Absolutely lovely second stay at Slimmeria. The detox works. I lost a stone on the first visit and kept it off and I lost just under a stone this visit. I hope to keep that off too. I’ll be back to see if I can lose another stone. It does change your mindset about eating and I’ve been more mindful about what I eat since my return.
It’s not easy. You need to do a pre detox for a week before you come. I’d advise giving up caffeine to avoid the withdrawal. It makes for a more pleasant stay. I felt weak by Wednesday but by Thursday I was energised and a new me.
The guests are always lovely ladies. I come on my own so having good company helps you get through the week.
The trainers are wonderful and super encouraging.
The country walks are amazing and I enjoy the classes. Lots of circuits/yoga/Pilates/tai chi and I love the dance class at the end of the week.
Afternoons are free but there is a vineyard and forest you can walk in. You can take local walks but I often got a taxi into Bexhill-on-Sea where you can easily walk to Hastings and back. It’s also good for your mental health, I have a stressful job and I didn’t think about it once when I was there. I managed to read a book which I can’t do at home as you do get some relaxation time. I will be back!

Dear Friend, Congratulations on losing your second stone this year and keeping it off in between visits! It shows it really works! It is so lovely you bonded with the other guests during the week, it really helps to work as a team and get great tips from each other. We are so pleased you made the most of your stay, taking part in all activities. This really showed in your results! You put in the hard work and you will succeed. Well done, keep up your new lifestyle changes at home and we will always be happy to see you again. Slimmingly yours, The Slimmeria Retreat

I stayed at Hye House for the first time (I’ll be going back!) at the end of November. I was looking for a short sharp shock for my metabolism and Slimeria absolutely delivered. I was a last minute booking and warmly welcomed by proprietor Galia on arrival - a lovely surprise and one that left my husband more than a little star struck when he dropped me off (I’d forgotten to tell him that Galia is the one and only Galia from the Lotts Road Auction House TV series).

Hye House is beautiful and set in a lovely rural part of Sussex but that was not what I was there for, I was there for a mind and body reset and I can honestly say that I am so glad I went. Before booking I had read the reviews (of course) and am truly grateful to one of the previous reviewers, Jay P who said that if you approach your stay with a warrior mindset it will work for you - great advice and that’s what I did. This is hardcore, it is not for the fainthearted and if you do as you are told, you get results. Having struggled to shift weight over the last year following surgery, I was thrilled to end my five days with a six pound weight loss, 2 inches (!) off my waist and a hugely boosted sense of self confidence and belief.

The programme is rigorous, this is not an hotel, there is no room service, no housekeeping of rooms and no little in room luxuries. The clear expectation is that as you’ve paid for results, they (the talented, committed, professional, motivating and encouraging team) will ensure that you get them. That means a two hour (exactly two hour) walk in the mornings, followed by an hour in the lovely gym doing something high energy to music, followed by an hour of yoga or Pilates. I quickly got used to the daily rhythm at Hye House and enjoyed it.

Perhaps the most striking testimonial of all is that the majority of guests are returners. Only one other person in my group was like me, a newbie. All the others come and go at various levels of frequency. Two in particular I got chatting to told me that having Hye House in their lives has been an absolute game changer. I couldn’t quite see why on our first evening, now, six weeks later I absolutely get it. If you’re wondering whether I’ve kept my weight off (especially with Christmas in the middle), I have, and those two inches from my waist?……increased thanks to new exercise habits.

Finally, to Galia and her fabulous team, especially the chef whose care and attention to the detail of each meal shine through, thank you, and Happy Slim Year!

Helen

Always love going to Slimmeria as I loose at least a stone every time I visit the place. They have an amazing retreat for weight loss with very good, positive, kind, friendly encouraging qualified trainers/instructors who encourage and aid in the weight loss process with long walks in the countryside, loads of classes and yoga/stretching/Thai chi classes. The food diet aids in the weight loss and the retreat provides a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere to detox, loose weight and relax at the same time. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to loose weight in a healthy way in a short period of time

Slimmeria was a disappointing retreat.
No welcome meeting or weigh in. You were told there was a scales and measuring tape if you wanted to use them.
Rooms were up 2 flights of stairs which with a heavy case was difficult to manoeuvre.
The rooms were dark depressing and beds were old.
The food was very bland and inedible.
After 1pm there was on most days nothing to do.
The whole house was dark and dreary.
With a lot of medieval furniture and antiques.
This is the owners taste and if you were coming to a museum about the battle of Hastings would be fitting.
But not a detox retreat.
There is simply no care here. Everyone is just dumped in rooms and left.
One morning i slept through my alarm but no one thought to see if I was ok.
It seems that the owner has lost interest.
The Trainers are good……..but I feel they are tired of the lack of equipment and are making do.
Everything feels old.
For the money it cost it simply was not worth it.
You don’t need to give people broiled inedible carrots, cabbage & courgette at mostly every meal.
On a good point the gardener / groundsman was lovely and kept the outside pool very clean, just a shame the pool was so cold you couldn’t use it.

Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. Our end nothing was different to any other week we run retreats, and we are pleased to say that all other guests that shared your experience with you have now booked new retreats to return. Clearly, we cannot please all the people all of the time, but it looks that week most of the people were happy. We are also very pleased you found our staff lovely and friendly and the outside pool very clean. The pool was never advertised as heated, and guests who stayed your week actively used it and felt the benefits of cool water. Thank you for confirming that our trainers are good, however they noticed your non participation in some activities and classes. Guests who participate in ALL activities and classes and do extra walks always find it more interesting and tend not to go out ‘’to other places’’ or have lunches with friends outside of the retreat. Those are the guests who remain positive and happy with their results at the end of the week. They do not leave the retreat feeling disappointed. RE other points that you raised. You had a personal welcome tour of the house from one of the managers, at which point you mentioned how beautiful the house was. We provide scales and measuring tape, some guests use them, some don’t. Here at the retreat we absolutely adhere to health and safety measures and check on guests regularly. Since you missed some activities already on that occasion, at the end of the week, when you didn’t join our walk, we assumed that your intention again was to skip this activity. Upon reservation all guests receive information on heavy suitcases and stairs. Your room was very light, apple white light wall colour, 2 big windows and 2 double beds. You seemed to comment on how lovely it was when you first saw it. The Grade II * Georgian manor house dating back to 1744 is decorated in timeless traditional Georgian style. Our website offers photos and videos of all our rooms, including bedrooms receptions etc where they can also see a very bright white modern orangery, bright white conservatory and bright and light reception areas. Of course, tastes differ and, if for some reason, people are not able to enjoy the benefits of detox retreat due to wall colours, then they simply don’t book it. How would one expect a detox retreat, which is run from a historic manor house should look? And what sort of furniture would fit in a historic building? Luckily most of our discerning customers join ours retreats for the right reasons. RE the food, we would not even go there as covered previously many times. By the looks of it you have checked the information on the food we provide, as straight on arrival, even before trying anything, you had some pre conceptions that apparently our food would be awful. People do not join us for culinary delights, but we noted that you might have found them elsewhere, which would obviously then make your retreat according to you ‘’simply not worth the money’’. We agree with you. Why would people just spoil this experience for themselves? Is it lack of will power?. Having said that we were pleased to note that according to the housekeeper you ate most of the food she offered. RE insinuations about the owners personal taste in décor and general interest in the retreat, those are completely unnecessary as you don’t know the owner. We are very happy to note that most guests are not put off our décor and join us for the right reasons. Wishing you all the best for the future. Slimmingly yours The Slimmeria Retreat

I was one of the group who attended with Paul654. He and the others in the group were all charming, and I have to say that his review did not merit such a strident, hectoring and defensive response. His review was spot on, and I endorse it completely. Furthermore, making personal criticisms (e.g. about an unavoidable travel delay) is not becoming of a service provider. You are there to serve us, not vice versa. Unfortunately these remarks reflect the schoolma'm-ish attitude we found in one of the staff. I agree with his positives about the remainder of the staff, but it is unfair and unreasonable for management to delegate its responsibilities to a shifting population of trainers and instructors, however good they were at their own roles (and they were indeed very good, as were the spa staff).

We filled in a health questionnaire in which we were asked to mention any issues that might affect our participation in the activities. But these were clearly not used to inform the instructors, leading to a couple of us having to tell each of the many different instructors on each occasion about our issues in front of everyone. Apart from our obvious embarrassment, the instructors could not prepare for our limitations, and had to make up alternative exercises as they went along, which was hardly client-friendly. Not their fault, but avoidable. What then was the point of the questionnaire?

There are many contradictions of presentation. The marketing materials call this a boot camp, which is fair and as expected. But now the website also advertises it as being like a boutique spa hotel (albeit with health benefits). I did experience health benefits but a boutique spa hotel it is not! There was no heated towel rail because (understandably) the central heating was not on - but have you not heard of dual fuel rails? Having to resort to drying towels over curtain rails is not acceptable when one is showering several times a day. My room was not the only one that was cramped; my shower had traces of mould and on arrival I had to remove some human hairs from it myself in order to 'keep to schedule'; and some of the 'antique' furniture could do with a good clean (I mean a clean, not just a dustering). Pity these many small things spoiled an otherwise productive time (I lost 5 kilos and have kept them off so far!

Dear Guest, Thank you for placing your feedback and for supporting your fellow retreaters. We are pleased that you liked our staff, experienced health benefits, had a productive time and lost 5kg along the way, which you also kept off. Congratulations! This is what Slimmeria Retreat is all about. It looks overall you had a positive experience. We really appreciate your feedback and would like to address some of the points you raised. RE: Description of the retreat on the website. We are not a spa hotel, we do not advertise as one, and we did not change anything on the website recently. Therefore we cannot further comment on ‘ the new advertising on the web’ ... RE: Cleanliness. We are going to try even harder to keep the place clean and will look into introducing new cleaning procedures. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We would have loved also to take an opportunity to refresh your room on your arrival (as opposed to being told about it after your Retreat), there and then, so that you had a more enjoyable stay. Currently we have a procedure where managers specifically check with the guests on Sunday and Monday whether everything is fine with their rooms. We noted none of the guests including yourself did voice any concerns during briefings, by email, phone call or text. RE: Antique furniture. Thank you for appreciating it and we took notes about your recommendations. RE: Towels rails. The guests requested for them to be on and we addressed it. RE: Management and strict staff. We did not change the format of running the Retreat or our ethos of being strict but fair. We run Retreats in a structured but informal way and have a diverse team of highly devoted members of staff, most of whom ‘wear different hats’. Some of our managers later trained to be fitness instructors. Irrespective of their training background or position in the company we ALWAYS prefer to introduce ourselves in an informal way. i.e. just by name. We never had a ‘front of house reception’, as we are not a hotel. Staff work on/off site, and we have a telephone line. Ahead of the stay guests receive information that staff occasionally working remotely however, most of the office hours the staff are at the Retreat or available by the phone line. RE: Guests being late for activities. Equally we have complaints from other guests who would prefer to start the walk on time and not wait for others. We thank you for being always on time and for embracing our ethos. RE: Our reply to the previous review. We do not feel that presenting our side of the story should be considered ‘defensive’ when placed on the portal where guests and venues are encouraged to freely present their opinions. Wishing you all the best. Slimmingly yours, The Slimmeria Retreat

I was at Hye House in August and it wasn't my first visit and it probably won't be my last. Slimmeria for me is not only a detox retreat but re-educating your brain cells to think outside of the box where food/drink is concerned. It's a great way to reset your body and mind. My visit this time around was for health reasons. My Dr told me that my cholesterol was sky high and I was on the cusp of pre-diabetes. Can't say I was surprised as I had been naughty with food, work and social events etc and I was expecting an outcome such as this. So, once told, my mind flipped into reverse, cut out the unhealthy carbs and fat; booked in with Slimmeria and the rest is history. I had lost some weight before coming to Slimmeria due to my change in diet and active lifestyle; and when I left Slimmeria I'd lost almost 5kg. Very pleased with the result; and I'm still losing weight even now. It makes such a difference, my clothes fit without being uncomfortable, my hormones are happy and I feel better internally; and I don't wake up feeling like I've ingested garbage, literally!

I just want to add that the cook puts so much passion into what you eat because even she wants you to do well and believes in the detox, so please don’t poo poo what you are given. Great trouble has gone into making your meals!

Also met some wonderful people and made great connections. It was the first time that I felt that the whole group really gelled and were very comfortable opening up about their personal lives.

All I would say to those who are dubious or those who are thinking of visiting Slimmeria, is to have an open mind and embrace everything on offer from activities to food. Think of Slimmeria as a re-education of the mind, and back to basics on how you perceive food. I treat my body and mind with respect now more so than ever, and I feed them with vitality. Look after yourselves. Silpa

Dear Friend, Thank you for a lovely review and congratulations on your amazing weight loss. We are so pleased you have found us, and like you say in your review we are so much more than just a weight loss retreat. Our programme helps massively to reset the body and mind and even in one week can reverse Type 2 diabetes and relieve so many symptoms we get from many illnesses.. We will feedback to the chef, thank you for complimenting her food as she does really do her best in making us all healthier. It shows that you have taken away our tips for implementing when you go home. It also shows you really have stuck to those tips as you have continued to lose weight, which is fantastic. It is also lovely you met some like-minded people in your group, this really helps you all to get through the challenging week on a detox. Keep up the good work, if you ever need a reset, you know where we are. Slimmingly yours, The Slimmeria Retreat

I am a long term addict to the Slimmeria Health and Fitness Retreat in East Sussex. Regular visits have become a part of my yearly routines because I arrive feeling fat, overworked, tired and unfit then leave feeling slim, healthy, rested, much fitter and with certain sense of contentment restored. My latest stay was no exception; it is amazing what a structured week of low calorie vegan meals, daily exercise and the company of like minded , interesting professional women in the country air will do deliver a lasting boost.

I lose between 8 and 12 lbs each time I visit Slimmeria but it is really the detoxing break from eating meat, caffeine, alcohol and most of all the exercise that keeps me coming back. It's a reset to healthier living habits too. I like my treats, (wine, snacks, big dinners at home and out) and I don't feel I have to give them up if I can go to Slimmeria to work off the excess a few times a year while enjoying the break.

The bedrooms are pretty and period, the surrounding countryside is delightful - there is a 2 hour country walk every morning - and everyone takes their meals chatting together. The exercise classes are realistic but as challenging as they need to be. Women of all ages, shapes and sizes can be found at Slimmeria and on occasion a man or two is in the group. Everyone will leave thinner and fitter if they stick to the regime. You can see the change in people as they develop a glow (and start to shrink!) over the course of the week.

If you want to make some changes in your health and habits, lose some weight and meet some lovely people, Slimmeria is for you.

Dear Friend, Thank you for being such a loyal guest, it always a pleasure to have you return to Slimmeria. You prove it really works and you can also still enjoy a quality lifestyle outside of the Retreat. An 8-12lb weight loss each time is an incredible weight loss and as you say you can really see and feel the benefits of the 7 day programme during the week and after your stay. Well done for taking part in everything while you are here and ensuring that you make the effort and go on a second walk in the afternoons it really is worth the results. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Slimmingly yours, The Slimmeria Retreat

The location is set deep in the heart of the East Sussex countryside, with an abundance of beautiful scenery, great walks and friendly locals.

I started to stay here at the end of January and booked a stay for 10 days and am so glad I did.

Have lost over a stone in a week, have got my mojo back and have really embraced the healthy living this place really instils.

My room is great and booked a double bed, which is very spacious and beautifully decorated with furniture in keeping with a Grade 2 listed building.

The food is great and has filled me up since I have been here - Please be mindful that it is about 18 hours between your evening meal and lunch the following day, before you eat solids. It has really made me think about the rubbish I was putting inside my mouth and what I was doing to my body.

I have loved the walks, the mud and the hills as this has certainly helped to shift all of the unwanted weight.

I was really luck to have such a lovely group in the first week, who all put their heart and soul into embracing the SLIM REAPER's no nonsense regime!!!!

The exercises classes were very different and the yoga, following these was such a relief from having worked out for 3 hours previously. I would say do all of the classes including the evening dance ones, as they were such fun.

The instructors, Graham and Shelly, were so friendly and approachable and very positive and will do their best to motivate you, so that you can achieve your best. A great big thank you to them both. I would also like to say a really big thank you to Inara the cook at Slimmeria. Such a lovely friendly person, who really looked after us all and especially on the turnaround day when she made me a great big fresh salad with a whole boiled egg to accompany this.

I am planning to come back here in the next couple of months as I continue my weight loss and lifestyle journey, and would definitely say this is the place to come if you are serious kick starting a ne healthy you.

A big thumbs up from me and I would give this 10 out of 5 stars, the number of repeat guests who return, as with my group last week, is a testament to Galia and her Slimmeria product.

Not only achieving your own success, you were a great motivator and helped so many of your fellow guests also push themselves to get to their goals too. Where do I start ? Ok so if you are looking for a detox retreat where you can sit around in a white dressing gown and slippers sipping Prosecco please do not come here as you will be bitterly disappointed.
However if you are looking to cleanse your mind and body, meet amazing like minded people, be motivated not humiliated by staff and get results that you could never imagine ... then you have found the place for you.
The yoga and fitness staff were a joy and I must mention Graeme who made someone who has never ever enjoyed an exercise class actually want to do more.
If o could bottle and sell the feeling as you walk away from here after your stay .. I would be richer than my wildest dreams

Dear friend, Thank you very much for this amazing feedback of your experience with us, you totally summed up so well what we are about. It was such a lovely week with positive guests and the results surpassed everyone’s expectations. Congratulations on losing a stone in 7 days. Thank you for enjoying our forest walks and our unheated swimming pool, the latter being particulary brave at this time of the year but no doubt contributed to your results. We look forward to meeting you plus your family again next year. Slimmingly yours, The Slimmeria Retreat

I have been going to Slimmeria on and off for a few years . I checked in On Sunday 11/08/24 at 17-30 weighting 16st- 7Ibs, I checked out at 8 am Sunday 18th weighting 15st.

Slimmeria is not easy but VERY MUCH worth it. Mon-Wed can be difficult the walks are quiet hard but manageable , the change in diet and the de-tox also take some adjusting too.

In the first 3 days you missing your family and in my case beer, coffee and unhealthy food. However once you get past Wednesday things get easier mostly because you start to notice you are losing weight and feeing better,Thursday onwards you are on the homeward straight and really beginning to notice the difference.

Some guests left on Saturday for various( family) reasons, and other guests waited till Sunday morning to go , which I think is worth doing, as your body is still in de -tox mode. It great to start the homeward journey feeling much better and lighter than when you came the previous Sunday.

The results are amazing , people are friendly and the local area is lovely ( away from temptation ), if you put your mind to it you will lose (a lot) of weight and make friends.

Somethings to note

(i) Men tend to lose more weight

(ii) Don't cheat you are only cheating yourself

(iiI) Don't weight yourself everyday, wait till when you are leaving , let it be a Nice surprise.

(iv) Relax and enjoy the the surroundings

I have been back just couple of days and I have changed a few things about my diet not going to drink alcohol (often) during the week and eat less bread, chips and pasta , which base on passed visits to Slimmeria keeps my weight under control for most the year.

Have a nice stay.

Hi. If your room is on the ground floor, which would be a standard shared facilities or Garden Suite, a suitcase is fine. If it’s on the first or second floor, then in your suitcase pack your items into manageable plastic bags to carry up the stairs. Your suitcase will be safely stored where you can get to it during the day. The stairs are a mix of grade 2 and quite steep, so it’s to avoid accidents and preserve the original staircase. It’ll all be worth it you’ll have a fabulous time.

It kicked started healthier eating & walking but it is a starvation routine, after living on 450 Cal's per day, you are going to put weight back on its impossible not to. But it definitely helped me get back on the right track, I'm strong willed most the time anyway, the reason I went is if just been eating crap for 6mnth while finishing a MA. So it was the kick I needed but if your not strong willed in the 1st place Slimeria isn't going to help you in the long run as they don't teach you anything. It definitely works short term if you don't cheat while you are there (people do!!). I would do it if you've thought about it, we all need something for ourselves, it could change your life or at the very least it will give you the confidence to know you can do it if you try. Good luck.

They give you about 400-450 Cal's per day. Typical day= hot water with lemon 1 extremely thin slice of apple, walk, fruit juice, exercise class followed by yoga. Lunch -salad, mainly cabbage. Fruit in afternoon is the quantity of approx 3 strawberries. Dinner is the most revolting, warm (not hot) veggies always boiled in something disgusting that I could not put my finger on. As far as I could make out, other than the juice there is no nutritional value in any of the food, they do it coz it's cheap & you are guaranteed to loose weight on such little food. Hope this helps

What is the price per week for cheap room?

You better contact Slimmeria direct because prices vary according to the time of the year. In January and February they have cheap deals. I paid over £500 p.w. In a room which I had to share with another person.
