Nestled in the vast Hampshire countryside, the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire garners praise for its family-friendly activities, opulent spa, and fine dining, despite some remarks about its price. The hotel's immaculate condition and elegant decor contribute to a luxurious atmosphere that many guests relish. While the spacious rooms offer comfort and style, a few guests note noise issues. Exceptional service is often celebrated, though it can be inconsistent. While the cost is a concern for some, others find the value aligns with the special experiences offered.

The hotel is a stunning property immersed in beautiful English countryside. The property is generally well kept-some minor details could look tired.

Usual top standard service by Four Seasons, with an amazing staff across the various services.

On the negative side, the restaurant offering could be improved, in particular at this prices. For example the breakfast "avocado on toast", was not fresh avocando, but seemed an avocado-based paste with loads of garlic!

One note, the hotel is very children oriented.

Would definitely stay again.

We went for 3 nights, Thursday - Saturday. The difference is marked. The hotel restaurant is the main problem with the hotel... As a family hotel there is nowhere quiet to eat breakfast or dinner. On Friday night for an 8pm reservation, there was a children's party going on. This is fine, but with wooden floors the acoustics are problematic. Similarly at breakfast on Saturday/Sunday, it did not feel like a country hotel, more a family resort. For me, I would expect there to be more than one restaurant or dining experience. Perhaps if the Bar area had a few tables that could be used for dining - or the 'lounge' at the front... The pool is to be avoided if you want to relax. Afternoon tea was in a great room but the tea (food) was very average.
The staff were lovely, and the service excellent, amongst the best I have come across. The room was great, we had a suite which had the country house hotel luxury feel that we wanted.
Would we go back? Probably, but would avoid dinner. For over £2000 for a weekend break I hesitate to recommend it to foodies or as an escape.

This is our 5th time here and again it was an exquisite stay (as always is). Consistent in delivering the most spectacular experience which showed.

Every single member of the great hotel team went out of their way to make our 3 night stay the best, not a single fault, anywhere. We were treated like royalty and my family were upset on the morning of departure that we decided to stay another night! This is testament to how good everything was.

The hotel – grand as always. Roaring fires, lovely grand rooms to relax in, super service everywhere.
Dining experience – out of this world, really brilliant food and service. Food ingredients were fresh and of very high quality with a great Masterchef and winning team with him. We really were made to feel so welcome.
Room – Clean, spacious and very comfortable
Spa – Everyone here too went out of their way to make the guest’s experience the ultimate. I saw spa staff scrubbing shower floors every 30 minutes or so, the spa changing rooms were immaculate with warm heated floors, elegance and fluffy towels and flip flops to use. The facilities were immaculate and clean
Our stay was finished with the icing on the cake by a superb afternoon tea in the library
A huge thank you to ALL the staff especially: Gulumser for a great afternoon tea, Nenad, Carsten, Hayes at Concierge , Yassine, Amol and Yeil in Dining. A special thanks to the great Housekeeping team and Room Service too. You ALL are awesome and we really appreciate being looked after so well, thank you so much!

The boys and Mrs Mander are forever so grateful and we look forward to future visits!

If anyone is worried about Covid, please don’t. This hotel is very well prepared and clean and sanitisers everywhere and everyone is respecting each other to be safe. All hotel members wear masks.

Mr Mander and family, stay 6th Jan 2022 – 3 nights

Just returned from a weekend at FS Hampshire. I love the FS and so I wanted to love FS Hampshire but there are some big gaps in the offering. If they are not sorted I think the hotel will struggle.
Hotel is looking scruffy on the bedroom floors. All paintwork looks very scuffed in the corridors and carpets very marked. Main areas, reception, lounges, restaurant all looked up together and pretty crisp.
Spa was lovely, pretty much everything you could need so just take your swimsuit. I had a good massage and therapist listened to what I wanted which was refreshing. Pool areas very nice.
Staff were great, particularly Danny on reception and the two guys on cocktail duty in the bar on Sunday night. The car valets were very helpful and overall the staff were very Four Seasons.
So far so good.....until we get to the food.
It fell very very short of what you would expect in a 5 star hotel, especially one in the English Countryside! Room service Cesar Salad and Guacamole with Chips - poor. Chicken with the salad tasteless. Guacamole was like a purée, absolutely no way was it freshly made.
Breakfast. Where do I start? £30 for the English breakfast but no choice of egg. No fresh toast put on the table. Ordered breakfast tea. Chipped mug and a teapot put on the table. No milk or sugar. £5 for a coffee. No refill offered. 2nd day I ordered eggs florentine. Hollandaise was congealed on top. Everything looked and felt like it had been made at 7am and left under a heat lamp for 3 hours!

Communication:
While concierge was excellent (Carla and Mattia), after arranging the bookings (everything has to be pre-booked due to COVID), I then received an automated e-mail asking me at what time I was expecting to arrive – as I was booked in for lunch, the answer should have been obvious. No personal touch.
Clenliness:
Lacking - Fingerprints on brass and mirrored surfaces, hair in the changing rooms in the pool, carpet in the library where they serve afternoon tea was dirty, the tables were not cleared quickly enough. The room had dust on the chandelier, the curtains were dirty and frayed.

The room:
Dated, old, and with lack of forethought, for example – no plug near a mirror to enable the use the hairdryer, other than reaching across the hall and drying one’s hair at the tea and coffee/bar area, which is utterly unhygienic. The “tapestries” behind the bed gave an impression of lack of care and lack of cleanliness.
View of the courtyard from the window was appalling, with old chairs and just a mess of the site in general.
Turndown never materialised.

The restaurant:
The bar – we had a couple of burgers for lunch, in the bar area, which was quite noisy. The burger was good, but the fries were clearly frozen and quite pale and sad. For over 25 pounds for a Burger, I expect better. The chairs were too low for the table and made eating a rather uncomfortable business.
Dinner – the atmosphere reminded me of a canteen with dated 1980’s décor. There were far too many tables in an open environment, very loud music and in general, very loud atmosphere. The food was utterly substandard. We both had the crab pasta, extraordinarily salty and no sight of the crab. The bread was a sad affair, four slices of warm and rather limp wholegrain baguette in a paper bag with a plastic window which obviously showcased the condensation. The table setting was appalling too. The matts were placed on the table and a couple of paper napkins added to it, with no finesse. When I spend over 140 for dinner, I expect much much better. Desert was edible, which is the best I can say for it.

The pool:
We were advised we would receive robes and there would be an attendant, there was no one. The changing rooms were not clean. Aside from hand prints on the mirrors, there was hair from a previous guest. My friend found the same hair the day after. This was unacceptable.
While I appreciate the need to curtail guests in the pool and give them one hour slots, at 10 to the hour, the staff started staring at us and looking at the clock, which did not exactly encourage the relaxation I was hoping for.
In the outside spa area, on the side there were very large rolls of green material which I did not want to see and made everything look rather untidy, alongside the weeds in the paths. These are not major concerns if this was not a 5 star hotel with associated charges.

It was a relaxing weekend, nor can I say I felt refreshed and pampered. I was just glad to leave.

What a different a year makes. I must say, in the last year the Hotel has undergone quite a turnaround. The refurbishment is very successful with clean-lined, airy rooms which maintain a touch of the period, without being tired. The halls are truly well appointed with a particularly unique and attention grabbing wall paper. They read as classic and fresh. Supreme cleanliness reigns across the hotel as well and the grounds, which are well maintained.

The bar food was very good with a truly exceptional chicken burger. The finger sandwiches in the Library were out of this world, made all the better by the lovely room. I think it is the best room of the hotel.
Dinner was very good too, but the honourable mention and dish of the stay was the tuna starter. Simply sublime.

The staff in general could not do enough for us. From the restaurant to the Library, friendly and attentive.

We were particularly floored that Cecilia (breakfast) recognised us from a trip to The Torridon in June, where she was employed. I remember her as one of the nicest and friendliest staff members there and I must say, The Four Seasons made a great hire! Incredible odds aside, how to make a guest feel special by remembering them from across the country across many months!

A particular mention also to Daniele, the duty manager, who takes customer service to the care and attention most would do well to aspire to. Exemplary.

High standards. Well done! I look forward to my next trip. This stay redeemed the Hotel Chain in my eyes.

We stayed here last weekend in two large interconnecting rooms. It was a treat for ourselves and it was well worth the splurge (which it is indeed). Breakfast was not included in our rate and it's quite costly - approx £30 for the full buffet. We used the pool and spa pool (which is blissful), sauna, steam room, had spa treatments and did the treetop adventure course which was comparable to Go Ape, if not a little harder in places.

There is little to fault here and if I had to find fault with anything it would be a rather tasteless vegetable risotto from the kids' menu on one evening, but with pesto it was improved. All the staff seem to genuinely want to help and everyone was very chatty and friendly.

This was our second visit and we'd definitely go again. I'd also buy one of their beds if I could afford it, it was awesomely comfortable!

The staff team are polished and attentive at all times, whether housekeeping, reception or restaurant, at all levels the attitude is professional and diligent. The suite was spacious and relaxing, my only gripe being the inner courtyard view, which was essentially a gravel corner and giant manhole cover, not very attractive. Equally I must comment on a chaotic breakfast service, in which the restaurant essentially doesn’t get any one thing completely right. Everything is there, the room is spacious and well appointed, the staff on hand are plenty, but the detail just doesn’t stack up. The hot buffet is poorly presented, selections are dry and hardened under close proximity heat lamps, nothing looks or tastes fresh. An establishment of this level should be providing a table served fresh breakfast, not a buffet. The continental selection area is likewise underwhelming, with name signs falling all over the place, minuscule bowls (does a 5 star site really want to control my taking too many spoons of granola??) and simply a limited offering that I may expect at an average 4 star site in any minor town, anywhere. Final breakfast gripe….please teach the waiter team how to prepare and serve tea? Each of the three mornings, hit and miss, lukewarm, no milk until requested, ‘mug’ like cups, am I at a Little Chef?? The breakfast service manager did her utmost to try to improve our experience, which we sincerely appreciated, but her oversight is thinly spread and cannot prevent the several disappointments and issues that I’ve set out above. Final point…sort out your signage folks! Pretend you are a total stranger, jump into your car, drive down the road and turn around, then approach the hotel for the ‘first’ time. Doesn’t work well…the signage is a confusing 1st impression, from the end of the driveway (deliveries?? main entrance?? correct hotel?? Not sure, hey - let’s try asking the guy coming out in that minibus…) to the on site signage, needs binoculars and a bit of luck. Come on….get this sorted out professionally!

Positives first: the hotel itself is beautiful and set in gorgeous countryside. There are a few different walks you can do around the estate depending on your energy levels. The staff were all very polite and friendly, and the food in the restaurant was consistently good quality and there was a nice variety and choice on the menus.

Cons: The main issue is that there just aren’t enough staff, and there is zero organisation of the staff who are there. We came to expect long waits for everything, from being seated at meals (which we had pre-booked), to giving food and drinks orders, and waiting for them. Every time there was something missing too which became tedious and frustrating. At breakfast I had to ask four times for milk and sugar for my tea, only for the tea to be cold by the time they brought it out. Same with syrup for pancakes, cutlery, a drink refill etc. I totally understand the challenges on staff in these post lockdown times but when you’re paying £30+ for breakfast you expect management to have these things sorted, the hotel doesn’t have a problem continuing to charge guests high prices. We did feed this back after our first breakfast and to be fair they were very apologetic, but the problems continued to happen for the rest of our stay so nothing changed.

I’m 6 months pregnant and this was supposed to be a relaxing trip away for my husband and me before baby arrives. However all the little niggles added up to it not being very relaxing at all. You have to book your hour slot at the pool in advance, but it doesn’t seem people keep to their hour slot as sun beds are in short supply and although we kept to our hour limit it seems others don’t, and staff don’t seem to enforce it. Children were playing in the adult pool, even though there is a separate children’s pool and it’s supposed to be a 4 person max limit anyway.

The cocktail bar doubles up as a casual restaurant so when we came down for pre-dinner drinks in the evening we were seated next to screaming toddlers having their tea. It seems families are given preferential treatment. We noticed several occasions where other guests were given better tables, had their order taken more quickly, given “extras” that we weren’t. I see a reviewer below was given a “free upgrade” - our room was lovely but the view was mainly of a wall.. It’s not nice feeling like an inferior guest.

The spa is lovely but you definitely have to book really far ahead. We called up a week before our stay and despite apparently having 15 treatment rooms and the hotel not being full, every single slot was booked. Only after persistent checking for cancellations once there did I finally manage to get a slot for a pregnancy massage. It was very nice but was supposed to be a 60 minute treatment and only actually lasted 45 mins. It wasn’t cheap so definitely felt a bit robbed.

As mentioned above I can’t fault staff friendliness and the individuals themselves, every single one of them was polite. However for a hotel that bills itself as luxury and the high prices it charges, we expected much much better.

We enjoyed a three day stay at FS, Hampshire. We were there with our two teens, first impressions of the hotel were lovely. Checked in and upgraded to a garden room which was lovely, we had lunch in the Wild Carrot Bar whilst waiting for our two rooms, food and staff were lovely here and continued to be so in our three day stay, the only criticism I have is the unruly children who seemed to be let to their own devices in the bar and restaurants, particularly at breakfast. I don’t understand parents of today, my children are 15 and 13 and myself and my husband are only in our mid 40’s but we have never been allowed our kids to around a breakfast room or climb all over furniture in a restaurant, god forbid one of them got burnt by coffee or tea, and also I don’t like having someone else’s child staring at us whilst eating unacceptable and I absolutely blame the parents and not the kids. Not fair on other guests, we ended up moving ourselves at breakfast as the hostess put us next to an extremely noisy family and the parents looked totally uninterested in keeping their kids under any sort of control.

We had dinner at the Wild Carrot twice and both times absolutely loved the food. The waiting staff were amazing as was the somelier.

Rooms were fab and very comfortable. Not sure I would visit in half term again, just wish some parents took more of an interest in their kids and not themselves or their phones and please stop letting them run up and down the corridors too, just a suggestion but maybe an over 12’s rule in the restaurant after 8pm?.

Rant over, super hotel, super staff. Thanks for a great stay.
