We booked an "executive" room. The only executive things were tat it was large and had a trouser press. Supposed to be a "large" double bed and it was standard. The bathroom was clean enough but looking very tired. The food in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was very good and the overall service was fine.

We stayed for one night and had a great stay. Our room was spacious very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was delicious with a great choice on the menu. We left a set of keys behind and the lady at reception contacted us and very kindly returned them to us. We are very grateful for such kind caring hotel staff. We will return to the Walnut Tree in the future.

Enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch today at The Walnut Tree Hotel, North Petherton. The meal was superbly presented, with good service in the spotless surroundings. We will certainly be returning and recommend it to others.

The greeting could have been warmer. We were a little late (8pm ?) but had warned them. The room and the bathroom was large, clean but very dated as noted elsewhere. We did seem to have a lot of spiders. We cleared 2 off the bed but noted at least 4 more on the ceiling. I have no problem with spiders but many people do. Probably a one off but a bit disconcerting. Breakfast was disorganised. 2 youngsters trying to serve 16 tables of 2 or 4 (all taken) which had no table references. Kitchen then sent food and hot drinks out at random. Result was that hot breakfasts were taken to the wrong tables causing confusion especially when some people accepted food and drinks which did not match their order. So some got prompt service while others waited and complained. This is a management issue and unfair for the youngsters to get the flak. its not difficult to organise table numbers and to produce breakfasts in sequence in the kitchen The full english had very small portions. If you declined any element then no extra of any other element was added. Penny pinching I think. The hotel has massive potential but needs an update and better management. Were I in the area again I would probably stay elsewhere

After a disastrous start to what should have been a holiday at a hotel in Bideford, we'd decided to turn around an come home. Whilst travelling back, after 7pm I might add, we found this little gem called The Walnut Hotel. Situated just a mile or so off J24 of the M5, we were allowed to view the room thanks to Daniel, and chose to stay the night. The room was fresh and clean, unlike the hotel room we'd planned to stay at in Bideford. Daniel and Daisy were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were booked in to our room and able to sit down to a lovely meal in the restaurant downstairs,...all at short notice. After what had been a long, tiring and stressful day, we were able to have a nice hot shower and bath. A restful night's sleep was had on comfortable beds, followed by a nice hot full English breakfast, tea, toast. My wife had the vegetarian option, which was delicious. The breakfast staff very courteous and polite. We paid our compliments to the chef. The portion sizes of the evening meal and breakfast were more than adequate for even the most hungry traveller. We have decided to stay an extra night and explore the area a little more. If you're on a long journey, or wish to break up a long journey, or just want somewhere close to Taunton, don't hesitate to book into this little gem of a hotel, where you'll be assured of a warm welcome, friendly staff and bright, fresh/ clean rooms and good food,...the latter having won awards for culinary excellence the past few years running. Andy & Tracey, Notts.
