I experienced a wonderful one-night stay at the Dossier Hotel recently in Portland recently. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was warmly greeted by the General Manager of the property Matthew Skelton and his friendly staff members (Mac and Liza?) who made me feel welcomed and right at home. It is very rare that you receive this type of welcome when you arrive at a hotel, and I think it goes a long way to influencing how you feel about your overall stay. I was also upgraded to a corner King room on a higher floor, which was nicely furnished in a classy but understated manner. Despite being in an excellent location a block or so from Pioneer Square, they was very little noise in the room and the views of the City were excellent. I would also comment that the area immediately surrounding the hotel for fairly clean and impacted by the homeless challenges I have seen in downtown Portland in the past. I also had the opportunity to visit the bar and was treated very well there while enjoying a local microbrew beer. I would not hesitate to stay at the Dossier Hotel again while in Portland and appreciate the effort that was made to ensure my stay was enjoyable.

Excellent and efficient service, king studio suite (single room no dividing door) was spacious and clean. 16th floor had tall floor to ceiling windows, but perfectly curtained to keep the room dark. One of the increasingly rare hotel rooms with a separate bath and walk-in shower.

Excellent stay

The front dest & valet were very friendly and helpful with directions and suggestions. The room was nice and clean, bed very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious with both shower and a full size tub with shelf space to unpack your toiletries. I felt safe and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

On the plus side this is a boutique hotel (ex Westin), in good condition. Room was good.. Staff are friendly and obliging. They also have (one) electric vehicle charging point, though charge $55 a night to park (necessary in the case of the hotel's location). On the negative side, the area in which the hotel is situated, despite being one block from Pioneer Square, is now very rundown and dirty, with lots of shops empty and many unfortunate homeless people sleeping in doorways. The bistro restaurant for the hotel is small and the food limited in both choice and quality. Our biggest issue was that they charged a "Resort Fee" of $30 per day. When challenged they say that this is actually an "Amenity Fee" covering a voucher for breakfast of $15 to eat in the Bistro, the "free" bottle of water for the room, WiFi and the use of the gym and pool (not sure there is one). They also have bicycles you can use. Considering that they did NOT service our room at all during our three day stay (!!) and we did not use the gym or pool, this is absolutely not justified and left us feeling "ripped off". They say that all the local hotels now make such a charge, so they do this as well! We stayed at the Westin Spa and Resort in Whistler BC just two weekends previously and there was no such charge. We are determined in future to avoid staying at any hotel that charges such an "extra" fee, it just leaves you with an overall negative feeling of the hotel. I accept that the hotel trade has suffered, but this is not the way to win customer's back. You want to leave wanting to come back!

Hi F5233VNIanm, We thank you for joining us and we're glad the hotel offered a comfortable retreat during your time in Portland. We do note your disappointment with the challenges facing some of our less fortunate residents and we're sorry to learn that the hotel did not offer the value you anticipated. We make every attempt to offer competitive rates to comparable hotels and we apologize once again that you were displeased. We wish you the very best in your future travels. We were a bit dubious about this hotel since it is near downtown. We've stayed at a hotel on the other side of the river and had a terrible experience so I was prepared to leave after 1 night.

We found the hotel to be really wonderful. Upon arrival we were met by a very friendly bell hop, checked in quickly and he took our bags to our room.

The room was very large (even considering we booked an upgraded room) and was spotlessly clean. We really appreciated that they furnished the room nicely without being over the top with unnecessary junk on every surface. The sofa and chairs were comfortable but the big hit of the room was the BED. This bed was soft on top but felt firm underneath. Both the wife and I slept great (which is rare). The linens are better than average and the pillows were also amazing. Truly a 1st class sleep... something that it seems almost every hotel seems to forget about.

The bathroom also was a wonderful experience... a rain shower head in a stand up shower (big enough for a 300 lb guy) is a nice way to wake up. There was also an oversized tub that we didn't use. Towels and amenities were similarly up scale.

Last but very much not least, the staff was consistently welcoming and helpful. The facilities seemed very very clean and new, overall the hotel felt very well maintained.

The only negative I can offer about the hotel is parking... they offer valet parking using an outside vendor and a parking lot a couple blocks away. It was expensive (even for Seattle) and sometimes it took 30 minutes to get my car. It was far from ideal but once I knew the process I would just call for my car a little bit earlier. Less than ideal but far from a big issue.

Overall we were really thrilled. We felt like we finally found a hotel to match the great restaurant scene.

Thank you so much Don and everyone of Dossier who curated an amazing hotel experience for my birthday trip to Portland. From the exciting check-in and the prompt professional valet late Friday night to a flawless check-out and delicious Sunday brunch at Alder, my party and I were absolutely SPOILED! The location of the Dossier is travel convenient and was perfectly epicentered around our planned activities. The room was clean, linens were plush and furniture was aesthetically pleasing with a magnificent view of downtown. We felt safe and were comfortable the entire time and appreciated the small kind courtesies, thoughtful amenities, complimentary cold beverages and fruit, and the sweet birthday card and chocolates. You're team really took care of us and I strongly believe we got the best of the best at the Dossier. I will definitely be recommending your fine establishment to anyone planning a trip to Portland. Thanks a million! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hotel is an elegant and refreshing oasis in the middle of the city. Room was immaculate, personnel exceedingly helpful, and the manager excellent! The in-house restaurant has a variety of options and quick service. One server took the time to find the hours of a store we wanted to visit. Thanks to him, we got there in time. The valet service is great even though parking is a bit pricey.

Great location, great views of downtown, valet parking makes it easy so you don’t have to find parking downtown.
The hotel has a great vibe to it.
The restaurant Bar Alder was so delicious and incredible. Small plates with each plate having a wonderful palate profile. The drinks were also well crafted. I had a pear cider and Brandy “hot toddy” and it was so warm and delicious.
Will definitely stay here again.

The hotel was clean, well managed, the room we were in was lovely, the mattress and pillows comfortable, it was easy to adjust the temperature, the bathroom spacious, plenty of hot water. We used the valet parking it was not cheap $60/ day it was worth the convenience for in and out privileges. We waiting less 15’ after I notified the attendant we needed the car. The location is ideal and neighborhood has plenty of shops and eateries. We did not try to the hotel restaurant but liked Cheryl’s on 12th. Great cinnamon bun and cheesy hash browns.

does all rooms has a Nespresso coffee machine?
Answer from Dossier Hotel
Portland, Oregon
Thank you everyone for helping. Only our Suites (the Loft Suites) have Nespresso machines in the room. We do not have coffee makers in rooms (there are SO many good coffee houses in Portland, its a crime to limit that experience!) But we do offer coffee each morning in our lobby from 5-10am by a local roaster Water Avenue as well as Smith Tea selection. This is part of the amenity fee experience. Thank you for your question! It is self service.

Good morning! Currently we do not participate in any loyalty program however, as Provenance is growing (now up to 14 hotels!) we are definitely working on such a program. More to come in the future but definitely join our mailing list when you stay for special follower-only offers! Jared, General manager.

Melloone is right in that we have an iron and board in the closet and we also have a dry cleaning service we can send clothes to though the hotel (generally in by 8am back same day by 5pm), so hopefully one of those two services will suffice for your stay! If not our front desk can help you find a reputable local spot.

What are the non-valet parking options please ? Thanks
Answer from Dossier Hotel
Portland, Oregon
Thank you for your question! On property the only option is valet (limited real estate downtown). While there are other parking options in town not too far from us I cannot personally recommend any because I cannot vouch for the safety of those locations for your vehicle; and I would never recommend a service I could not personally vouch for. But a quick google search will find some nearby lots. Just know that many of them are quite public and un-secured so please be careful. Or, check out our Valet Package on our website for a great inclusive value if you plan to have your car with you! Jared Dayton General Manager
