An attractive place inside and out, although the one-way system was not being properly enforced while we were there. Service overall was slow but the staff were friendly and honest - they promptly informed us that certain dishes were 'off', and that one of the guest ales remained too cloudy to serve. My substiture lamb shank was melt-off-the bone tasty and the vegetables, even the dreaded kale, more than acceptable. However, the meat in my partner's steak and ale piewas definitely on the chewy side - I confirmed this by trying a couple of pieces! The portions were large enough for us to forgo our customary desserts Quite busy by the time we left so obviously popular.
Decided to treat ourselves after ano lockdown. Lots of measures in place for COVID. We both had chilli prawns and chorizo to start , prawns were perfectly cooked and delicious. I had the mussels for main and the portion was huge! I couldn’t finish them all despite them being delicious. My husband had the Indian burger which was huge too and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was attentive and friendly. Lovely evening.
Our second superb delivery this week. The best roast ever... thank you😀😀 lovely food great portions and great cheese board. We will be ordering again soon and will certainly visit again too. Delivery is just as good as eating in.
First time back in a few years and was really pleased we did The staff all really friendly lots of Covid measures, nice selection of brunch items Food came fresh and hot very large portions... we had ciabattas with skin on fries delicious Highly recommend and will def be back
I have been here three weeks in a row now. The service is excellent, servers very attentive. Main meals are generous and on the whole good. The mushroom risotto leaves a lot to be desired but everything else has always been of a good standard. Now for the low point. What really needs work are the desserts and digestifs. We had to send desserts back on every visit. The treacle sponge was cold in the middle with a stingy portion of custard. The rice pudding was swimming in grease. The pineapple upside down crumble was pale, unappetising and dry (pineapple was hard and looked like an after thought). The chocolate Sunday was tiny and over priced. The eton mess doesn’t come with strawberries as advertised but instead mixed berries (3 weeks in a row). The cheese board was very generous with cheese but only had 5 crackers for two people sharing. The digestifs choice was never available. I think this side of the menu really needs more thought. Desserts should be a real treat but instead here they are over priced and below average and they really let this place down.…
