The Lakeside Hotel & Spa boasts a picturesque lakeside setting that many guests adore, complemented by a comfortable spa and enjoyable pool. While the hotel's atmosphere exudes comfort and charm, some areas are seen as needing a refresh. Opinions on service are divided; staff are often commended for being friendly and professional, yet some guests have faced slow and disorganized service. Room experiences vary, with compliments on the decor and cleanliness, countered by calls for updates. Travelers caution that the hotel's pricing may not fully align with the overall quality offered.

We checked in on day one of the hotel industry opening up again to guests in 2021, so one could argue things will be a little hit and miss here and there, but it was anything but, staff, systems, check in was all clock work. We had one lake view room and one with a partial side view.

Both rooms were pretty much the same inside, so one has to weigh up if £50 a night extra for a view of the lake is worth it. It depends how much time you spend in the room I guess.

Sleep quality was good, the room was a bit hot on the first night, but otherwise ok, but no air con for those few days when we do get hot weather.

The location is also a question of likes and taste, you are either at the hotel or you are probably in the car or getting away by boat. There is nothing else here, so if you want to have a wander at night to a another bar or pub or go shopping, it is not here, as it is the hotel, ferry/boat terminal, a steam train catch point and an aquarium.

However, it you don't mind getting a taxi (£20 each way to Bowness) or the boat £27 return, and don't really want to leave the hotel for drinks or food, then they will really look after you well. Great selection of beers, nice bar, excellent food, great breakfasts and everything felt safe.

We used the spa, the massage is not cheap, it isn't anywhere now unless overseas, but very nice, the pool is lovely, all very modern, but not one to lounge round on a wet day as there are only two chairs and two loungers.

Couple of things surprised me by their absence in the rooms, no mini bar or fridge and no safe. You are also not greeted with any plugs or iphone charge points, so it is more 1990s than 2020s, but the shower ( over the bath) was amazing.

Definitely stay here if you want peace and quiet, great staff and service, excellent food and a nice base to explore by car or boat. The lake is also right in front of the hotel which makes it a magical setting.

Well done to the staff and management for getting everything right on day/week one.

Lakeside is a wonderful peaceful hotel overlooking Lake Windemere with very high standards and attention to detail.
The staff are warm and very welcoming, nothing is a trouble at all.
Lakeside has adapted to current government guidelines very well which make you feel safe and secure, we felt comfortable in the knowledge that they have everything completely covered. Dining is well spaced out, breakfast is served to the table rather than part buffet which is safer during this period, you keep the same table for evening meal and you never feel crowded at all.
We have been returning for 18 years and love the garden area it is relaxing colourful and picturesque, plenty of outdoor space to have a drink by the waters edge.
The Food is of high quality with plenty of textures and mouth watering flavours, there is good variety and you can always ask the staff for a particular option and they will aim to please.
The Spa is out of this world, I tend to swim at 7.00 am when it's very quite, it's such a peaceful space and spotless you can look out over Windemere on your relaxer chair and it's simply Heaven.
Lakeside has a family friendly feel and we felt secure during our break, we would recommend anyone to stay at this amazing Hotel.
The walks are of course another highlight the fresh air after lockdown is such a tonic we all need.

Our unrivalled location on the water's edge, offers so many opportunities to enjoy the lake. Over 100 metres of lake shore terrace and gardens allow you the space to unwind amongst panoramic views. Even the 17m pool & spa overlook the lake. Not forgetting the warmth of our huge conservatory...where you can take in the views, whatever the weather!

Stayed here with my wife on Friday 14th for 1 night. This is not a cheap place , booked directly with the hotel and paid £225 for a room with a view of the lakes.

Location is stunning and the building has a certain level of charm .

You pay good money so I expect the highest level of service and quality all round no excuses.

Let down by the following that I don’t expect for the rate I paid.

Check in 7/10 , a young lady was kind enough to show us around but we had to drag our bags around. Should of been told it’s a fair walk we will take your bags to the room. Nor were we asked on leaving whether our stay was okay!

Bar service 6/10 went twice to get a drink and I had to flag someone down to serve me. Not what I expect.

Gym some of the equipment had rust, modernise the equipment and make it clean.

Pool etc 9/10 clean clean clean. Only annoying thing the jacuzzi turned off after about 2 minutes not long enough.

Our room was stuffy, radiator in room did not work, no fresh air and the bathroom was so so hot you could not turn the temperature down.

Water pressure was appalling in our room 304.

Looks like a lot of young and inexperienced staff. Nothing wrong with having young people just train them up. They seemed shy and lacked experience.

Food and drinks over priced, we went to the Mason Arms to eat, highly recommended. Breakfast was fab and service was good.

The cruise boats are across the car park which is a bonus.

Definitely worth staying and experiencing but would I go again, No.

We have spent 6 days / nights here after looking forward to this break for 2 years.
We have not been disappointed. The staff are relaxed efficient and friendly.
We have found that our requests have been attended to almost immediately.
True the hotel is old, but is like most old things looking a little tired in places but is not at all dirty nor shabby. The carpeting must run to acres of the stuff so can’t be renewed too frequently especially after 2 lean years.
The staff at all levels are helpful and prompt— no reminders needed.
Some reviews say the garden furniture is fit for the tip, no it has weathered, and functions and is cleaned and unlike some establishments the tables are cleared after use—- no glasses etc left out overnight or for hours on end.

All the furniture in our room matches, is varnished polished and clean and unlike so many period hotels doesn’t look like it comes from a house clearance.
My only gripe is the wine list. All,wines on offer are around £40 per bottle with half litre carafes available at £29 or 250 ml I.e.a large glass at £14+.
I’ve been around a bit and that’s pricey.
It needs to be remembered that at this time there is a shortage of labour in hospitality throughout the country and every other day room servicing is to be expected.
We would come again without a doubt.

Perfectly situated at the southern end of lake Windermere. Lakeside boat pier and Haverthwaite steam railway are just a two minute walk away and both are worth a trip to see the surrounding areas. We had a lakeside terrace view room which was a large room overlooking the lake. It was clean but not immaculate with some stains on the carpet, a small leak in the bathroom by the radiator (which we told reception and I think they looked at it but it still came back) and some of the paint needed attention. Hotel seemed a little tired in places. Food at the hotel was outstanding and plentiful. Small point that we didn’t like was that on the evening that there was a grazing buffet the starters, dessert and cheese were laid out uncovered in open areas for guests to help themselves to but with guests constantly walking past this was a little off putting. Staff were friendly but do agree with previous reviews that it seemed some staff still in training which is great but standard suffered as a result. Spa lovely and massage very relaxing in comfortable surroundings. Room not cleaned every day at the moment due to COVID restrictions which we agreed with completely and were happy with this and when we requested additional waters, tea, coffee, toiletries and towels they were always brought to the room immediately. Parking is in a car park just a minute walk away and a voucher provided by reception to display in the windscreen to ensure free parking which is a nice touch. On a separate note, we were celebrating a special anniversary and it would have been a lovely touch (as is usual for most 4* hotels) if the hotel had left a few chocolates/complimentary drink/welcome note in room on arrival which always makes guests feel special when they first arrive. Overall we would return to hotel in the future as it is situated in a lovely position and we had a truly relaxing few days.

We have been coming to the lakeside hotel for over 25 years and we have never been dissapointed but in the current climate we would like to say a very big special thank you to Marcus and the wonderful team at Lakeside hotel for making us feel safe and comfortable during our recent 4 night stay.
The hotel have gone above and beyond to make sure their residents have a fabulous stay which we did.
The rooms are spotlessley clean and house keeping at present is every other day but you can request any thing at any time if needed, but they do leave you with extra water, tea, coffee, biscuits etc. They also leave you an extra full set of towels if you need them.
The food is excellent, we especially enjoyed the special menu which was changed daily, this is something I would like to suggest the hotel continue with once the pandemic is over.
Thank you once again for a fabulous stay, we will be back soon.

We were greeted at reception by friendly staff and luggage taken to our room. We stayed in a Lakeview Suite (73) for 3 nights. The suite consisted of a spacious bedroom with extra large comfortable bed and separate sitting room. Both rooms overlooked the lake. The bathroom had a bath with over rain shower. A negative point about the shower is firstly, I detest rain showers. Not everyone wants to wash their hair each time they take a shower but also I found it strange that there was no little hand shower in the set up. The bathroom was also very hot but on speaking to reception a delightful engineer appeared and adjusted the radiator for us. There is no fridge in the room but having enquired at reception a small (quiet and efficient) fridge was provided. The hotel is a little bit tired but very clean. It is an old building and one would not expect everything to be in pristine condition. General housekeeping in the rooms is currently carried out every other day but we were happy for someone to come in and tidy up daily and change towels etc. We had booked to stay on a B&B basis but with the hotel being a bit remote we decided to book for dinner on two of our three nights. I would say dinner bookings were made 2-3 weeks before our visit and it was just as well because if we had waited until arrival we would have been very hard pushed to get a table. Dinner was an absolute delight with plenty of choice both from the food menu and wine list. Breakfast was also first class with plenty of choice from hot and cold buffets and food to order. The staff were generally helpful and very pleasant and if there was something you wanted they did their best to meet the request. I did not use the spa myself but my husband had a swim every morning in what he said was an excellent pool. A stone's throw from the hotel is where you get the ferry to Windermere and beyond. This is ideal if you did not want to drive as parking in Windermere is quite difficult. Would we stay here again? I think the answer to that is Yes.

Dear Lakeside

This was our first stay with you and certainly we will be returning again once these strange times improve for everyone.
Everything from checking in, valet parking, our lakeside room, all the staff were friendly and efficient and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The menu was interesting, food well prepared cooked and served with generous portions. The spa was really good. The hotel itself is of traditional decor which suited the hotel, it was exceptionally clean everywhere.
We felt totally Covid safe, at no time did we feel unsettled or unsafe, hand sanitizers, antiseptic wipes were everywhere from the outset.
Sadly we only had 2 days as the hotel then went into tier 4 and had to close so new year eve celebrations or cruise down the lake.

We wish all the staff a very happy and healthy 2021 and hope to see you all in the summer.

Our fifth visit here coincided with several days of heavy rain and widespread floods. On arrival we discovered that the Lake steamers were not running due to high water levels in the lake submerging some of the mooring platforms. This forced us to use the car more than we normally would and some local roads were flooded or closed, so getting around was a challenge, but we did make it to Keswick for a day out. Parking next to the aquarium is free for residents. Hotel staff will park your car for you on arrival if you want.
With the steamers not running, we took a taxi for evening trips to Bowness or Windermere for a meal and drinks (approx. £40 return). We can recommend Iain`s Taxi, very friendly and punctual driver who took us safely through some fairly deep water.
We had 4 nights in an “Ultimate Lakeview Suite” (No 75) and we would highly recommend these rooms. Listed at £445 per night they are not cheap but we had 4 nights for the price of 3. The suite was spacious and comfortable and with the Lake right below the window, views were superb. The large modern bathroom was excellent with lots of fluffy towels, just a strange shower head that directed water down the wall instead of onto the person taking a shower, we tried to adjust this but to no avail.
Current “Covid” related procedures meant that some services were limited, we had to make our own bed on two mornings and breakfast was buffet rather than table service. Breakfast offered a good selection overall but like most buffets some of the hot dishes varied in freshness. Staff generally were all friendly and doing their best in the circumstances. Top marks for their resilience.
The evening meals we took in the hotel were table service but they also do some buffet evenings so wise to check what is applicable when booking. The restaurant menu was not as extensive as before but at a flat rate of £44 for three courses was excellent value. We sampled the Herdwick Lamb, Sea Bass and Salmon main courses and all were excellent. We also particularly liked the cheese selection. Good wines by the glass available at reasonable prices.
The wood panelled “Pub” bar is a bit bleak but service was good and prices were reasonable. Sandwiches, drinks and afternoon tea were also served in the nicer conservatory, where you have a view directly over the lake.
The Spa facilities are excellent (gym, pool, jacuzzi, steam room etc) and you can easily occupy a rainy morning or afternoon there.
Overall, we had a lovely break despite the weather. Minor service shortcomings were understandable with the current labour shortage so we are not deducting points for that.
We would definitely return here, hopefully in better weather.

We stayed here for a few nights when the hotel re-opened last week. The hotel had done everything possible to make sure guests felt safe, including restricting occupancy at the moment to 50% of rooms. Although things were a little different, we had a pleasant, relaxing stay.

We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast tariff and all the food was excellent. The evening menu had a selection where dishes were changed daily and we also took advantage of being able to swap our evening meal for a combined savoury and sweet afternoon tea, which was served between 5 and 6 p.m. This was a wonderful option and I will definitely do this again for one of our meals when we next visit, if still available. It consisted of three savoury items, mini gourmet burger, mini fish and chips and spicy chicken wings, followed by scones and various cakes/sweet items. There was also a vegetarian option which was very well received by the vegetarians with us.

All in all, this was a lovely experience following a long lockdown and felt very safe.
