The Mercure Bridgwater Hotel, has an enviable location in the centre of Bridgwater. The hotel is deeply routed within the locality, with much of the interior design reflecting the diverse history of Bridgwater though bedroom artwork and unique shower backdrops. The hotel has 119 bedrooms, most with floor to ceiling windows allowing for bright and airy rooms. In some rooms you can step out on to private balconies overlooking Bridgwater and Somerset. The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill is located on the ground floor. A light and open plan space creating a relaxed atmosphere, specialising in the very best in fresh seasonal produce served without fuss. The lounge offers a large and varied wine, champagne and cocktail list as well as a more informal food menu. And for those who overindulge we have a gym! Have just returned from a week at this hotel. Although it may not be everyone’s first choice, the hotel makes a great base from which to explore Somerset. It is clean and modern, with parking, but the best thing about it is the excellent restaurant and bar, with staff that cannot do enough for you. The restaurant is a Marco Pierre White, with good reliable dishes, a good wine list and excellent service. From a pleasant chat and cocktail with the lads at the Bar, to the friendly and attentive service of Kevin, Georgiana and their team in the restaurant, we couldn’t have been better looked after.

Recently Stayed here for a 4 night break with hubby. So the good points first.. It’s a nice modern/clean hotel, very central if you want to travel say into Devon like we did. Also walking distance to high street for restaurants/takeaways etc. Rooms are comfortable with tea/coffee & a fridge which is nice. Bathroom was a good size with a lovely waterfall shower. We didn’t really see much of the staff but the young lady on reception when we checked in/out was very pleasant. If you want your room cleaned you have to ask, if not you just leave your towels outside your door & collect clean ones from the reception area along with shower gel/shampoo etc, really good idea. If you come by car & park in the hotel car park its £10 per day. Right opposite the hotel is a car park which is free between 6pm & 9am so works out way cheaper. Be careful if your going to be there after 9am though as the wardens were really hot & in the car park at 8:55am ready to ticket anyone who hadn’t paid. My husband used pay on his phone if we were going to be later than 9, think it cost us about £4 for the week instead of £40 if we’d of parked in the hotel. Now the not so good.. We decided to have breakfast the first morning, I think it was £10 pp. Now considering how Covid safe they are with the cleaning of the rooms I was totally shocked to see the breakfast area was back to normal buffet style with everyone helping themselves to food. Most of the other guests wasn’t wearing masks so therefore breathing (or even coughing on the food). The pastries were all just sitting there not even covered, also the tables were way too close together. Whilst I do understand that we need to be getting back to some kind of normality & you don’t have to officially wear a mask or social distance anymore I really did feel very uncomfortable in this restaurant as did my husband. The only other thing was on entering our room there was a very strong damp smell. My husband said it was the drain on the shower & cleaned it out, after running water down it for some time it seemed ok. The following evening it was the same though. Also the shower tray is quite shallow & with the power of the shower soon filled up with water. Either a bad design or maybe just needs a good clean. All in all though we enjoyed our stay & would stay here agin.

Covid restrictions apply. Rooms are not cleaned daily however there are shampoo towels etc in reception need anything else ask the receptionest. Breakfast very enjoyable with a large selection. Server seats you and brings your tea/coffee to your table. Everything else is self service. Lovely & quiet overnight even though a road runs right past the hotel. This was our send stay & I will be returning again
