The Surfrider Resort is nestled atop a bluff overlooking Fogarty Creek and the Pacific Ocean, located just two miles north of Depoe Bay, between Lincoln City and Newport. While at the Surfrider, visit Depoe Bay, the world's "Smallest Harbor" famous for whale watching or reserve a trip for deep sea fishing. Visit Newport for the outstanding Oregon Coast Aquarium, Ripley's Believe it or Not and the wax Museum. We are within a few miles of golfing, kayaking and waterfall hiking trails. There is no need to leave the Surfrider at all to simply watch the resident pod of whales play, eagles soar, seals nap, and the sun sets over the ocean from the comfort of your room or the restaurant and bar. The beach access takes you down to search for agates, make a beach fire and watch the waves crash into the unique rocky outcropping. We have banquet rooms that can hold up to 80 people and full catering available for weddings, birthdays and special events.

Can’t think of a better way to spend New Year’s than to be Oceanside and watch the waves and boats go by. There was a less crowded beach for the dogs to run below the hotel. Food and drinks at the restaurant/bar were excellent. Rooms are spacious and clean with a great fireplace.

We met up for one night with some long lost cousins just to visit & get reacquainted. They suggested the Surfrider as they had been here before in the summer and it was a good choice. The property is clearly an older one, but well maintained & pretty well renovated where it matters. What's extraordinary is the location, oceanside on a bluff with incredible views. It was raining a bit when we arrived, quite cool and the surf was high & pounding. The room was very nice, laminate floors, a comfortable bed, a wall heater but with a thermostat that worked and a nice gas fireplace that made everything very cozy. The bathroom had been partially redone with a marble like counter, and a tub with Jacuzzi jets (which we didn't use.) There was a microwave & a refrigerator, coffee maker & nice big TV with lots of channels. I saw an indoor pool outside in the parking lot (in a separate building and it looked clean but we didn't use that either.) We had a breakfast, lunch & dinner in their restaurant and all three meals were quite good. Their soups were home made & very nice (clam chowder & black bean.) Our table had both the macadamia nut encrusted halibut & baked salmon at dinner & both were excellent. The wait staff were very pleasant and efficient as were the front desk people. This is not a fancy hotel but the location, price, and convenience of a restaurant on site made it very convenient for 4 seniors. I'd love to return in better weather although it was beautiful in the rain.

We've been going here for many years. It's perfect for families, couples in the adults only building and those unwilling to pay exorbitant rates at exclusive resorts. The views from the balcony are perfect with a permanent pod of gray whales blowing 100+ yards off the balcony at times. Surfrider is all inclusive with a wonderful pool, hot tub and sauna. The on site restaurant with beautfiul views provides good quality and value. The rooms have been updated with comfortable beds and decor. We visit up and down the oregon coast but we stay here 25+ nights a year in retirement. Located 2 miles north from Depoe Bay it's located quietly off the highway. Helpful friendly staff completes the perfect beach getaway.

We’ve stayed at this property before and loved it. The view of the ocean is stunning and we love taking the family to the warm indoor pool. The rooms were always cozy with a private balcony, fireplace, and mini fridge. I saw online that they renovated the rooms, and the photos looked beautiful! We couldn’t wait to come and check it out. I’m not sure where they’re hiding these gorgeous new rooms, because we certainly do not have one. The room is more like a hospital room than a hotel - all white walls with no art hanging. Nice new laminate, but no rug. Broken pull out couch. Super strange layout. Bed off by itself with no tv in site. No counter space, no where to hang your towels, no closet at all. We went to the front desk a few times to ask about changing rooms. The first time the woman was very curt, the second time the man was clearly busy and said they were all booked now. Too bad they couldn’t have taken care of our request the first day we complained when the hotel wasn’t full for the weekend. This used to be our go to place on the coast, I guess we’ll have to look for a new one. So bummed. This was our family Christmas present to each other and now we’re all just so disappointed in our sterile cold room. Shuckaroo,

I am so sorry to hear that we failed to provide you with a stay that we want you to remember. We do have the rooms you are referring to from your past stays, where the bedroom is not in a suite with a separate living room. The room that was booked is unfortunately a standard queen and several have the extra space. We do have just a few rooms that the art is being replaced in as well to give some color to the new fresh white walls. Please call us direct in the future and give us a chance to create the reservation for the room type that you are looking for. We would love a chance to show you the we are the place you want to stay on the coast.

The images of the room shown are, of course, in their best state but they don't keep them like that. I checked in, went to my room and found urine on the toilet which they took care of right away but then I left for dinner and came back late so I didn't notice that there was a toothbrush wedged under the bed, some old food in the freezer, the dust on the baseboards was so thick it would have to be scraped off, and that the sink clogged up when the water ran more than 5 seconds until the next morning. I complained and they assured me that they would come to clean the room while I was out but I came back to the same dingy, gross room I left and it was too late to find an alternative and when I complained about that I got attitude from the front desk clerk who basically said he didn't care. To make matters worse the TV had no sound, and their idea of a "fitness center" consisted of 1 outdated and broken treadmill, one old and outdated broken elliptical, and a few weights and exercise balls. The fitness room is downstairs and feels more like a dungeon with filthy, stale, and moldy carpet. They also claim to be smoke-free but both the room next door and the room below had smokers which made it hard for my son as he has asthma and we both prefer not to choke, get high, or inhale second-hand smoke
I highly recommend that you look elsewhere when staying in or around Depot Bay, there are plenty of nice and clean hotels all along the coast. This hotel is taking up a beautiful location and ruining it with a pit of a hotel.

On behalf of our team, I apologize for any discomfort during your stay. We were happy to address any possible concerns as quickly as possible. The cleaner spray on the toilet should have been better dried and I understand how it might not look sanitary, however I do want to assure you the mist was from our spray bottles. The TV inputs and remotes are easy to confuse, causing the lack of sound, but our staff will always come fix that for you as well. The fitness center is scheduled to be updated and we have dealt with any training issues with staff to assure future stays are as positive as possible in every way. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us.

We recently spent two nights here to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. We wanted a suite with a private jacuzzi tub and ocean view. Happy to say there was availability on the dates we needed. They had one room left we were told that had the view and the hot tub.
The vibe here is great, we liked the location a lot and also the restaurant where we enjoyed a very good dinner and breakfast. Too bad about the CV-19 closures of the pool, big outdoor jacuzzi and fitness room. However, we could check out dvds to watch in our room which was enjoyable.
The best feature of this resort is an Oceanview that can’t be beat. Fogarty Creek Beach below us and Rabbit Rock are truly scenic.
As other reviewers mention what is lacking is that little bit of updating that could make a big difference in bringing the luxury it cries out for. Beds and chairs and appliances all work nicely. Time and age, unfortunately, shows the underlying wear and tear.
The floors are creaky, walks thin, so we soon realized we could hear all the other guests and they could hear us. We were assigned a basement unit so the footfall above us sounded like elephants stampeding and bowling pins being knocked over. Tvs and conversation and second hand smoke made their presence inside our space. We could put up with it but if a guest is uncomfortable with that, try to get an upper top unit. All views of the ocean happily are much the same!
While the ladies at the desk are absolutely charming and delightful, the housekeeping staff is rather obnoxious. This is to be expected at lower scale lodging but seemed inappropriate for a vacation resort on the beach. We were given very little extra leeway in exciting the room at checkout time. I’m handicapped and slower at getting stuff done quickly as I normally would. At any rate, their coming in the door every 15 minutes was irritating and I ended up leaving several personal items behind! We called a couple hours later to let the front desk know we left behind a small patio table and a phone charger battery. They said we could not go back into the room even though by days end it was not cleaned. We hope they will find them and retain them for us to go back and pick up.
Still had a great time, thinking we might go back again sometime. There is a lot more to enjoy there so I don’t want to make a big deal about a few things that could have made our anniversary stay better.

Hi Terry, thank you for your review. I was there at the desk when you checked out and I know there was a miscommunication with one of our staff members as to when you were leaving. We apologize for that. We'll definitely look into making sure your items are found and returned. We are gearing up for an update of this resort. It was supposed to happen this year, however, with COVID, it did not happen on schedule. We are taking comments about the resort very seriously and adding those to our overall plans. We thank you so much for staying and hope you'll visit us again in the future.

We booked multiple rooms here for our wedding in December. We had stayed here several times in the past and loved the private balconies, the view (watching whales from our rooms!), and the stairs from the hotel right down to the quiet beach below. We had never had problems before. However, this time left us disappointed. The stairs down to the beach are no longer there, and that alone is understandable due to erosion, but it was still very disappointing. The rooms were worse though. It looks like they’ve been renovating, but the improvements appear unfinished. The wood floors were a nice thought, but terribly scuffed to the point that they looked dirty, and very cold. (One room had a rug, but the others did not.) Also, if you’re going to repaint the rooms bright white, you should probably make an effort to wipe down the baseboards and walls. The dust and grime buildup everywhere looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and there were drips of rust-colored liquid on the walls in the sink area. When we turned on the jetted tub, we got a lot of grime and foamy soap scum coming out of the jets. One of our wedding guests disappointedly told me their coffee maker was filthy to the point where they didn’t want to try using it. When you’re bringing family to celebrate and show them a good time, it’s really embarrassing when the rooms don’t hold up to their former standards. I don’t think we will return.

Our visit started by being given a lower, dark room when I had expressively requested and was told I would be given an upper quiet room.
We paid extra for the whirlpool tub. I went into the bathroom and put my hand around the rim of the tub and a dirty film came onto my fingers!!! I pulled a towel off the towel rack and the rack fell away from the wall!!!!
The room was one king bed that was not bad but the outside seating area was also dirty!
Then we couldn't use the tv because someone had taken the remote. At least the front desk guy ( the only employee on the property) was able to get us another remote.
This is a pricey "resort" that is not a resort and all the amenities are closed,,,,, who knows for how long. We went to the hotel for breakfast ( not included) and my overpriced omelette was very ordinary; it came with greasy hashbrowns and the only choice of bread was the very worst, cheap white bread.
No one seems to care here because it is the crowded summer season and there are a lot of unwitting tourists that need a place to stay.
When you have a problem you are told to bring it up with the manager but after several attempts I have never heard back from any manager.

When we pulled in, we thought “ugh.” It’s old, run down, and not very inviting. We kept an open mind, checked in, got to our room, and another "ugh" swept over us. The room appeared mostly clean (except for stains on doors & baseboards, chipped paint in many places, & towel bar screws left on the wall with no towel bar, dirty heaters/fans, and a used/dried washcloth left on top of the shower curtain in one bathroom) . The towels and sheets were clean, and that mattered most to us. The beds were comfortable. One bathroom had orange/brown water coming out at first, but then ran clean. The attempt at remodeling was sad (painted hinges, hooks, etc.). The fireplace was nice and warm (but old & dirty), but the “tick tick tick” when on was loud & annoying. Once we went down to the beach (you have to go down on the steps to the left of the restaurant - the other steps fell we were told), we looked up & realized why they probably weren’t putting too much money into this old hotel – maybe this hotel just doesn’t have much time left? This is a bare-bones hotel amenities-wise – no complimentary breakfast, only one tv (with 3 remotes), no ice anywhere on the premises (we saw a broken ice machine in the parking lot), & not even a Kleenex box anywhere in the room. I’m still giving it 3 stars for the things that were clean, the spaciousness of the room, the friendliness of the people we encountered, the little window you can leave open to listen to the ocean, and the view & beach were great.

My husband and I have been coming to the Surfrider over the last couple of years. We bought coupons through "Rose City Deals". Visiting the Oregon Coast with friends is perfect here because the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The adjacent restaurant has a gorgeous view and delicious food at a comparable price. Depot Bay is just a couple miles down the road and Lincoln City and Cape Disappointment is an easy drive as well. The room is equipped with an extremely comfortable bed, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator, jetted tub and/or gas fireplace, dvd player (current dvds can been checked out for free), and a private balcony. A couple could also choose to have a room in the adult only complex. The service is exceptional and accommodating to many diverse needs. We will continue to return to the Surfrider every year, guaranteed.

Yes, we do have ADA rooms and our hotel, lobby, bar and restaurant are all wheelchair accessible.
Yes you can.
Yes, we are pet friendly.
I don't have pets.
I think they should allow pets because:
1. The doors open to the outside - not to a hallway.
2. The floors are all hardwood - not carpeting.
Tammy at the front desk was rude and a true Witch with a capital "B"!
There's no coffee in the lobby.
They want you to BUY coffee from the restaurant off of the lobby.
The Internet connection was TERRIBLE when I was there a few months ago.
The views are very nice but the front desk!!!
Treating me (a Diamond member) like I'm a bum off the street!
The BEST thing about this place is the Pacific Ocean.
Tammy does not care about "unselfish hospitality".
She cares about CONTROL! CONTROL! CONTROL!
