I booked a room for 2 nights so that we could see our daughter and grandsons who live in Hitchin. It was booked as it was advertised both on its own website and via booking.com as bed and breakfast and I wanted to save my daughter cooking at least two meals whilst we were there. I also sent a message asking what time we could book in. No response to my request and when we arrived there was no breakfast provided. We could have a two pound fifty brown bag with a croissant and drink of orange or go across the car park and have a breakfast at the restaurant with a ten percent discount. I was extremely angry because I had only booked because it was bed and breakfast and local to Hitchin.I also paid sixty eight pounds which in my book is expensive for a bed. When I complained I was offered a brown bag breakfast which I declined. Just to make this a bad experience altogether, the coffee and tea supplied in the room consisted of 1 coffee sachet, 2 decaf sachets and 2 tea bags, as there was no room cleaner no peplenishment was expected. We did get some extra supplies from reception but I'm sorry this is bad service. I will not consider staying in any of these hotels again.

Basic accommodation....Room needs updating...but for the price, you can't argue.....Breakfast is so basic that the establishment may as well not bother. Lower the price a bit and let customers use the nearby restaurant, if the wish

God, where do I start?
The room was about 400 degrees with no air con at all. Got a crappy little fan but that didn't make any difference.

Had the most pathetic breakfast provided, which consisted of a cheap croissant, a not so fresh apple, and a small carton of warm orange juice. (I get with Covid things are a bit tight and that, but still, gross.)

The taps on the bath barely turned so I couldn't have a decent shower. But even when the water came out it had the water preasure equivalent of a child drooling.

There was one woman, who looked like someone just stretched some skin over one of those display skeletons from science class, who was staying there who was constantly sat outside smoking weed. Didn't think that would be okay, but I don't think the staff ever said anything so I think it's an "anything goes" kind of place.

Also, there were the two biggest spiders I've ever seen in my life in my room. Wouldn't normally mind, but considering the size of them they should have been paying to stay with me. I assume they were doing some site work or something.

The pub just in front was nice though, very clean, good food, friendly staff, and decently socially distanced as possible really. Can't fault them at all.

Honestly would have had a better night's sleep if I actually slept on the A1 during rush hour.

Redwings Lodge? More like give these wings a dodge, am I right?

This hotel punches above its weight; lets get one thing straight, if you expect Butlers and servants presenting silver service then look elsewhere, it doesnt have a restaurant under its roof. It does have one 30 feet away which seems excellent.
Back to the hotel, a wonderful greeting by Artie on reception and followed up by her wonderful colleagues who took over on nights then days. Beaming smiles and helpfulness were the order of the day. I cannot think of a better reception anywhere in the world than we got yesterday and I have been fortunate to stay in some wonderful locations. This had no equal.
The room was clean and well stocked, soap in the dispenser and crisp sheets (bed was hard and not to our liking but thats preference). Water was aired and the kettle boiled in record time, tea bags and coffee were readily replenished by Artie, still with that engaging smile and helpful nature and all was well.
It is not the Ritz or Savoy; it is a basic hotel that does what it says on the tin. I found at its price the value was superb and would not hesitate to return were we to go back to the area. Next time we would make a point of nipping over to the much mentioned Cotey's restaurant, a family affair that has a good name.
If you can keep the expectations appropriate, there is no reason why you should not appreciate this hotel; they even chuck in a grab bag breakfast of Yoghurt, Croissant, fruit and a drink. The smile saw us off and we felt we had had both a bargain and met some lovely people too (one of the lads who was a guest was just as helpful explaining where things were and how to get to them). Our dog felt welcome too!! Thanks team, you were great and your customer service superb.

Clean warm and comfortable. Large rooms and a nice hot shower. Cereal toast tea and coffee available for breakfast or there is a hotel across the car park that opens at 8am if you want a cooked breakfast

We have stayed with Redwing before and it has always been great, although we booked two weeks ago nothing was mentioned about breakfast, when we arrived we were told no breakfast, just a breakfast bag, which to be honest there was nothing in it, child size juice cartons, brioche? and tea and coffee, told they cannot supply cereal, or bread. She said there's a pandemic you know? Only two teabags in the room, had to ask for more supplies. The room we had was actually very nice, although the net curtains had come away from the rail. It would have been fine if they had advised us on booking that breakfast was not available and we could have bought our own. Customer service was obviously not a priority!

Let’s make things clear. We are still in the middle of a pandemic. Normal service does not apply.
I work within the health and safety sector therefore you may class me as an essential worker. I had a room during the 2nd lockdown, no problem for people like myself. The staff at reception were lovely, had a nice chat, COVID measures were in place. Room was clean and combatable especially for the price. I have stayed many times and do miss the breakfast bar (toast, cereal, hot and cold drinks). But in these times I do get you can’t have lots of people crammed into a small corner.
Water was hot, could be a little hotter. WiFi kept dropping out and needed to keep signing in. But not end of world issues

Had to fight to get windows open in heat due to me having heatstroke. When I did that much black dirt and grime on the well out of date wooden frames had to scrape it off still a lot of black left. Luke their overnight receptionist told me to p*ssoff when I asked him for a toilet brush. Their sour faced manager Ann charged me normal rate when I told her about government reductions for a long term stay. So I got out while I could bear it.

Really good value for money, with a simple breakfast of toast, cereals, tea, coffee and juice included. Family room was well set out with single fold-out beds already made up for our two children. Staff were very friendly. Clean and well appointed.

The beds were comfortable and the room basic but clean. Breakfast is currently in a bag and more like a snack - no idea what it would be normally. It is absolutely fine as a budget place to stay for a break in a journey, which was what we were therefore.
Must mention it is right next to Cotey's Restaurant which served good food and we had both an evening meal and breakfast there which we enjoyed.
