Alston Youth Hostel is situated on the edge of Alston town high up in the North Pennines (The Roof of England!) In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Pennine Way, Pennine Journey, Isaac's Tea Trail and South Tyne Trail runs right by the side of the hostel and is the first accommodation you reach in Alston after the long walk from Dufton over Cross Fell (the highest point of The Pennine Way). We are also about half way on the ever popular Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route which runs from Whitehaven/Workington to Tynemouth. You are guaranteed a warm welcome and the possibility of seeing red squirrels through our dining room window! Breakfast is available!

Fantastic place to stay. Definitely would recommend. Linda answered all my questions I had before we arrived. Warm and cosy place to stay. Breakfast was 10/10. Cleanliness of the rooms was perfect and storage for bikes was great no messing around. Thank you. Will stop again next

One of the best hostels we've stayed in over the last year. Small, comfortable dorms, clean bathrooms, helpful staff. Very cozy. Breakfast was tasty too. Lots of facilities nearby - even a cottage hospital. Perfect spot for exploring the Pennines.

Thank you for leaving such a lovely review and for recommending us to others. People & groups doing the C2C are a big part of our business so it's always nice to know we are getting it right from bike storage to fueling you up with a good breakfast ready for the next leg! Many thanks and hope you visit us again some day! It is a great area to do some more leisurely cycling too!

Thank you joeriddle for your very kind review! We are very happy to know that your group enjoyed their stay. We like to take care of cyclists after a strenuous C2C ride as the assent and descent from Hartside is often underestimated! The red squirrels are always a bonus at breakfast too so glad they put in an appearance for you!! Hope you can all come back again one day!

We spent two nights here. The staff were amazing and helpful in all respects. We enjoyed the cooked breakfasts watching out for the red squirrels. The hostel is perfectly located for walking or cycling around the area. We went to Hadrian’s wall and really enjoyed ourselves.
