While the rooms are generally appreciated for being clean and adequately equipped, some reviewers point out that the decor could use updating and maintenance might be improved. Fenwick Islander Motel is located a few blocks north of Ocean City, MD, but it is so peaceful and relaxing. The beach is quiet and practically across the street. It is not crowded and there are life guards on duty. The beach is safe and very convenient to reach from the motel. The motel itself is situated on the main road (Delaware State Route 1) and is within walking distance of everything that you could want or need - restaurants, souvenirs, bike rentals, convenience stores, ice cream parlors, etc. If you get a room in the back your room will overlook the canal, which is a very peaceful and pleasant view from your balcony.

I stayed in a king bedroom on the third floor. The bed was extremely comfortable and relaxing. The pillows were soft, fluffy, and amazing. The room included a desk/vanity in front of a mirror, a table with a lamp (that also included USB charging ports), a pull-out sofa with pillows, a clock (that also included USB charging ports), a nightstand, plenty of storage in the form of a dresser and a closet, and also a kitchenette and a bathroom.

The bathroom was very clean and included bar soap and shampoo. The shampoo said it was shampoo and conditioner combined, but I didn't find it to contain any conditioner. Consider bringing your own conditioner if your hair needs it. The water pressure felt a little weak to me, but mostly it was fine, so that might just be personal preference or the result of being on the third floor.

The kitchenette contained a shelf for storage, a kitchen sink, a coffee maker and various coffee packets, a microwave, and a small fridge with a very tiny freezer included. Plastic cups were also included and wrapped individually, which I liked. If you need any kind of silverware, plates, etc., those are not provided, but they are probably easily accessible at the convenience store across the street.

The motel has a swimming pool that is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is a small pool but I found it to be a nice size. The shallow end is 3 feet deep and the deep end is 6 feet deep. The area around the pool has outdoor tables, chairs, and lounge chairs.

The motel provides convenient parking and also has vending machines.

The only downside was that the adjoining rooms are not soundproof at all. I heard every word of my neighbors' conversations, which I think is a violation of their privacy. I don't know if non-connected rooms are available or not, but if so, be sure to ask for one if you don't want to be overheard.

Many positives about this hotel but after we left and checked our credit card they charged two additional charges. They have since reversed the one that they said we damaged their tub with our purple hair dye. It was like that when we got there,
we're an older couple with gray hair not purple. But they charged us $50 for damages.
Then the manager decided to charge us an additional amount because their website allowed us to book our night at an AARP rate even though it was the weekend. They took that full payment in advance and said we were paid in full. Later when he discovered that the website let a rate go through that it shouldn't have he charged our credit card an additional amount. We probably would not have booked our night here at the increased rate. We stayed here because of the discounted rate they advertised. I believe they have since corrected this on their website though they will not refund us the additional charge even though it was an error on their part.
I very seldom write reviews. Before I had seen our credit card, I had actually written a positive review about this hotel. But I can no longer refer people to stay here and advise you to watch your credit card if you choose to stay here.

We were a little nervous due to comments on their facebook page. The rooms matched the pictures on booking.com (we ultimately booked directly with the property). We had a King efficiency with a king bed and sofa bed. We liked the extra space when the sofa bed was folded up. The room had a kitchen space which included a small fridge, microwave, sink, and coffee maker. The room was clean, and had newly installed laminate floors. The pool look newly refurbished as well. The staff was welcoming. We enjoyed our 2-night stay. We had a unit facing the ocean which meant the balcony was spacing Route 1. We chose the ocean side for the morning sun. In hindsight, the bay side would have been a little quieter when opening the door to the balcony.

Paid extra for a water view room that the website states was updated in 2018. The room looked nothing like the photo and was the same dated carpet and furniture as the other rooms in the hotel. Front desk clerk's response was: "we what do you expect me to do about it". Pathetic. Rooms smell like ashtrays from smokers too

The only good thing about this place is that it's right across the street from the beach. Nothing else about it is worth the price. If you can afford to stay in a condo or house, I would spend the money and do that. No house keeping service, towels are not big enough for adults and they are cheap and gross, the bathroom tub was disgusting, one our mattresses was broken and they said they can't get a new one right now but yet it cost is $800 to stay there for 4 nights. You can get a cheap but comfortable mattress on Amazon for $200.

The location and price of the Fenwick Islander makes this a great place to stay for a short stay in Fenwick. Also, the app worked fairly well for check-in. The lobby has been updated nicely and the pool was already open. The room was clean although it showed signs of wear. It was still a comfortable room perfect for a weekend getaway.

Clean, nice sized rooms. You can see the ocean from the third floor if you have a street side room, & the bay from the other side. Clean pool, pleasant staff, outdoor showers and bathrooms. Everything was freshly painted for the season. It is so close to ocean (a mere block) and the area is so much quieter than Rehoboth. Also, there are so many food stores and shopping nearby, within walking distance. Plenty of parking in the motel lot. If you are down there for the car shows, the street side rooms have great views from the balcony from all floors. One catch; there are no elevators, so keep that in mind when booking. It was no problem for us. Very happy with our stay!

Overall, my stay was great. The entire staff is great and very helpful. We have already booked our room for our 2023 trip. Great location and the Fenwick Islander is our go-to-place. The location is great, the beach is right across the road, we always get a water view room and it is a beautiful view. The Islander is centrally located and everything you would need is within walking distance.

Close proximity to the beach, friendly staff, and clean rooms. We enjoy visiting the Fenwick Islander at least once a year! The motel is a short drive to the other DE beach towns…Bethany, Rehoboth, Lewes and Dewey, and also right on the OCMD line, so it’s the perfect location for shopping, dining, bar hopping, etc. We look forward to returning next year!

This was the first and the last visit that I will ever make to this motel. I don't even want to give them a rating (but I have to in order to post this). Apparently one of our room reservations was mysteriously cancelled. Both the owner and Karen flipped flopped and blamed the internet (booking.com) or us for the cancellation! They did not take any responsibility for this "mysterious" cancellation. Nor did they show any sympathy for the mistake, considering a part of our party was left without a room! They tried to redeem themselves by reserving a room for us, but did not even tell us that they did that! By then, several hundred dollars were already spent to reserve another room at another location. Their customer service and communication with not only us but (what became clear) amongst themselves lacked and was very disorganized. We asked to speak to the manager several times and were given the run around as we were told different stories by Rose and Karen. I will say that Rose was extremely sympathetic and expressed it. Unfortunately, Karen did not have that same demeanor and customer service courtesy. She was absolutely rude. Karen, you may have good reviews, but let's see if those stars were due to challenging situations that you amicably and gracefully solved! Anyone can receive a great review when things roll smoothly. If you are having a bad day, take off work. You work in a profession that relies on your face and attitude being a pleasant one. On another note---it's not a good thing when you throw your coworkers under the bus to make yourself look good! Lies will catch up to you and they evidently did that day. Their customer service skills need a lot of work. Yes it's an easy walk to the beach but so are the other hotels/motels/beach houses in the area that I would recommend you take a look at...not here.

Fenwick Island Delaware is the southern most city on the coast before you reach Ocean City Maryland. It is a great little place to visit.
