Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge was a pleasant surprise! My last lodging in Bwindi Imprentable National Park was okay, but not great. The staff at Lake Mulehe was very pleasant and helpful, the chef and his staff do fabulous magic with dinners and desserts, the individual cottages are well-appointed and I slept like a baby. Hot water (showers) and the electricity was not always reliable but enough to do what needed to be done. (I have to remind myself and my clients that we are in a rainforest on the side of a mountain!)

The most memorable aspect of staying at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge by far was the view of the Uganda landscape and Lake Mulehe. I intend to return later this year.

I stayed at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge the night before doing gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. I absolutely loved my stay here and only regret that it wasn’t longer! The staff were so friendly, food was great and dinner was accompanied by incredible views out over the lake watching the sun set. Each of the lodges is named after one of the gorilla families and has its own private setting in the trees with views of Lake Mulehe. The lodges are beautifully decorated and I felt completely relaxed as soon as I arrived, and I was delighted to find a hot water bottle in my bed when I returned to my lodge after dinner! It was quite a long drive to the National Park in the morning, but absolutely worth the slightly earlier wake up call.

Last December we visited for the third time the region of Kisoro, with Lake Mutanda is one of our favorite areas of Uganda.

Third time and third different accommodation ... this time we chose Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge : it was a great choice and we will definitely be back again.
We were warmly welcomed. The bungalow and bathroom are spacious and very clean. We found a basket full of fresh fruit. The beds were very comfortable and we really slept well with a hot water bottle for extra warmth. Electricity and hot water always available 24h. The rooms are at different levels on the hillside, between the main house and the bungalows the path can be a bit steep. From the bungalow you can go directly to the lake and to the vegetable gardens. Where with a little luck you can see several birds.
Internet has always worked in the lobby and in the restaurant.

A special compliment we have to do it to the chef: quality food and great choice of courses in the menu , all was Delicious !

From here you can do gorilla trekking and beautiful panoramic tours to Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe or go to the town of Kisoro. The Kisoro market is spectacular. Years ago we managed to cross the border with the Congo for a few hours (after long discussions) and we were able to visit the small and poor local market

Bravo to all the staff

We stayed at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge in February during our mountain gorilla safari. The lodge is organized with a large lodge on the hilltop and small cottages arranged down the hillside. Each cottage has a balcony with a view of Lake Mulehe and there is a path down to the lakeside with a dock. The architecture is rough-hewn wood and stone for an attractive, rustic appearance overall.

The staff were very attentive from check-in, to our pre-dawn safari departure, to our safari return when they cleaned our shoes and other muddy gear (as a courtesy and also to keep the lodge sparkling clean.

We were contemplating if we should rate the lodge with three or four stars. The friendly staff and the beautiful setting deserve four. The lack of cleanliness and the food tend to three. Our dirty towel, that we had placed on the floor for replacement was simply put back on the rack, the sundeck by the lake is in a miserable state (and full of bird droppings). Food is ok, breakfast sort of ok, some tables very dimly lit, however.
The rooms are beautiful, the bathroom might have been cleaner and drinking water was not replaced.
A nice aspect to be mentioned is that you can wash your hands and get your boots clean right upon arrival.

We were greeted at the door with warm water and towels to wash our hands and freshen up after a long drive and a glass of fresh squeezed juice. Every meal we ate was delicious and the chef provided multiple options to choose from for each course. When we returned from our gorilla trekking, the staff was waiting with a clean pair of shoes to wear around the lodge as they promptly cleaned our trekking boots. I was excited that this lodge is powered by solar energy (and has a back-up generator, if needed)! As the first lodge of our trip, the staff and accommodations set the bar high for the rest of our trip!

Most, if not all, people who stay here come to see the gorillas, the starting point for which is about an hour away. So people want to get up early after a good night’s sleep, which will entail going to sleep early. Regrettably someone has decided that each chalet should have a bright light shining on the bedroom window and that this light should be controlled from the main building. So when you find too much light in your room, you have to get dressed and walk up all the steps to reception to ask them to please turn the light off. As it was raining we couldn’t be bothered, but suffered a delay in getting to sleep as a result. Next evening we requested that the light be turned off and we’re told it would be done in five minutes, to give us time to return to the chalet. They then forgot! Wouldn’t it be easier to put the light control in the chalet?
Another gripe is that a male member of staff spoke loudly near our chalet shortly after we’d got to sleep, presumably taking a client to their room. Shouldn’t they be trained to speak quietly at night? He woke us both up the night before the gorilla trek.
Having said this, the staff were lovely, friendly, helpful, the chef great fun and the ambience super.
Views over the lake, constantly changing with the clouds and sun, we’re worthy of Switzerland or Como.
Just get those lights fixed and you’ll be perfect!

We had an amazing stay at Lake Mulehe and wish we were there longer. The staff is friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed our meals and they kindly packed us lunch for our Gorilla Trek. The rooms were comfortable and they did a turndown service in the evenings with hot water bottles and setting up the mosquito nets so we would have a nice rest. My pants got dirty from the Gorilla trek, so I had washed my pants and hung them up to dry in the bathroom. Evelyn even took the time to put them out in the sun so they would dry faster. Outstanding service. Would highly recommend.

We spent two nights at the lodge while visiting Bwindi for gorilla tracking. The first thing that jumped out was how welcoming and caring the staff was upon our arrival. The lodge is situated on the lakeside with rooms overlooking the lake and offering direct access to it. The rooms were kept clean and full of complementary goods and beverages throughout our stay. The food was always freshly prepared, and served on time, however some dishes were better than others. I highly recommend this lodge to all the people that want to feel cared for and spoiled by their wonderful staff!

I would definitely recommend this fantastic lodge set beside the gorgeous lake in stunning grounds packed with birds and wildlife. Each lodge is well equipped and every evening the bed is turned down with a hot water bottle. Evelyn the housekeeper is brilliant and cleaned our walking boots after every trek - they looked like new afterwards. The welcome and hospitality of the team including Jonas and Walter was first class. The food cooked by Chef Ambrose and team was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Whilst fantastic (one of the very best I stayed in during my 3-years in East Africa), the lodge will not arrange gorilla permits - you need to do that through a safari company. I personally used Gorillabookings who are a genuine company.
