I booked an overnight stay at Holiday Inn as part of works function. On arrival, it was quite difficult to locate and use the road that takes you to the main entrance of the hotel. It is a little obscured especially at night so I would suggest some good lighting to make it more obvious. It's surprising because this has been a suggestion made on trip advisor that does not appear to have been taken.

There are a reasonable amount parking spaces, however not enough when a function is running. We struggled to find somewhere to park and had to drive round the car park twice before a space became available. I would advise turning up a little earlier for checking in should you be part of a function.

The setting of the hotel entrance is very pleasant with a very light and airy feel. The exterior is largely glass and the interior is very modern and clean. The receptionist was very welcoming and booked us in very quickly. She also let us know that as an member of IHG Rewards Club we had some welcome benefits including a late check out should we need it. I never prompted her about membership so I thought this was a welcome surprise. The only negative aspect were some booking errors. I was told two rooms were booked in my name (when I booked one). This resulted in a colleague not having room booked properly in his name which had I not have known him could have prevented him having a room.

I booked a double room which was modern and well presented. There was plenty of storage, space and normal amenities like tea, coffee, soap etc. It was a little disappointing to find some hair in the bed and a small stain on the sheets but it was clear they had been washed so maybe it was time to replace. The bathroom was also different with interior walls being made out of frosted glass. It took a short while to realise how to run a bath because you have to use the shower dial but it worked. The lights were great, plenty of mood options but to be honest we never were in the room enough to workout all the buttons on the wall.

The function I attended was organised by my employer and had planned ahead of time with around 100 people attending. Sadly, the organisation and management from holiday inn was very poor and this is one aspect that I would never consider using again. The function room bar did not open on time so we were forced to use the main bar. With a large amount of people arriving and only one member of staff serving, the poor bar lady was overwhelmed and had no visible signs of support from anyone. The meal itself was dis-orgnaised, on my table i waited at one point over 20 minutes for my food when everyone else was eating. We organised for three bottles of wine to be on each table and they were missing. The staff serving confirmed they had been forgotten but after a while this was addressed. The food on the most part was good with the exception of the pork. This appeared under cooked and kept my wife up through the night with a poorly belly. A colleagues wife also experienced similar problems after eating the pork which is a shame because although the food service was the worst I have seen, it was well presented. What made things worse was our employer setting up a drinks voucher so the company paid for four drinks per guest. The holiday inn in my view ruined what was supposed to be kind gesture by refusing to accept them stating we were going over £2K already paid in advance. I thought it was very poor customer service, of the type I have never seen before when we have used this system at other venues. It got made worse when the orgnaiser tried to discuss this matter with one of the staff members supporting our function. Although it was no fault of this staff member, she had no support of the manager who should have addressed the matter directly. Suffice to say, Holiday Inn did not want to honor the voucher scheme as intended with some people being turned away. This situation along with a disaster of a service, ruined the my whole evening. It was clear there was not enough leadership especially with the lack of staff available on the night.

The following morning, breakfast was very good. It was a buffet style with a large range of options such as typical fried food options. If you like something healthier, cereals, fruit and more were all available. The waitress was very pleasant, served tea and pointed us in the direction of other drinks should we have wanted them.

The check out process was just as smooth as our arrival. We did not have to pay directly because details were provided as part of booking process. This was a very good idea and sped up the process a lot.

All in all, the rooms etc were very pleasant and I would stay again but wouldn't rush. I would not recommend a function at all but this was on the most part due to poor management or direction not the staff themselves.

Good morning Thank you for your review with regards to your experience here at the hotel. I am pleased that you had a smooth check in and you were happy with your room that you were allocated. I am sorry to hear about your comments with regards to the function you attended. We apologise for the delay with the wine being issued to the table. We rectified this issue within a short time frame once the issue had been raised. The food service was a little slower than anticipated due to the table plan being changed and this therefore altered the state in which the food was served to the tables. I am sorry to hear that your wife was unwell in the evening; did you make a member of the team aware the next morning that she had been unwell? With regards to the bar tab and voucher system this was in place all night and the Food and Beverage Team were tallying this up and making a note of the amount reached throughout the evening. If you wish to discuss anything else, then please do not hesitate to contact the hotel directly. Many thanks Lucy

Six of us stayed here for a Saturday night. We went into the bar to watch some rugby and relax but there were no staff to serve us. Each time we wanted something we had to go and find someone. It’s not their fault as they were preparing for a function and the only available person was a 17 year old who couldn’t serve due to his age. The staff were great though, very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and nice and was reasonably priced at £80.00 for the night for two of us sharing. It gets the job done but get some help in when fully booked.

I was served by a young lady called Sacha, she was extremely polite and I had an allergy she was extremely helpful and new straight away what was what in my experience some staff don't have a clue but this young lady did. If anyone wants to visit this hotel in the future ask for Sacha, again very polite and helpful and works extremely hard. Other staff in here extremely rude and stand around doing nothing.

I arrived at the hotel from the town side, and drove up to what I thought was the front of the hotel. It looked closed/abandoned. I parked the car at the front and walked in to check I was in the right place.

I was. However, there is a better entrance further on, on the right. Where a larger car park is there, and a better looking frontage for the hotel.

Check in was ok, room was on the second floor. I used the lift once, but the noise of it and the jerking motion, made me use the stairs from there on in.

Room was ok, modern type with some small windows. I could see why someone may feel claustrophobic in the room.

Shower was good, bed was comfy and the tv good. There was mood lighting in the room that was a bit tricky to work.

Good nights sleep, no issues.

Breakfast was good the next day.
Decent ingredients, help yourself.
