Debbie. I'd want to mention her name. She is unquestionably a welcoming and helpful staff of the hotel. I want to give her my highest rating because she is such a valuable asset to this hotel and I had a fantastic day while being there.

Very much enjoyed a 2 night DBB with my extended family spread across 2 family & 2 executive rooms.
Process started with booking online (very easy), then a follow up call from Marita (reservations) to discuss room allocations.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Lauren (reception). She answered all my questions and handed over all the room cards.
Reception/bar/dining area all kitted out with festive décor and it looked very cosy.
Although none of our rooms had not yet been renovated I thought they were very clean and perfectly acceptable. Our family room was more like a suite, it was massive. Beds & pillows were very comfortable. Evening meal time was relaxing. A great choice from the menu. The waiting staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was great too. Again, the breakfast staff (two sisters and a Filipino lady) were really chatty and friendly. Not forgetting the chef behind the hot food section who again greeted everyone with a happy ‘Good morning’.
The pool is a great size with steam, sauna and jacuzzi all in the same area. The changing areas let the place down in my opinion as they are in need of a refurb. Again, health club staff very friendly. One review stated that access to the gym/pool is via a long walk around the outside of the hotel. This was due to the renovation works. However, internal access has now been restored. I also have to say that the ‘locals’ who are paid members of the health club are friendly too.
All in all I/we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for a second time due to our last experience. We have left a previous review mentioning how clean and tidy this hotel is with immaculately clean rooms and friendly staff and once again on this visit we experienced the same quality. From arrival we were had plenty of choice of parking spaces and were greeted by a happy and friendly reception team who checked us in with no issues. Offered us dinner slots and breakfast slots as hotel was busy. On arrival into the rooms we were happy to find once again a stunning clean fresh room with all bathroom essentials filled up ( all soap shampoo and conditioner in tubs so no need to bring your own) .

Breakfast times were booked with no issues and we were seated together as an extended family with a larger table arranged for us. Staff were chatty and friendly throughout all interaction and nothing appeared a problem for them when asked.

We had dinner at the bar one evening and despite a small issue with the order this was corrected and we enjoyed a lovely meal without us waiting too long.

Our stay was cut short due to a family bereavement meaning we had to check out a couple of days early.  When I advised receptionist of this she was not only sympathetic but advised me that she would look into a possible charge back for the nights we were not going to be staying. This was both unexpected and a very classy touch as this was not something that was expected nor something they as a hotel needed to do. We advised it wasn't necessary to do this but on returning home we found they had refunded the remaining nights and car parking to us for both our rooms which was as I said a very classy and lovely gesture from the hotel.

We would like to pass on our thanks to the teams running the bar and breakfast for your hard work to housekeeping for the standard of the rooms and a further thanks to the reception team both  for your help and assistance to us while we were there and the effort to ensure the refund was completed

This has to be the worst Holiday Inn in Britain

The rooms have been refurbished but the same pathetic shower curtains have returned, the TV’s are still not updated, the air con still doesn’t work properly (it’s winter so no matter how hot the room and how low you turn the temperature is still only blows warm air), the towel rails still don’t work and tonight’s stop has the air con unit stuck in with masking tape. Tonight I have blood on the pillow case, fortunately it’s mine from last night but it exposes that the bed hasn’t been changed! Room 51. All I can say is that unlike previous stays at least there isn’t a foot ripper of a bathroom tile, the toilet isn’t constantly flushing and the bathroom ceiling isn’t dripping, and the 1970’s wooden window shutters have been replaced by curtains.

The restaurant is a miss, go out. Never any specials on, menu not changed for well over a year, poo choice and the quality is poor. Value for money is not a phrase that is understood here. Service is slow and the staff just don’t care.

The bar is poorly stocked and service takes an age.

The staff are not at the races, slow check in and out and they can never answer any question you ask. They don’t care and no one does a good job. It’s not just the hotel rooms that needs refurbishing, the staff need changing too.

I stay here for work, there’s no way I’d spend my own money here, it’s desperate.

Responded 15 Jan 2020
Good afternoon Robster1977 Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.further to your stay with us this week. At the outset please allow me to apologise for any shortcomings you experienced during this stay, I am sorry that you have been disappointed. Whilst I will not attempt to respond to all of the issues you raise, there are a few I would like to advise upon. The air conditioning provided is that of either hot or cold, depending upon the seasons, it is not possible to individually control this within your room except with on or off. The towel rails are not electric they are purely a towel rail facility. I will investigate with regard to your comments re the air con unit in view to completing any necessary remedial works. I am sorry if the menu provided within the hotel is not to your satisfaction, this however was changed in October last year so is relatively new, with a different style and presentation and different from the previous menu provided. With regard to your observation regarding menu specials i will of course follow up and make investigations, we should have specials available across each day, again I am sorry if this has not been your experience. With regard to menu content and bar stock items, this is all controlled by our corporate office and with each hotel quite strongly tied with regard to items available to purchase. Finally it is disappointing that your experience of the hotel team is frankly so poor, we have many great staff who genuinely strive to deliver a great experience for our guests and truly make a difference, the hotels feedback from the many sites would support this to be so, and yes on occasion we have some team members who frankly do not care, they do not have the same service minded attitude, these I assure you are provided the necessary support to help them achieve the desired outcomes. Thank you once again for your feedback, it I assure you is most appreciated, and please be assured shared with any relevant teams. I am also pleased to learn of the few issues that have been thankfully addressed with this refurbishment programme. Yours sincerely Ian

This hotel is as expected as with all Holiday Inn, in the respect, you know exactly what you will get, with great service, as always.
The location is ideally situated for visiting local attractions, with the most popular being Harry Potter World.
The hotel offers parking, large open spaces, a bar and restaurant area, along with indoor spa & pool facilities.
Lobby, Bar & Restaurant areas are bright, & fresh, with the restaurant area, spacious, over looking a pretty woodland area, with floor to ceiling windows. We actually saw Muntjac grazing!
Common areas outside of the main entrance are less bright, and some areas are in need of some attention.
Our Executive suite was good, nice & spacious, light and bright & comfortable.
Staff are welcoming & friendly.
The restaurant was busy on the evening of our visit, so service was a bit stretched, plus the quality of food is not that good, but you can happily get an OK meal, at a reasonable price; giving choice on several different offers. EG, Starters, Main & Desert with wine for two = £50 with supplements on certain dishes.
Overall a good short stay, however I would look for more luxury if I was staying longer than a couple of nights.

A sad tale of the heart ripped out of a delightful hotel and hiding excuses about Covid. This used to be my go to hotel when frequently visiting Hemel, it was vibrant, the team couldnt do enough, the food held its own and the service meant a trip into town wasnt required.
Oh how this has changed; the atmosphere is toxic and at times bordering shameful. Dinner where the customer is told that all three courses must be delivered at the same time (Covid regulations see), wine ordered and the wrong, much cheaper bottle produced and not disclosed. One of the businessmen I saw this happen to was a wine expert and noticed the wine he ordered off the list at a price was replaced by a wine that was available from the supermarket at a third of the cost - it wasnt mentioned when it was produced either. I saw and witnessed this at first hand and asked the gentleman for confirmation of what I had heard. All things that couldnt be done were blamed on Covid. I suggest that they go for a trip to say, Premier Inn Hub in Westminster or PI in Leek (or read my reviews of them), the Ibis or the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham to see how lockdown rules can be applied sensibly and safely, not cravenly hide behind 'covid rules see'. The hotel atmosphere as I mentioned, once vibrant and friendly was cold and distant; I cannot see for the life of me what has changed. To be fair and balance, breakfast wasnt bad and showed what could be achieved but by then, the damage was done. I wont be back, the competition is too great and the quality gap too far but I would love to know what and why. Please dont be condescending with the usual 'not met our standards', there were no standards that night and even the reception process took an inordinate amount of time, down to covid of course.

We stayed for one night on a National Holidays trip we were a group of three adults and three children. On arrival the reception staff were very helpful as my grandson has allergies they contacted the chef to arrange his meal and my own as I'm vegetarian. The room was great plenty of room, clean and comfortable. The children especially loved the hotel my friends grandchildren loved it they said they felt like princesses!

The good bits. Clean comfortable room and nice pool.
Bad bits. Over priced breakfast at £17. No veggie sausages unless you ask and wait. Dinner was a buffet only option which was pretty awful. The carvery consisted of meat and again no veggie or vegan option. Frozen roast spuds that were still hard unside and a bowl of brocolli and carrots. Nice salad bar. We were told the breakfast and buffet was free for kids if adult is eating and a drink was included but not kids drinks. Was asked what drink I wanted so asked for a pinot wine and only found out at the end of the holiday that pinot wasn't included in the offer only house wine but was never told this at the time. I was also charged for my childs breakfast and dinners despite telling them he was 12 at check in. I saw this on my card and asked for my room charges and found a total of £90 worth of charges including drinks I never had and had to wait for them to be refunded as they had already charged my card before checking out. So be warned to check what is included and check your bill at the end. The hotel is very busy with families and very noisy not a relaxing hotel and at £125 a night was not good value I would say a travelodge at £45 was more like what they are offering but with very high food prices and poor quality.

Wonderful hotel, room was clean and spotless. We stayed 2 nights, had dinner both nights in restaurant and it was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent.
Found the staff to be pleasant and helpful.
Leisure centre was clean. Kids enjoyed the pool.
This is a really well run hotel perfect for staying if you're visiting Harry potter as it's only a 10 minute drive away. Would have no hesitation in returning

I stayed at this holiday inn for a business trip and dined for dinner on one night with a group of colleagues. We had to pre-order our choices from a very limited set menu.. On arriving, our table was not ready for the group which was odd as there were three staff wandering around the restaurant (and only a couple of tables seated for dinner… not busy!). All dinner tables had sugar bowls, no sign of salt/pepper or sauces/vinegar. The service was terrible and the food appalling! Starters (halloumi fries, tomato soup and salads) all tasteless… main courses worse (fish & chips, Caesar salads and gammon & egg)… believe it or not, desserts were even disappointing. Selection of the cheapest possible ice cream or disgustingly sweet sticky toffee pudding.. all sent back to the kitchen. At no point, did waitresses or supervisor/manager ask was everything ok? It seemed to be acceptable that almost full plates were being cleared? My advice would be to order a deliveroo to the hotel, don’t waste your money on dinner here!!

Hi Deb We provide an all day menu up in our lobby through until 22;45 we then offer a limited 24 hour menu We do not have a traditional restaurant as we operate an Open Lobby in which we serve the aforementioned menu. Should you wish to take dinner in your room this is not an issue however there will be a small tray charge for this. Hope this helps Thank you
