Nestled in a tranquil setting convenient for local attractions, Powdermills Hotel & Restaurant is celebrated for its spacious rooms with scenic views and a warm, inviting atmosphere. While the cleanliness receives high marks with the property being well-maintained, some guests feel the decor and certain areas are in need of a refresh. The service garners mixed reviews, with commendations for the staff's friendliness but also concerns regarding responsiveness. Although some visitors mention the hotel's pricing as steep without matching expectations, the overall ambiance and location often make for a relaxing stay.

I was introduced to this lovely hotel by my cousin who insisted we call in last summer for a coffee and a look around. It was such a lovely, peaceful location that, when we were invited to a work event at Powder Mills, we jumped at the chance of staying the night. I found a great offer on Travelzoo for a one night bed and breakfast stay which worked perfectly and was great value for money.

It was already dark by the time we arrived but there’s a welcoming and warming log fire as you enter the main entrance and an equally warm welcome at reception as we were quickly checked-in and shown to our room. We had a twin bedded room on the first floor and although the stairs are a little uneven and the floorboards creak these are entirely in keeping with the age and character of the building. We loved the decor and layout of the room, having two windows and a lovely en-suite bathroom. Everything looked clean and fresh and we slept very well indeed. For me, the only little niggle was the lack of shelf space in the bathroom. Shower gel, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner are provided as well as a small round of soap. I only used the shower gel which smelt lovely.

Breakfast is served in the beautiful and bright Orangery from 07:30-09:30 where you help yourself to cold options such as cereals, juices and pastries, while hot food and drinks are ordered and brought to your table. In spite of sitting there chatting until 10:00, no one rushed us out.

We thorough enjoyed our short break; I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, perhaps in the summer so I can see something of the beautiful grounds.

We stayed 2 nights courtesy of Travelzoo. The weather was appalling the first day - hardly the fault of the hotel, but the fact that TV reception was nil in bad weather was not good.
The receptionist was great and took us to our generously sized double room. We ate in the hotel the first evening. An excellent meal well served. Breakfasts were good and included in our deal. Well cooked and good quality food, especially the sausage and bacon, the ingredients that can really let down a breakfast.
Because the weather and ground were so wet, we only briefly explored the extensive grounds. The WiFi was strong and reliable. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom had a bath - hooray - with an overhead shower if required.
All in all, a good stay. We would definitely go back.

This is a great place, with an interesting history. It has beautiful grounds, you can have quite a good walk just going round the lakes and our bedroom had a lovely view out over the biggest one. However, it is rather tired. Perhaps it was because we were visiting in October at the end of the season and with COVID still quite close, but it felt rather sad...it needs a spruce up and then it will be fabulous.
The breakfast was excellent. You order what you would like the night before.
The evening dinner however was overpriced, and the waiting staff appeared inexperienced and struggling though trying their best.
Our bathroom was very 1980s, and getting in and out of the bath to have a shower bordering on the hazardous.
The staff were all polite and helpful, and the guidance around COVID, mask wearing and sanitising a high priority.

My husband and I chose this hotel as a base and we loved it. Not far to Dungeness and Tenterden and Hastings and Rye. Our room was clean and comfortable and spacious. We had a balcony overlooking the pool. Covid friendly so nobody but entered the room once we had checked in - and fresh towels etc were left when we requested them outside our door in a sealed bag. We chose breakfast the night before which was brought to our table on a large tray. I loved this as it was like having a picnic. I took a walk around the lake and saw the ducks and in the evening it was fun to see the foxes dashing about. Really nice staff and plenty if room to distance ourselves from others. We will be back.

We had 2 lovely and relaxing days at The PowderMills Hotel and Restaurant. The room was spacious and warm.
The restaurant is offering a nice selection of starters, main courses and desserts. The risotto was outstanding.
The breakfast is cooked freshly, served on a tray as the new restrictions were applied perfectly.
I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quietness and quality.

We booked a wedding at the Powdermills Hotel in October 2018. We met with the Wedding Co-ordinator who provided a hand written quote for the cost of the wedding. On the basis of this we paid a deposit. A couple of weeks later we received a typed quote and the same specification was the same but the price had increased significantly. We were greatly aggrieved by this and after much negotiation they finally agreed to stick with the original quote. However, a couple of guests noticed that there were errors on the invoices for their rooms being charged for services or facilities that they had not received. We tried ringing the hotel to complain but we were told no manager was available and we would need to speak to the book keeper who worked part time. We phoned the book keeper a couple of times without success and left messages on the answerphone but they never returned the call. We never did get a refund. So if you do book with this hotel, check all your paperwork carefully and don’t pay them anything until you have checked the accuracy of the invoice.

We have just had a two night stay here for a wedding.
The hotel is in a gorgeous setting and the lakes that are part of the hotel were a stunning backdrop to the outside wedding ceremony. The staff looking after the wedding arrangements worked really hard to make it go to plan.
Our room was in the main building and was really large with doors straight out onto a little patio and a view of the lake. It was a lovely room.
I do think it would be nice if the hotel put in some mini fridges with real milk in them for tea and coffee in the rooms as milk in plastic cartons isn't very nice and is not environmentally friendly. Also, during hot weather having the complimentary water chilled in the fridge would be a really nice bonus.
The reception staff were extremely helpful and efficient but there were a few housekeeping issues that need addressing by management.
When we arrived at 2.30pm there was a big pile of bedding in the corridor near our room which had obviously been taken off one of the beds in a room along the corridor. At 8am the the next day it was still there, which meant it had been sitting there blocking the route to a fire exit and looking unsightly overnight. I mentioned this to a member of the reception team and by the time we got back from breakfast it was gone but it shouldn't have been necessary to mention it. Similarly, I had to ask the reception team to get someone to make up our room as when I popped back to it at about 7pm on the day of the wedding it still hadn't been cleaned.
I also noticed that there were a lot of areas that needed a good tidy up - someone had put a dirty full ash tray on the steps between the bar area and the pool which I noticed on our first day but was still there on our departure 48 hours later, and there's an area where banqueting tables and other miscellaneous items were piled up outside one of the buildings that didn't look very nice. There are lots of areas around the hotel that need tidying up or maintenance doing to them to bring them back up to scratch.
The breakfast was exceptionally good, as was the food and the meal service at the wedding. The only thing that wasn't so good is that the bar doesn't open until lunchtime so if you want a coffee or soft drink between the end of breakfast and the bar opening you have to walk into the restaurant and flag down one of the staff members that are busy laying up for lunch and whilst they are very happy to do this I feel that opening the bar after breakfast for tea and coffees would be a better option.
I would definitely go back for another stay as I love the grounds so much and the area is beautiful but I do think that there is a slight lack of attention to detail that needs addressing.

Stayed for four nights as it was convenient for visiting a number of friends who have moved to the Bexhill area. The main buildings have an old fashioned authenticity about them, & it seems impertinent to rush around hastily. The outdoor pool was enjoyable despite being unheated, but it does catch the sun most of the day. Breakfast, whilst not being "spectacular" tried to cater for all tastes - and tasted pretty good too! Dining in the evening had the same menu each night but the choices were sufficient for us to not have to eat the same dishes more than once. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, also the portions were more than adequate. The waiting staff were not only efficient but very friendly too. As we had eaten out mid-day on some days they were more than pleased to serve us with just a starter and a dessert. The grounds were well looked after and whilst wandering around the lake behind the hotel we observed a fisherman landing perch of around 26 lbs which must indicate that the water here is in good condition. Overall we had a most enjoyable visit and look forward to returning sometime in the future,

My husband and I spent a couple of great days at Powder Mills Hotel after having to postpone a previous booking due to lock down restrictions. The hotel was very helpful in re-arranging things for us.

We were welcomed by reception who booked us in upon arrival and they explained some changes which had had to be put in place in accordance with the Covid guidelines.

We were allocated room 7 in the main building which was very spacious with it's separate, comfortable sitting area with a large TV and coffee/tea facilities. There were 2 large windows overlooking the car parking area outside the hotel. The bathroom had a good shower and the usual toiletries. My only complaint was the toilet did not have a very good ‘flushing’ system!

We were presented with breakfast order forms upon arrival with a good selection of choices. These had to be completed and handed in before the end of day. (a change due to new regulations)

At breakfast we received a large tray served to the table with tea/coffee, cereals etc., which was then followed up by our cooked choice of breakfast. It was very good and worked well as it happened!

Our evening meals were very good with a wide selection of choices. We had to wait a while but it was explained that they started the meal from scratch once the order was submitted to ensure freshness. The staff were very helpful, friendly and courteous.

The hotel itself has some wonderful grounds in which to walk and enjoy the two picturesque lakes. A swimming pool was close to the hotel.

It was worth the return visit ....and the wait following the lock downs.

My husband and I decided to spend our second wedding Anniversary here. We booked a double room. On arrival we were not happy because the entire room and the bedding smelt of dogs. So the lady very quickly exchanged rooms for us for another room which on entry looked great. The room was very comfortable and all the things seemed to work well. Housekeeping needs to be addressed because there were cigarette butts on the balcony, the bedside lamp was not plugged in, we spent ten minutes working out why the light was not working. Only two pillows were provided so we had to ask for another two. There were really bad stains on the chair covers and the table which could have been removed. The bed and the duvet again smelt of dogs but we decided to stay where we were because we had unpacked. The food in the restaurant was very good and the gentleman who greeted us on Monday morning at Breakfast did a great job taking care of us. We were surprised when we sat down someone walked over with our coffee. Neither of us drink it or asked for it. The cups and cutlery were a bit grubby with stains all over them and the linen had previous stains as well. When we checked out we spoke about the room to the lady there and she said next time we book we must ask for a dog free room. Why the first woman didnt tell us there is a dog free zone was surprising. She said sometimes there are guests who are sensitive around dog smells. We like dogs, but not in the bed and in the duvets, so we are not sensitive to dogs at all quite the opposite. I said that I had a terrible night sleep and ended up sleeping on the floor. No discount of any sort or anything was offered to us, so its not inviting or appealing to go back.
The grounds were spectacular to walk around in and chill out.

Can't speak about all the rooms, but the one we had overlooking the large lake was fine, no smells....only a mark on the doormat next to the sliding window/doorway leading onto the grass where the ducks frequent and sometimes leave their 'calling cards!' I loved the place, especially the views, peace and relaxation.
