Experience real southern hospitality at the Outer Banks' only historic B&B. A deluxe continental breakfast with a "hot" dish is served each morning. Our rooms are as individual as our guests. Each has a private bath with fluffy towels on a heated towel bar and English toiletries. Television, telephone, and refrigerator are standard in each room. Luxury rooms boast wet bars and kitchenettes, and some have Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs, sitting rooms or private screened porches.

Lovely staff. Lush grounds filled with exotic plants and outsider art. There are peace & rainbow flags by the pool that set the tone. A generous happy hour with snacks and nice wines. Plenty of free bikes to tool around on. Beach umbrellas & chairs to grab on your way to the

We spent four days at The First Colony Inn during our recent vacation. Its a quiet, attractive, restful experience. It's an older building with original, yet updated rooms. Don't expect sleek chrome and granite. Do expect clean comfort. This inn has everything to recommend

Though right off the main highway, it's set far enough back and surrounded by large grounds with beautiful flower beds, even in Nov., that you feel secluded. Loved the cozy feel, clean, comfy rooms, large windows, wrap around porches with rocking chairs, breakfasts and afternoon

First Colony Inn offers the perfect spot for a quick visit to the Outer Banks. When we arrived the office personnel helped us with our luggage and carried it to our room. The breakfast each morning was special. We stayed there four mornings and did not have a repeat. The

Had a wonderful time hanging out at this inn. The service was excellent. Had some home-made brownies and cheap wine during the afternoon social and breakfast was also good and filling. The best part of the inn is the outdoor space. We hung out on the various chairs and nooks on

How long is the walk to the beach? Can we bring our own beach equipment?
The beach is across the street. Once you walk out off the back deck of the inn, you walk across a wide grassy lawn to the street, then you go across the 2 lane street to their boardwalk which takes you over the dunes and down to the beach. There are about 8 steps down. It may be a 6 minute walk. I think if you have a rolling cart it would be much easier. But you can carry your beach goodies. Not so far, but you'll be glad you've arrived, if you load is heavy.

Yes, there are rooms with daybeds and trundle beds and our innkeepers both have children who frequently play in the yard and pool. We do not get complaints about from other guests when we do have small children at the inn. They will love the pool and as we have a BIG yard they can run around in. Bring them!

"If you don't like stairs stay on the first floor but the views up top are worth the stairs."
"Second floor, corner room was great. Ocean side is great, but you also won't be disappointed in a bay side room."
