mistake in not finding out more about the room. At arrival we were pointed to "Lombok" where we had to climb up very steep, stone steps to a room with an outside shower and no kitchen facilities. We were also offered the "Studio". This room has no seaview. You hear the sea so close but your front door opens onto a wall. Your window faces the bush. The rest we were told were fully booked. The words from the owner "you get what you pay for" floored me completely. A deep sadness sat inside me when I think of people who might be struggling financially and had to be confronted with these deeply hurting words. My husband asked advice about which other houses might be contacted in Vic Bay and the owner then offered us the "fully booked" honeymoon suite. We were grateful as we travelled far, it was my birthday and we were exhausted. The room was lovely, the view and location almost on the sea. It is breathtakingly beautiful and stunning and clean. We had a very special time and didn't mind at all paying in another R4000 to be able to stay in a room with a sea view. The whole experience left me with good and bad feelings. My tip...make sure you book a seafront room. Never book "Lombok" if you are not fit, half Tarzanish as this room should come with warnings or a cable car. Book either one of the 2 honeymoon suites or The upper deck. I might go back...one day maybe.

Thank you Ingrid, Your first line says it all, you made a huge mistake by booking the wrong facility. Next time try booking an economy class air ticket and demanding a business class air ticket on arrival. ??? Bizarre thing was, you have stayed in Upper Deck before and now you make this huge error by booking the Lombok Cabin at a third of the price and then start wondering. Your husband did apologise for you fortunately. Studio apartment has a garden view and many returning guests want this apartment due to birds and bush. The other sea front apartments are more expensive as they command stunning sea views, It is all about the price Ingrid, that is how the hospitality industry works. In future read, absorb carefully and decide before you go and transfer monies. Oh yes !!! and on SafariNow booking system ! each apartment has several pics and a clear description and a rate in accordance with the degree of luxury for all to read - believe 80% of guests actually read this very important editorial. We were very busy but still managed to find you a honeymoon suite [ we could upgrade close regulars of ours at our expense ] to enjoy your birthday with stunning sea views. TIP. Before you trash a place make quite sure " all your little ducks are in a row " We hope you got the flowers and the chocolates my wife left for your birthday and then come back for the extra free day we offered you - at the end of all this .......... WE DID NOTHING WRONG.

My husband and I recently spent two nights at Lands End Guest House which is situated in a scenic location on the beach front at at Victoria Bay. Unfortunately we booked the studio room which had no beach views. The room was spacious enough for two people however it was quite cold given there was a sparsity of heating and the weather had turned cold. The "double" bed was quite small which led to uncomfortable sleeping. Another oddity was the television channels are controlled centrally so no choice of programs. There were also a number of rules associated with staying at the guest house. On a positive note, the guest house is situated in an ideal location for surfers just choose your room wisely.

Thank you. We value your insight and the contents have been noted. In accommodation establishments you get what you pay for quite simply. A double bed is a double bed as advertised on our website, same size all over the world. We have many different kinds of rooms with many different bed sizes and views, a bit of a search would lead to serious empowerment. Television is not and has never been a big attraction for our past 82 000 guests. Studio has wall heaters and under floor heating should guests take a closer look. We are not really a surfer destination, more for guests from around the world ( over 72 countries to date ) for a complete seaside experience Lands End the closest accommodation to the sea in Africa.
