The Tradewinds was a pleasant little motel RIGHT on the beach. Our room was spacious and clean, although the fireplace was not working which we knew in advance. Our only complaint was that there was a VERY pungent air freshener plugged into the wall that instantly gave us a headache. As we were searching the internet for different lodging, we located the device and put it out on the balcony, after which we felt a lot better about things. Rockaway Beach itself lacked charm, I'm afraid. We only had a couple of restaurants to choose from, and they closed at 7:00. Maybe there's more happening in the Summer, but if you're looking for a place to get away from everything, bring your own food and stay at the Tradewinds (just don't cook fish in the room - they will charge you!!) The weather was a little cold and rainy, but we still loved the picnic tables and Adirondack chairs right outside the door. You definitely couldn't get much closer to the ocean - I think we could have thrown a rock into the water from our bed!…
Our overall favorite stay on an extended driving vacation! Room was clean, well appointed, and fantastic view just steps from the beach. Would like to see the handrail to the beach repaired for safety.
Although this was only my second visit to Rockaway Beach, and the first time I’ve ever stayed on the coast in Oregon, I have completely fallen in love with this place. I was initially looking at booking a three star hotel nearby, but the reviews were atrocious, so I luckily chose Tradewinds instead. I highly recommend Tradewinds for multiple reasons. It was super clean, very affordable, the bed was amazingly comfortable, and the private balcony with an ocean view was magical. We kept the sliding glass door open for hours to hear the waves crashing and smell the sea air (very mild scent, but I love it!). Of course it’s off season, so even though there were other people staying there, it was pretty quiet. Also, the man who checked us in (whose name I didn’t get, oops!) was very friendly and efficient. The full blue moon over the ocean the next morning (we were there on Halloween) was mesmerizing. The beach access on our side is made up of large stones forming a staircase, which was slightly difficult for my unbalanced self to maneuver on, but there is a rail to hold onto so that’s good. The one and only complaint I might have was that the in room fireplace was out of order. That was disappointing, but not enough to keep us from booking another stay in the future. Overall, it was an absolutely wonderful first stay on the coast. The first of many to come! …
I've traveled for business and pleasure for the past 30 years and this is the best hotel I've ever stayed at, at any price. The beach is like 10 yards off your balcony with unobstructed view of the ocean. The room is large, with a fully stocked kitchenette. It's also blocks away from great restaurants. The staff are strict on covid-19 requirements (in 2020) but otherwise very friendly and helpful.
We try a lot of motels along the coast. Some are just average but this place is a cut above. First, I checked ahead to see if we could get a first floor room to accommodate our 90 year old mother. I was told no, but I checked back closer to the date and talked directly with the host. He was able to work magic and get us a wonderful, very convenient room. He also worked hard to meet our needs during our stay. Thanks!! The room was quite large and I loved that it was ocean-front with a porch, picnic table and BBQ handy, with easy access to the beach. Don't need much more than that! It was well kept and comfortable. We had some family coming down and at the last minute we tried to find them a room. There wasn't one available but the host (did I mention he was very helpful??) kept an eye out and was able to get us an adjoining room when someone cancelled out. It made things almost perfect! Thanks again!! We definitely recommend the place and will come back.…
