We tend to stay in older, historic hotels because they are usually centrally located. Despite needing a little tlc, the Island House was a near perfect experience. Lisa, behind the desk, saw to our every need and was spot on with recommendations. Close to everything any visitor would need, this charming hotel was a big part of an extremely pleasant getaway.

This is definitely an historic hotel. The rooms are very small. The staff that greeted us was friendly and helpful. We basically just needed a place to sleep for the night, so the small room didn't bother us and our room was clean. The shower was adequate, I don't remember breakfast being available.

This hotel is definitely tired and worn out! The lobby looks OK but when you get off the elevator, everything changes. The staff does not have uniforms so one doesn't know who they are! The hallways are painted a dirty yellow. Our room was overlooking the band area (which we didn't know about) so we had to put up with the music until midnight! Our bathtub did not drain so taking a shower with water over your ankles is not pleasant. The tile in the bathtub was worn and flaky, dead bugs were behind the door and the bathroom ceiling had sections that were falling down. My three daughters and I were going to stay for three nights but went downstairs the next morning and said "no way." It took my two daughters several trips to the lobby to even get paperwork, etc. It took almost five days to get our money back. We were not told that a continental breakfast was included but we went to McD's instead for breakfast. We had to really scramble to find a new place to stay for Saturday and Sunday. This was all before the Labor Day weekend. I will never ever stay there again.

Room Tip: If you are not into loud music on the weekends, pick a room that does not overlook the band area.

I don’t even know where to start. We came to Port Clinton for a weekend visit. After an 8 hour drive we checked in to the Island House to find: Crumbs on the floor Crumbs on the table, - looked like we interrupted someone snack time What looked like a LARGE PEE STAIN on the sheets!! Many items and fixtures coated with dust Dirty coffee maker and refrigerator Oh, and there was an entire bar of soap in the toilet…. On a positive note, the staff responded immediately with apologies and quick action from the front desk and cleaning staff and a discount on the room. We would have preferred a clean, comfortable room. When asked to switch our room, so we didn’t have to wait, we were told nothing was available?, even though other guests had not checked in for the night yet. this is the second time in 5 years we visited this place and had similar experience, we will not give it a third try.

Older place but enooyable. Nice rooms. Service good with friendly staff. No breakfast but it was available in an adjoining place and was fine. Good advice on where to eat from reception. Inlike these older quifky places. Free parking. I would stay again.
