Thornbay is situated at Doringbaai close to Strandfontein. The rooms have a sea view, the owners are very helpful and the unit was clean. We arrived during the east wind, where there was a lot of sand, but they swept the place and made us feel welcome and comfortable. It was extremely hot and windy and all that was missing was a fan or aircon to cool down.

Beautifully situated on the "cliff" overlooking the Doringbaai bay, these rooms are very comfortable and well equipped for the self-catering traveler. Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy walk to the cliff trail and Fryer's Cove winery/restaurant, a must-visit spot when you are in Doringbaai. Also drop in on the fish shop (same owner, behind the accommodation) and be surprised at all you can buy there!

Beyond expectations accommodation. Stayed in Mackerel, upstairs with, as others have mentioned, view over the ocean and busyish small harbour where Fryers Cove winery, restaurant is situated. Very picturesque. Stunning sunsets Lovely self catering flat, spacious, well equipped and super welcoming hosts, Michelle and Janine. We left an item behind and were phoned about it within minutes snd it was kept for us till we were able to pick it up on our return trip. Thornbay itself was a lovely night's stopover. We stayed for one night in the Barracuda flatlet in January-23. It was sort of basic, but very neat and clean with all the necessities in place. Had an evening braai on the balcony and admired the sunset. The owners brought us a hearty English breakfast in the morning and subsequently offered us a ride to the nearby airstrip. Admirable service mindedness! Great place to stay!

A comfortable unit with sea views, Thornbay is perfect for a short stay. Cooking facilities include a 2 plate hob and a microwave oven. Enough cutlery and crockery is provided for self-catering. Local restaurants were closed due to covid restrictions.

Thornbay accommodation offers excellent accommodation just a stones throw from the sea. The facility is clean and well equipped for self catering. Friendly reception. Thornbay comes highly recommended.

This was an awesome self-catering stay. Very spacious accommodation and the view was to die for. It was value for money and we like the quietness of the area. We saw some of the most spectacular sunsets over the ocean. The friendliness and helpfulness of the local people is something one do not encounter everywhere anymore.

What a jewel of a place with the most beautiful view. Walking distance from everything. Friendliest staff that orientated the guests wrt the town and what it can offer. Excellent rooms with all you might need. Definitely a go back to place for sure!!!

"I think the units on the upper level will have better views and more privacy, but we stayed in the Yellowtail and it was very well equiped and beautifully decorated."
