The Relais Cooden Beach hotel captivates guests with its enviable beachfront location, often praised for stunning views and easy beach access, while the atmosphere is described as lively and inviting, complete with music events and chic decor. While some visitors find value in the picturesque setting and decor, others consider the hotel's offerings to be somewhat overpriced, despite reasonable drink prices.
Service is generally commended for its friendliness, though lapses in attentiveness have been noted. Rooms are deemed adequate with a nod to cleanliness, yet some guests mention noise issues and suboptimal layouts.

Review for wake on 26/2 The Relais Cooden Beach Hotel
My sister and I would like to thank all the staff involved in providing a wonderful wake after our late mum’s funeral.
Isabelle was very helpful at our enquiry meeting and showed us to a room most suitable for a gathering of 30 guests and overlooked the beach and garden. Together we discussed menus, prices, room layout-out, provision of overhead screen for photos and Bluetooth speaker for our music playlist. We chose to bring our own wine as we felt the house prices were unjustifiably expensive, corkage too was pricey although Isabelle was happy to negotiate a reduced rate.
On the day Kerry and her attentive staff were there to welcome us into our lovely room and under Kerry’s watchful eye our gathering flowed perfectly. The afternoon tea buffet we had chosen was served beautifully and included a variety of freshly made sandwiches, warm scones with jam, butter and clotted cream and a fantastic selection of little cakes and macarons which were thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike. Tea and coffee, jugs of fruit juices and our wine were all in plentiful supply and staff discretely topped us up as required.
At the end we were encouraged to take away any remaining food in the boxes provided and everyone was happy to oblige!
We would highly recommend this venue for a wake, not the cheapest but we were delighted with the overall high quality and concluded it was well worth the extra money for such a first class experience

Staff on check in and in the restaurant are very friendly and attentive.
Rooms seem fresh and are clean, although their size and layout varies. Bathrooms are well equipped and clean, good water pressure and temperature.
The room temperature was high on arrival but radiators can be adjusted, windows opened. No air conditioner in the rooms I’ve stayed in so summertime stays could be uncomfortable, despite the windows.
Dinner menu is quite short but the quality of the food is really good, freshly prepared and served promptly.
Breakfast menu has a great selection and quality is very good. Nice to have a cooked and continental to start the day.
Dining room looks out over the beach, which is a nice touch.
Seems a quiet location, on the beach and very close to the train station which I personally didn’t hear once I had checked in.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you found our staff friendly and attentive — we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words. It’s great to know you appreciated the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, as well as the quality of our food. We understand that room temperatures can vary, and we appreciate your feedback regarding summertime stays; we’ll continue to look for ways to enhance guest comfort. The peaceful beachfront location and proximity to the train station are indeed some of the features our guests enjoy most, and we’re glad you did too. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

The service provided by Barbra was excellent, she was charming ,quick and professional. The food was piping hot and delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and our six year old son was well fed too.
I would say it was disappointing not to have access to the hotels electric car charging points which were closed due to building work.
The Receptionist was also very helpful giving me room rates and charging my wife's phone. The general atmosphere was great and the entertainment helped add to the buzz of a great Sunday lunch.
Big compliments to the chef as we ate everything on all our plates.

Disappointing experience on the terrace. I have been a customer of the site for many years and enjoyed many great meals and drinks in the various bars, restaurants and in the terrace however my last experience highlighted a number of key concerns.
Firstly it has recently felt like hotel guests are getting preferential treatment which is a real shame as all customers should be treated equally. Local customers are also more likely to support the hotels catering services during the winter months when demand is likely to be lower than the summer with the better weather and the incredible location.
The prices have gone up more than expected and a number of highlight enjoyable dishes seem to have been removed from the menu.
When the bill came it was not itemised which was unacceptable. What is the management trying to achieve by failing to allow customers to see the itemised costs on the bill.
The site has had brilliant staff but I do wonder if there needs to be additional staffing to handle demand especially during holidays and weekends when you could also gain more support from your neighbours

We had our wedding at the Relais Cooden Beach on Friday 23rd September and can not praise the venue, the wedding package, and staff highly enough who treated us with courteousness and friendliness throughout.
A special thank you to Jenny and her team for making our special day run smoothly and make it all seem so effortless. Jenny provided a friendly relaxed approach to the planning of the day and her expertise certainly put our minds at rest. We definitely felt that we had chosen the right venue.
The location close to the beach is also a winner especially if you can get married outside, however, we were not so lucky with the weather as it poured with rain, but that did not deter the staff, who made the ceremony room look amazing and then a quick change around for the reception, tables and flower decorations again making it all look so special for us.
The choice of food was amazing, hot, and plentiful and friendly staff kept our guests happy with serving wine etc.
The evening bar staff were amazing, efficient, and service was quick. Our evening entertainer was equally catered for, giving him the perfect place to set up and the provision of refreshments.
At the end of the evening staff took all our cards and gifts to our room, kept our flowers, and brollies, safe and even boxed up the remaining cake for us, so we did not have to worry. The newly renovated room was nicely decorated, very comfortable with plenty of room, toiletries and plenty of hot water for the walk in shower.
The morning breakfast was just as delicious with a great choice and the full English Breakfast highly recommended.
Once again, I cannot thank Jenny and all the staff at the Relais Cooden Beach for making our wedding day so special. The new renovation works look amazing, well worth the wait. A Big, Big, thank you to everyone.

Stayed at the Relais Cooden as part of a business trip but I would happily stay here as part of any overnight stay at Bexhill on Sea. The hotel has clearly had a recent refurbishment and it was a nice balance between classic seaside hotel style with a contemporary feel. The bedroom was a little small and I think two people sharing would feel a bit claustrophobic, however, the bathroom was very spacious, probably one of the biggest shower cubicles I've ever seen in a hotel and I liked the fact that separate shampoo/conditioner was provided. The bed was nice and comfy, and the staff were very friendly and helpful in the short amount of time I was there.
Only a couple of minor complaints - the room got quite stuffy during the night with the heating on (my own fault for leaving it on I suppose), and I wasn't so keen on the food at the on-site bar/restaurant as both dinner and breakfast were a bit on the greasy side. It also didn't help that on a wet and windy November weekday there were no other places nearby to get alternative food/drinks and our options were limited to the hotel.

We stayed here for one night (Room 4 ground floor) for a family event locally. After booking I mentioned that my wife has problems with too many stairs and they assured me of a first floor room because there are no lifts. Then closer to the date we were then told that we were now on the ground floor which was perfect. A few days before arriving I called to ask about parking and whether they have disabled bays. I chatted with Tyler Sanderson-Smith who was very helpful and he said that he would make arrangements to have a parking bay at the rear of the hotel reserved for me. Then, much to my amazement, on the morning of our arrival he emails me again and say's "There is a reserved parking space in our back car park for you. There is a reserved sign in the parking bay which you can move to the side or at the end of the bay when you park your car." I have never had anyone follow through in this way and, although it sounds trivial, when you can't walk well its really important.
Here are my points, out of 10, with 10 being highest:
The room is fantastic (10) with a really great and large double bed (10). Ample storage, two TV's, and a super en-suite (10) with walk-in shower (10), great towels (10), lots of shower gels and other stuff, just really great. Because we were now on the ground floor we have a private seating area outside of the French doors. What! Yes, a private patio area with chairs etc to catch the rays (10). A room safe and sadly no instructions but the team at reception helped with that (4). Getting coffees that came with free brownies was very easy (10) and the bar staff were alert and friendly and very helpful (8). Tyler has to score a (12) because of his initiative.
This was a rare hotel experience where almost every aspect was above my expectations and I haven't even mentioned that it's on the beach!! What! And the railway station is just a few yards down the road but hidden from sight. Perfect!!

We had booked a nice trip to the spa for my sisters 21st birthday, but unfortunately this wasn’t a very nice experience
The spa is extremely small and overcrowded. There were 4 loungers in the actual spa area, a small “pool”, a sauna that wasn’t hot and the “shower” was basically broken. Considering how small the space was, it seemed to be very overcrowded. At one point there were around 12-15 people in the spa area and there simply was not enough room to relax.
There were two guests who kept leaving the spa area in their robes and going outside for cigarettes which ruined the experience even more as came back in stinking of smoke, I was surprised this was allowed
I had booked the “changing tides” treatment and was looking forward to a massage. The therapist seemed inexperienced and I would’ve received a similar quality of massage from my partner at home. Not worth paying for at all.
Changing rooms are odd, two shower cubicles and a toilet, with the open locker space big enough to fit 2 people in comfortably before getting overcrowded.
On a more positive note, the spa receptionist was lovely and know each booking persons name which was a good touch and the food was decent.

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at the spa for your sister's 21st birthday. It sounds like the facilities were not up to the standard you were expecting, with overcrowding and issues with the cleanliness of the space. The "Changing Tides" treatment and massage you received also did not meet your expectations. It's understandable that you would feel disappointed and frustrated after planning a special trip for your sister's birthday, only to have it not live up to your hopes. I'm glad to hear that the spa receptionist was lovely and the food was decent. However, these positive aspects were not enough to make up for the overall negative experience.

We had a quick dinner here last night.
The food was good and the service similarly good although the food took some time to come.
The prices seem a bit high but given the beach front location maybe ok
The main thing that caught my attention was once we ordered the food and drinks the waitress came straight back a card machine for me pay. I suppose this is ok - if I’d ordered at the bar I may well have paid there and then but it seemed odd. In truth we have ordered more drinks and possibly a dessert had we not settled up already
I’d eat here again but maybe my wife’s fish and chips was better value and the drinks seemed pricey- we never got a bill or receipt so I’m not sure

Firstly, of what we saw of the revamp of the hotel it looked nice, fresh and very clean.......but that's where the positives stopped.
The afternoon tea itself was underwhelming - some of the sandwiches were quite dry, I've had better scones from the supermarket and the tiny cakes were nothing special and again quite dry. The tea and coffee were ok but there was no choice offered and we had to ask for more milk as we were initially given very little for three of us.
What has made me very annoyed is the discretionary service charge added onto the bill. I am happy to tip for good service but this was mediocre service at best by very young, inexperienced staff. I didn't appreciate having over ÂŁ10 added to my bill, yes I could of refused to pay it but I think it was unfair to be put in this position in the first place.
Afternoon tea here could be a real event given the hotel's location and recent revamp, but it's done on the cheap and it really shows. Would recommend you go to the Tic-Tocery in Pett instead - they really know how to deliver an excellent afternoon tea with excellent customer service.
Really disappointing, we won't be back.
