I was meeting my sister in Portland to travel to a family reunion, and booked an overnight stay at the Hampton - Pearl District because of its proximity to the train station. I was so glad I did! I arrived on the train and was able to easily walk to the hotel from Portland Union Station, about a 7-minute (0.5-mile) stroll. My sister was flying in, and it was a simple trip on the Red Line to the airport (although we needed a taxi to get back to the hotel because of the late hour, which ran approximately $60). Raphael at the front desk was very sweet; he checked me in and answered all my questions as I was meeting friends for dinner that evening. There is a rooftop patio for hotel guests, and my friends and I were able to enjoy a happy hour (BYOB and snacks) before heading out to the restaurant. The patio has lovely views of the Pearl District, and is very quiet and well-appointed with plenty of seating. Alona was lovely in checking us out the next morning; she stored our luggage so that we could have lunch with friends before heading to the train station, and even took photos of us in front of the vault that is built into the wall of the lobby. Our room was very nice: two queen-sized beds, plenty of room, and pretty street view. We slept quite comfortably! Breakfast the next morning was wonderful; it was a full hot breakfast, with eggs, sausages and make-your-own waffles in addition to the normal fare of cereals, yogurt, fruit, breads and pastries, and--of course--coffee and tea. Everything was delicious, and all the common areas of the hotel are open, airy and inviting. There's even a small art gallery area off to the side of the elevators. Security was ensured by the vigilant front-desk staff and by the elevators requiring our key cards to operate. But honestly, the neighborhood feels quite safe (for a major city downtown area), and we had no concerns. Our friends had to park on the street as the hotel does not have a parking lot, but neither had any difficulty finding a spot within a block of the hotel. The next time we return to Portland, we'll definitely return to the Hampton in the Pearl District!…
I booked the Hampton for one night's stay before embarking on a week-long road trip through Oregon. I noted in the reservation that this was a birthday trip so they upgraded my room and even offered me a complimentary beer upon check-in! The staff was very friendly and offered great restaurant recommendations nearby. The room was very clean with a comfy bed. The hotel also has a really nice terrace where you can BYOB, eat or just hang out and enjoy the weather. Luckily, there is also a small grocery store across the street that also has a coffee shop inside so we were able to pick up road trip snacks and drinks. The coffee was also a bit better than the coffee served during Hampton's free breakfast. After the road trip, we stayed at a more upscale hotel in Chinatown before making our way to Washington but I wish we would have picked the Hampton for that stay as well. Although Portland is struggling with a homeless problem right now, the Pearl District is a better area than Chinatown. Plus, the Hampton was cheaper and had so many dining options within walking distance. It also would have been nice to spend more time on the terrace.…
This is a nice mid-grade hotel. The bed was comfy. I had a top floor room, it was quiet and dark at night. Included full breakfast, I liked the grits offered at this location instead of oatmeal. Walking distance to the Roseland Theater, I felt comfortable walking back late night. Many restaurants and cafes within blocks. The valet parking attendant was prompt retrieving my car, even with no advance warning. Valet was paid through incidentals charge, no separate bill.
We recently visited with PNW for 9 days with two days at each end staying at Hampton Inn Pearl District. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a smile by Dan. He gave us all the check in information (and our “Diamond Level” goodies.) Our first impression of this hotel was fantastic after that brief encounter. Throughout the next two days with our coming and going, we were greeted by front desk staff and an also very friendly valet attendant. Our room was clean with view from 8th floor. We returned the next weekend- again greeted by Dan- who now seemed like an old friend we were coming home to. Intending to stay only one night, we decided to make it two nights. We received a complimentary upgrade that made our stay that much more pleasant. I had multiple chance encounters with the housekeeping staff, too. All were extremely professional and accommodating! I cannot say enough good things about this Hampton Inn but it was Dan that made it extra special for us!…
I was in Portland for 2 weeks on business. This was my first time visiting and it was a little daunting at first. The staff made my trip so much easier. They made sure I was safe, gave me suggestions and directions everywhere. Such genuinely nice people.
