Zanzibar Palace Hotel is a luxurious nine-room boutique hotel located right in the heart of Stone Town (a Unesco World Heritage site). It is independently owned and is an ideal home to explore and experience all the beauties of this magical town and Island. Zanzibar's rich history is integrated throughout the hotel with Arabian, Indian and English designs, in combination with all modern comfort (AC, free WiFi, flatscreen TVs, etc). Each room/suite has its own unique decor with locally originated antique pieces of furniture, magical beds, colourful silks, etc. Room rates for every purse definitely make this a place to stay. As you walk through the front door, you notice the soft aqua-blue interior colours along with the antique furniture. You are immediately put into a state of calm and relaxation.

We stayed for a couple nights at Zanzibar Palace Hotel during our East Africa visit recently. Daniela, the owner, was a wonderful host at this charming masterpiece in the heart of Stone Town. Minutes from the local markets, a splendid list of recommended activities which the hotel will arrange, and delicious food all a phone call away with their attentive staff. This is the kind of place that makes you remember you are in Africa, but then reminds you that Africa can be a luxurious experience.
We were shown to a nice Arabic themed room, complete with a very comfortable and charismatic bed, well cleaned and air conditioned room that included a veranda overlooking the narrow and bustling streets of Stone Town. Our host was helpful in giving us a map and outlining suggested places to visit and tours that would satisfy our experience in our short time in this town. Daniela was one of the best hosts in the world that I've had, and no request was too big or small for her. They also arrange on site massage treatments that me and my girlfriend enjoyed so much that we booked 2 days in a row.
Stone Town itself was our favorite city that we visited while on holiday. We went to Africa for safari and diving, but with our schedule we were glad to be able to squeeze in this charming area. The locals markets and in particular the slave monument and art installation was impressive to see. The citizens here are quick to smile and visit with you, should you just smile first and give a warm 'jambo!' If you ever find yourself considering visiting Stone Town, please stay with Daniela at Zanzibar Palace Hotel. She will make sure that you enjoy your stay to the fullest in one of her perfectly suited rooms to whatever your travel style.

Thanks Daniela, we hope to see you again!

Wow: what great and extensive feedback: we, the team, do all our best to offer the best experience in Stone Town, both inside our hotel with its authentic atmosphere, and outside in town! Mostly, I’m happy you enjoyed town so much: many people traveling to Zanzibar are mostly interested in the beach, but a couple of nights in Stone Town definitely add to the experience, to discover this beautiful and unique place, and its distinctive architecture and style, its bazaars, its alleys with the famous doors, and its nightlife. Thank you again and all the best! Daniela and the Team

This was a great base from which to explore Stone Town. Staff were very welcoming and efficient. We were in the room Sultana on the second floor, ornately decorated with a shower facing the bed (not for the inhibited!). Beware, also, of the incredibly steep staircase!

We took a family vacation to Tanzania- first on safari, then on the beach in Zanzibar, ending in Stone Town. We generally don't like big chain hotels and prefer smaller places that have a more authentic feel. Our trip organizer recommended the Zanzibar Palace Hotel and we were not disappointed. After a crazy drive from the beach resort, we entered into the heart of Stone Town and I must say I was a bit wary as our driver zig zagged down the dusty, narrow streets. However, when we arrived at the hotel it was just what we were looking for. It is tucked away on a quiet corner of an otherwise bustling area. The hotel was full but Daniela was at the the front desk to welcome us and she set up a walking tour with a local guide. Daniela has lived in Stone Town for years and was able to recommend great walks and restaurants for us. She was happy to spend time talking to her guests and gave us a brief history of the city. The lobby and rooms were immaculate, fantastic, spacious and colorful. Our 3 girls shared a huge room . Ours had a small balcony overlooking the street. We had coffee delivered to our room the first morning and it was delightful to sit outside and watch the action on the street. Both rooms had beautiful soaking tubs. We were there New Years Eve and the streets were very noisy all day yet our street facing room was quiet all night.

This is definitely not a cookie cutter chain. If you are looking for a place with local charm and a terrific, friendly, knowledgeable staff I highly recommend that you stay at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel.

Dear Lisa, Wow: thank you so much for taking to time of writing this great review. We are all happy that you and your lovely family enjoyed your stay at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel and the visit to Stone Town. One the characteristics of our street is that it is in the old town and very lively during the day, however it’s still quiet at night. We hope one day you’ll come back to visit us, Daniela and the Team

My 12 year old daughter and I visited Zanzibar in August 2022 from San Diego, California, and had never been to the country or Stonetown before and had a bit of culture shock to work thru. We checked into the Zanzibar Palace Hotel and it’s like all of our homesickness and worries evaporated. The staff were so incredibly caring, warm, personable, and helpful… getting to know us personally, checking that our tour guides were arriving on time, our meals were exactly as we liked them, our umbrellas were ready, our directions around town were clear…. They treated us like family. Which being so far from home in a new place with my daughter was exactly what I needed at the time. We stayed in one gorgeous and charming room on the very top floor, with an open air bathroom overlooking the city. Every detail of hospitality had been thought of. The room was clean, fresh, so authentically traditional, featuring design elements from all the cultures from the past that made Zanzibar so special. We ended up having to expand our stay from 2 nights to 5! And Daniela, the hotel owner, could not have been more accommodating. We ended up asking her to join us for a meal her and there between welcoming new arriving guests… we enjoyed her wonderful company and stories of her travels and the hotel itself. Before we departed, my daughter put a pin on the lobby map, adding to the sea of other traveler’s pins… all those lucky enough to have spent a little time within the walls of the magical Zanzibar Palace Hotel!

Wow, Erika: thank you so much for finding the time of writing such a great review. Mostly, I’m happy the team and I were able to make you and your daughter enjoy Stone Town. I understand the first impact can be a bit of a shock, but once you learn to know it, Stone Town is really a cool place, which deserves a few days at least, as you discovered yourself. And at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel, we all do our best for our guests to get the most out of their visit, also providing a nice environment after a day of exploring. It was so pleasant talking with you and your daughter: thanks also for inviting me to share our experience, and to share yours!

My husband and I stayed in the top floor room in February 2020. It was one of the most special places I've ever stayed!! The bedroom has a bed fit for royalty, with a lovely balcony overlooking the winding ally ways of Stone Town. Off the bedroom is a set of stairs leading to the roof top bathroom with open air views of the ocean as well as the beautiful city. The bathtub is big enough for a pool party, and we found ourselves spending quite a bit of time up there.
Due to the ideal location of the hotel, we were able to go out for walks around the city, and easily stop back into our room to freshen up before continuing our adventures. In the heat of the day, it made such a difference to be able to have our room close by to recharge.
I would come back just for the room, but to make matters even better, the entire staff was AMAZING! They felt like friends by the time we left! We knew them all by name, and truly felt like we had forged real relationships.
After we had left and continued our travels, we found ourselves back in Stone Town for the afternoon while waiting for a boat to take us to another island. We went back to visit everyone at the Palace Hotel and it was like a reunion with friends! They were all so kind, and so happy to see us.
Little things like that make all the difference when traveling. I can not recommend this place enough.

Knowing some of Stone Town as I do, had been determined to take my wife there for a short vacation and chose this Hotel to experience the real Zanzibar and that’s just what we got. A traditional Stone Town building tucked away in the narrow streets steeped in history and culture from times past. The hotel is owned and ran by a an ex corporate marketeer Daniella, determined to use her past experience to ensure a memorable experience for her guests. The Hotel is a tribute to history and yet has all the modern things we travellers seek these days such as efficient social media connection etc. The rooms are unique and themed and ours was “Vijani” meaning green and was more of an apartment style than all in one room. The cleanliness is impeccable, the staff friendly and attentive so, if you’re looking to get away into old Stone Town then try this Hotel.
We took breakfast which, was included and perfectly adequate to set you up for the day and lunch and dinner is available but, we did not try.

What a wonderful stay in Stonetown. Daniela has reached out to me when I booked to offer a car service from the airport and I knew from there that we would be well taken care of. We stayed in the Dunia (top suite) with a balcony that offered a panoramic view of the city. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and ample living space. We booked all of our excursions through the hotel and Daniela’s recommendations were spot on. We loved the spice plantation tour, and the visit to prison Island to meet the tortoise. We are also connected with a local guide who brought us on a private tour of the city. Food and service were spectacular and I would highly recommend this hotel for its unique charm, boutique experience right in the middle of the action!

Dear Owenie, Thank you for such a complete and great feedback! We’re very happy you enjoyed your stay in Stone Town and all the activities: there is indeed plenty of things to do, even if I know that when you choose suite Dunia, you also want to enjoy your private sun-deck. These are difficult times, but words like yours make us feel optimistic about the future and fight even harder so that more and more people will enjoy the beauties of Stone Town. Stay safe! It is a beautiful boutique hotel located in a perfect area of the town. It is safe and you can reach any touristic landmark in less than 10 mins walk. The rooms have a unique character, reflecting the interesting mixture of cultural styles typical of Zanzibar. I stayed on the first floor, in a gorgeous, big and comfortable blue room with balcony.
There is also a lovely restaurant which serves a wide range of local and international dishes. Daniela, the owner, did her best to accommodate my allergies and find products that are not easily available on the island. Thank you!
I had a lovely stay, I highly recommend this hotel!

Since our flights were cancelled from Kenya, we had to quickly reschedule our flight from Zanzibar to exit Tanzania. Based on other reviews on trip advisor we quickly got in touch with Daniella who got us best budget family room on a day’s short notice. She also helped us by arranging a tour guide to take us through stone town and explore prison Island (kids did snorkeling too). Although we had checked out from the hotel, she was so accommodating to keep our bags and arranged a room for us to shower and fresh up before we took a flight! The rooms were clean and comfortable. Amazing breakfast and lunch. Daniella and her team knows how to take care of their guests.

We stayed at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel in Stone Town, Zanzibar and had an excellent time! The hotel's setup and decor is authentically Swahili, with large rooms, carved wooden doors, and fixtures all in keeping with the overall experience. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Daniela, and front desk manager. They offered us good advice on what to see and do in Stone Town. The restaurant downstairs was easily accessible and the food was very good. The room we stayed in had a separate entry area, bedroom, and bathroom. The heat can be a concern for visitors. The air conditioning and fans in the room were sufficient to keep us comfortable. The hotel location was fantastic, as it is very close to many of the major sites...assuming you can find your way through the narrow, maze-like streets and alleys. Overall, I highly recommend the Zanzibar Palace Hotel!

We know that it’s not always possible to arrive at the hotel during normal check in hours. In line with our renowned high service and standards, our hotel has a 24 hour front desk. You can rest easy in the knowledge that, no matter what time you check in, someone will be there to greet you with a warm smile.
