I booked this with expedia and called to verify the property was still open. Two of their agents said it was closed and they moved me to another hotel. The hotel website is dark. I didn't want to drive 4 hours to the middle of no where and find a closed hotel

We tarted our South Africa holiday by stating 3 nghts at amaka Safari lodge. After a long journey we were warmly greeted and well looked after by the lovely family who are managing the lodge. The food was excellent, the most comf bed we have ever slept in, relaxed game drives and th surprise of seeing giraffes, impla, zebras and even rhino in the lodge garden. This is a new venture and deserves to have every success. We would love to visit again and thoroughly recommend to others. The surrounding area is steeped in military history so if this is also yr interest you can combine its seeing the animals.

It's not often that I will review a place on TA, but every now and then I come across something exceptional that warrants it.

Amaka Private Game Reserve is a little nugget tucked away near Colenso in KZN. It offers a truly authentic bush experience without travelling hours and hours. The Reserve is beautifully kept, the animals happy and healthy. There is very little that can beat having an afternoon beer while going for a game drive, or waking up in the morning and sharing your coffee with a couple of Rhinos.

The staff were professional, friendly, and extremely accommodating. The facilities were pristine, and the food was simply out of this world! I am a fussy eater but only the finest cuts were used.

In short, a huge thank you to the lovely family at Amaka, your enthusiasm is infectious, I can't wait to see you again sometime soon!
