Dale Hill Hotel has a lot more to offer than just two delightful golf courses as you will soon find out. It has all the first-class facilities that you would expect and a few more besides. With 50 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant with views out over the golf courses, an informal brasserie and bar including Sky tv, conference and banqueting facilities, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and air-conditioned gymnasium, it’s simply a great place to unwind.

Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club seems to hit the sweet spot for some guests with its serene atmosphere and stunning golf course views, particularly lauded for its spotless rooms and well-kept surroundings. However, opinions on value diverge, as some guests find the offerings reasonably priced with excellent dining options, while others feel the pinch, especially those not interested in golf. The service generally receives nods for being friendly and efficient, yet there are occasional mentions of disorganization. While the rooms are spacious with commendable vistas, a few travelers have called out for better maintenance and cleanliness.

The hotel caters very well for large and small groups of golfers and non golfers. The two courses look beautifully kept and there is a large car park adjacent to both. We didn’t use the restaurant in the evening but the orangery (bar with balcony) served a small but very good selection of main meals and snacks. After us asking reception we were given a disabled access room in exchange for ground floor room 102 next to the pool and leisure centre which had a noisy extractor fan attached to the outside wall next to one of the twin beds. The second room 103 was larger and quiet apart from noisy guests in the corridor passing the door late at night.
The hotel is a short drive from the Cherry Tree pub in the village which was pleasant but no real ale.
You do need a car to go anywhere as Ticehurst is a very small hamlet attached to the larger Flimwell village whose pub is across the main road a good 8 minute drive away.

We needed to escape for a short break and this didn't disappoint. Thomas welcomed us with his wide smile and gave us a large, spacious, quiet room overlooking the golf greens. The beds were comfortable, with masses of hanging space, a large, spotless bathroom with bath and shower, it couldn't be faulted. The restaurant for breakfast was delightful, plenty of choice, quiet and restful. Thank you, we will be back.

My husband and myself aren't golfers and would have been unlikely to book this hotel. A joint birthday gift voucher brought our attention to it.
We booked in April and decided to upgrade our room to executive
We arrived with no preconceptions, the girl on reception was welcoming, told us about the facilities available to us during our stay. We booked dinner for 8.30 & we were told they had two large groups so that was the earliest, as a rule we don't eat early so happy with that
The room was large , comp tea, coffee & milk, very comfortable bed with a view over the fairway, large ensuite bathroom w shower and bath, nice and clean.
We used the pool and sauna, the pool was a lovely temp and we had it to ourselves for 15 mins or so
After pre dinner drinks we made our way to the restaurant, it's large and bright so not an intimate experience but tables were set nicely & again our welcome was warm.
I had the most delicious goats cheese & beetroot salad followed by salmon which was beautifully presented.
Husband had the pork belly which he enjoyed. We'd ordered cheesecake but we were so full we almost cancelled it, it was lovely so glad we didn't.
Staff were attentive, friendly & professional.
A good choice of breakfast in the morning and served until 10am. Pastries, cereals, fruit , yoghurt and full english. We were greeted by the same girl as the previous evening, I think she may have been a manager, she was bright & welcoming, had a chat with us and offered tea or coffee, a pot of coffee was bought and a pot of tea, a real treat as often in hotels it's a hot drinks machine.
Check out is at eleven. There was some confusion at reception as to wether we had paid our upgrade at the time of booking but the system said we hadn't and with no bank record from us we decided that the system was probably correct. I would advise checking the exact cost of an upgrade, we were told £15 but didn't realize that was each. The exact amount in the end was printed on the bill as £40 , the receptionist didn't know why, we decided not to end our stay on a negative note over £10 so just paid it.
Altogether an enjoyable stay. Definitely somewhere that would appeal to groups, excellent for team building events and anyone who enjoys golf .

We booked 2 rooms for an overnight stay a few days before arriving. Booking was easy with quick responses by email from Tabitha.
We arrived in the dark, the hotel seemed quiet, check in was fine and we quickly found our rooms. The rooms were spacious, bedding and towels were fresh and clean. The general cleanliness wasn’t that great, stains on decorative pillows, mould on silicone in the shower and hairs in the bath from previous guests. We went to the orangery for some food, staff were pleasant, the food was great but the cleanliness let it down, crumbs on the floor and chairs and dead flies on the window sill.
We enjoyed a swim and sauna. The pool was a good temperature. The drinking water dispenser didn’t have any water in it and the clock wasn’t working - these little things make a difference.
Breakfast was delicious, the restaurant was the cleanest and best maintained of all rooms. The head waitress seemed a little irritated by the customers, rolling her eyes and puffing at requests.
The sanitary dispenser didn’t work in the main toilets, and no member of staff could open it or provide items, which caused us a bit of a stress - another little thing that would have made a difference.

I only stayed one night.

The room, a superior double, was extremely plain and lacked any notable interest, except for perhaps the golf course view. There was visible damage to the carpet that should have been addressed.

Other than that, the bed was comfortable, and both the room and bathroom were clean. The room was adequate but lacked any kind of wow factor—essentially unremarkable.

I chose not to use the pool or sauna, as their location was too far from my room. To get there, I would have had to walk through golf areas populated with club members. I would have liked to walk between the two areas in a dressing gown, but these were not provided, so I didn't use the facility.

Breakfast started at 7:30 on a Saturday, which was a bit late for my plans. I arrived on time, but no one greeted me, seated me, or offered tea or coffee. The continental spread was basic but adequate, and no hot food was available upon my arrival.

Eventually, a server arrived and offered tea or coffee to another couple, but since I had already seated myself, I was ignored. I made myself some toast and waited for the hot food to be put out. It arrived 15 minutes after breakfast started, and there were no eggs available initially; these followed 10 minutes later.

I was on a tight schedule and felt I had to rush to catch up. The food, when it eventually arrived, was well-cooked and tasty.

The Orangery Restaurant is located upstairs. To get there, you have to walk through an area where some golf members were already eating breakfast. Sadly, at least one of the members was loud and swearing, which was easily heard from the Orangery and spoiled the ambiance and overall experience.

I had previously tried to book a second night but found that the hotel was fully booked. In hindsight, I am relieved that I couldn’t stay for a second night.

I didn’t like the close interaction between regular golf club members and hotel guests. If you choose the hotel for golfing reasons, your experience might be different from mine. However, I would not return and would look for a place that focuses solely on being a hotel rather than catering to both club members and hotel guests.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience that should have been much better—or maybe I should take up golf!

There are shower and changing cubicles for those guests wanting to use the pool facility. We dont provide robes, never have done so. In terms of the breakfast service on Saturday morning, some items for the buffet are held back to ensure the freshest service possible for our guests. There were not many guests in the restaurant at 7.30am, this is normal as most guests enjoy a leisurely lie in on Saturday, so the eggs in particular were held back. The egg order could easily have been completed by a staff member and brought to you fresh from the kitchen but having sat yourself down at a table this vital first discussion and explanation did not happen and as you were already sat down the staff on duty assumed that you had been helped and were informed. Your experience is certainly not the normal experience which we very much pride ourselves on at breakfast, and as a team we will certainly be discussing your points at our weekly operations meeting. We do have a very active golf club with many members and hotel guests staying and playing on our two golf courses..... we are known as Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club so I think it is pretty clear what we are. My personal feeling is that this relationship with golf does provide a very nice atmosphere for all our guests but that does certainly not seem to be the case for you.... I can only but apologise for any bad language that you have heard by a member of the club. If you did ever want to take up the sport please get in touch as we have some great programs available for people looking to get into golf. Best Wishes Carl

My wife and I are both new to the game of golf, so booked a two-day tuition break at Dale Hill, with their resident professional, Chris Roberts. If you're in the same boat as us, and you really want to improve your game with a kind, patient and excellent coach, I can thoroughly recommend this break.

Chris was fantastic across both days. The first is very intensive, with five hours of coaching covering a number of areas including driving, irons, swing stance, chipping, putting, and even bunker work. We were meant to have a five-hole playing lesson on the Ian Woosnam Course, but due to heavy rain that was postponed until the second day. But in a way that really benefitted us, as we were able to put in more work on things like swing consistency and using the driver etc.

My wife and I both felt instant benefits from this. I'm topping the ball way less than I used to, and I feel I'm hitting it further as well. Chris is a great coach, who can very quickly identify areas of concern in your swing and set-up, and remedy them quickly. We'd work with him again in a heartbeat.

The next day, we finally did the five-hole playing lesson, and again he was great. Very hands-on, very encouraging, very articulate about what he wants us to do. I even managed to par the difficult 17th hole, and had a birdie chance which I narrowly missed. I feel like my game's come on in leaps and bounds.

And Chris wasn't the only wonderful member of staff we encountered. The bar staff/waiting staff in the Orangery and Wealden View Restaurant were wonderfully helpful. But we wanted to give a special shout-out to Darcy in the Club Shop, who was genuinely one of the kindest and most helpful people we have encountered on our travels. Bubbly and ebullient, she was tremendously generous with her time and expertise. She's just started a coaching course, we've learned, so hopefully we'll be learning with her as well in a few years!

As for the hotel itself, the tuition break package comes with a one-night stay in a Superior Room. We really liked the room -- it was large, spacious, and clean, with a lovely view of the 18th fairway on the Dale Hill Course (aka Old Course). Nice, comfortable bed as well, and a lovely, fast-filling bath.

If there are issues, they are slight. The TV in the room could be a lot bigger, and there could be more USB/charging points, and maybe even a Bluetooth speaker or radio. Some of the fixtures and fittings are looking a little worn, and could maybe do with a refresh and upgrade. But there was nothing that bothered us. We had a very peaceful, relaxing stay, and also really enjoyed the food (a dinner is also included in the package, as is lunch!) in the Wealden View Restaurant. And the breakfast buns that they offer are the size of your head.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed it, and are already planning to go back next year. When, hopefully, we might upgrade to the Intermediate Coaching package!

I have been coming to Dale Hill with the same group of friends for the last ten years or so. As usual the golf side of operations was absolutely first class. The courses are great and everyone in the pro shop is helpful and accommodating.

Sadly the same can not be said of the hotel and in particular the food. The decor and atmosphere is dated, the staff act like it’s an imposition when you arrive for dinner and the food is atrocious. When we first visited the food was superb, how they claim to be award winning now is beyond me. Virtually inedible steaks that you pay a supplement for. Undercooked bacon at breakfast was the final straw. I recommend people come for the golf and eat at the Bell a fabulous pub 3mins from the hotel.

The hotel policy is to not clean or restock your room, meaning you have to make your own bed and ask at reception for every new loo roll, towel and toiletry. Why? If one chooses to stay in a hotel I don’t want to have to do these things personally.

The TVs in the rooms are so tiny as to be virtually unwatchable and the funiture/decor hasn’t changed in ten years and is seriously tired and in need of updating.

In summary would highly recommend the golf courses but avoid staying and eating at the hotel if you can.

I am very sorry to hear this feedback. We have been working through a refurbishment program with main hotel rooms being completed 6 years ago, our annex rooms completed 4 years ago and the new orangery eating area opening in July 2021. So there is a program of investment ongoing. The food experience was not up to scratch on this occasion, but you have had many positive experiences in the past so I am hopeful that you will give us another chance to impress in the future. Best wishes Carl Rundgren General Manager

Although the price range for rooms and associated facilities would be as expected from a country hotel, which prides itself on its golfing service, the overall aspect of that establishment is tired, with multiple areas requiring maintenance / renovation, as detailed below :

1. Broken hinges of shower door in bathroom
2. Black mould showing around the base and double doors of shower cubicle
3. Threadbare quilt cover with large tear at top of item
4. Tired mattresses
5. Black lubricating grease dripping down the back of the bathroom door onto tiled floor
6. Full English breakfast served cold with missing components e.g. scrambled eggs, which, when finally served were oily.
7. Gold course green not particularly well maintained, and with muddy paths and debris around its perimeter.
8. When the above observations were reported to the receptionist, an apology was presented but no attempt was made to call a manager to discuss the matter further. For all we know, nothing will be done about improving the facilities / services of the hotel, which will continue to charge guests the way they have so far.

On the basis or our experience, the Dale Hill Hotel and Gold Club will not be recommended to friends and family.

Hotel bed & room 10/10 hense the 2 starts amazing sleep, swimming pool poor we ( group of 4 ) have been travelling the uk to all different golf courses, i must say we arrived 3 days after the rain we had for 6 hours , in 3 days the West course ( woosley) was dreadful no bounce balls just slapped in drainage must be bad.

Our last day funny enough it rain during the night ( heavily) we was expecting a voucher and course closed. But the pro shop said old course is closed but West course is open ( we was shocked but we thought we give it a go…. And guess what….. terrible again if not worse 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️my electric trolley died on the 11th and it was soaking so you could imagine the struggle.

We are not intending to returning which is a shame but who knows when weather gets dry.

Thank you for the review. Golf courses throughout the UK have received record amount of rainfall over this winter and yes our courses are not immune to this. We have done all we can to keep playing surfaces open and allow our members and visitors to get some golf. I am sure if you came fr a break over the summer you would have an entirely different experience but we do price our golf breaks lower in winter as the experience can be cold and wet which on this occasion it was. Kind Regards Carl
