Booked as it had been on Four in a Bed, but think there has been a change of ownership, but so glad we did. Good location on a drive from Plymouth Ferry to Norfolk stop-over. Easy to find and convenient to get off and onto the main routes. (You can hear in the distance, the slight hum of traffic if your windows are open, but not at all if closed). From the moment we walked in we genuinely felt that every member of staff we encountered from then until we left after breakfast, really cared if we were having a good time, not left wanting for anything. Booked a table on arrival, thank goodness as the place gets VERY busy. Food was excellent, we had the steaks, and good value. Good choice of wines and all served very chilled. Good nights sleep, large tv for breakfast news when we woke. Great tea/coffee with your choice of types (ask in bar if you want more of any) and the fresh milk we had collected from the bar when we arrived in the thermos they provide. Small jar of biscuits, really they have thought of everything. Breakfast was great, all freshly cooked. I don't like smoked streaky bacon so went for poached eggs, cooked perfectly and clearly totally fresh. So location was good, accommodation and food excellent but what really sets this place apart is the staff, everyone of them was smiling, caring, attentive but not intrusive. We felt that they really took pride in working there, a credit to the Bowers Inn.…
Three of us ate at the Bower last night and I have to say, what a fantastic experience it was. From the time we entered the pub and was greeted by the young waitress, who was very professional. I knew this was going to be good. The new young manager at the pub, brings great energy, which rubs off on his team. We were also impressed by Katie, who was very engaging and made us all feel valued. I can’t leave the chefs out as the food was great, as was the Butcombe Original. Thanks for a great evening and see you soon 😁
The Bower is on the edge of Bridgwater in an unremarkable location but the people are what makes this pub . From the manager through all the waiting team all were welcoming , happy and helpful , which is something of a minor miracle from our recent experiences ! Great roast , great pudding and definitely we will return . Thankyou team Bower !
We went here for a friends wedding and had to stay two nights for the travel distance. its a beautiful place would recommend it but the biggest downside or me was the didn't do cereal in the morning and as I can't eat anything cooked in a morning it was just toast which wasn't good. But the staff were lovely and the wedding was fantastic thanks to the staff. Our room was amazing but if you are having a shower put the mat down as I slipped in the shower so the mat is a very good idea.
Nice room to eat in with plenty of space, the food was great, this was originally going to be a 4 star review but the staff and a surprise chees cake to end the night pushed it to nearly a 6. Look forward to another visit when we are in the area.
