Travellers' Choice
Lime Wood, a boutique country house hotel in England, is set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, 1.5 miles from the small town of Lyndhurst and just an hour and a half drive from London. We like to think of ourselves as a luxury country house hotel with a difference. We've used Lime Wood's classical structure as the basis of our design but we've lovingly renovated it with a fresh approach, reviving its architecture and grounds. We've kept the spirit of its past, taken inspiration from its extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and added the odd contemporary twist to bring it to life. The food is by Luke Holder and Angela Hartnett. With its proximity to London, our New Forest boutique hotel really is the ultimate countryside getaway; perfect for weekend breaks, a dash from the city, or an escape from home; whatever your motivations, we can't wait to show you around. Please note dogs are welcome in our outside bedrooms and ground but not in the main hotel.

Herb house spa was excellent with stunning forest views. Main pool area could do with a bit of updating and modernising. The sauna and steam areas were amazing, and massages were top quality!! 5 star spa.

Had an amazing time and we all left feeling relaxed and happy. Beautiful grounds and interiors; wonderful spa; delicious food and cocktails. It is expensive, yes, but it is very special and you are so well looked after. The team were so friendly and really made an effort to respond to you personally and yet were efficient and professional at all times. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We came for a weekend break without the kids but with our dog in tow. The staff are amazing and, without exception, are friendly and helpful. We dined there both nights and overall the food was amazing so big ticks all round. Limewood is though pretty pricey and so you would expect it to be utterly faultless. A few minor gripes/ suggestions for improvement - we stayed in one of forest suites which was great but the 'secluded forest view' actually backed on to the work area of the hotel and we had a cushion store right outside our bathroom window which staff would access from first thing in the morning - quite a shock when you stumble into the bathroom first thing in the morning to see someone right outside the window - A a first timer, there is no real way to orientate yourself ... the reception team didn't explain where everything is on our walk to the room and there is no information in the room itself. As a result, you have to ask about everything and even then I feel like we may well have missed out on all that Limewood has to offer. The same was true at Herb House where no-one really explains all the facilities you can make use of or which you cannot - this point is particularly useful for anyone with a dog. Where can we / can't we take the dog? We ended up being over cautious and left him in the room more than we were comfortable with whereas he probably could have come outside with us if we ate there - Our room (in the Crescent) was VERY hot. There is no aircon and only a fan in the room which we couldn't have on as was driving the dog potty. We had to leave all the windows open but this led to a pretty disrupted night's sleep due to noise from the aforementioned work area Overall, we really enjoyed our stay but left feeling maybe we missed out on the full Limewood experience and, given the price level, this is the reason we haven't given 5*
