For anyone seeking a true African wilderness experience, a visit to Ruaha National Park is essential. One of Tanzania's wildest parks, Ruaha can only be described as a true unspoiled natural wilderness. Superbly isolated right in the heart of the Ruaha National Park lies Jongomero on the banks of a seasonal sand river which bears the same name. Blending in beautifully with its surroundings the camp is tucked away among some shady riverine vegetation not far from permanent water therefore attracting a large amount of animals into the camp area. Being the only camp situated in this area of the park ensures unmatched privacy and a true wilderness experience. The camp is made up of 8 stunning suites, spaced out along the Jongomero sandriver.

We have just returned from four nights at Jongo. An excellent experience at a unique isolated camp, superbly run by Theo and Mike. Great team work from everyone in camp, and nothing was too much trouble – including providing gluten-free food. Superb facilities, and we loved the setting on the Jonga river. The tents are luxurious, and very well-equipped. Everything was green and lush in the wet season, and we were surrounded by extensive butterflies and birds – and saw plenty of larger game animals of course, too. Travel to and from Dar was very smooth, and making sure the Jongo landing strip was clear of animals before the flight could land was a definitely highlight. Thank you to all the staff, especially our guide, Lambert.

We have been to many safari camps and lodges and can claim that Jongomero is among the Top Five on our list. First of all let us start with the location. Ruaha National Park in Southern Tanzania is already quite unknown in comparison to Serengeti or Ngorongoro in the North and therefore fewer tourists find their way to Ruaha. On top of that Jongomero Camp lies in the most remote corner of the national park, all alone with no other camp or civilisation around. The luxurious tents all lie lined up along the dry riverbed and gave us amazing views. After arrival we were picked up by our driver in an open vehicle and after about 5 minutes drive we were greeted by the amazing amazing staff with a song, wet towels and a fresh welcome drink.

Every day we were taken o a morning and afternoon game drive through the beautiful National Park and felt alone in the nature with no-one around but the African wildlife! Our highlights definitely were the early morning coffee brought into our tent and the private buch breakfast during the game drive together with our driver. We will also never forget the first night where dinner was served in the dry river bed surrounded by fire torches and the sound of lions and hyenas. If you are curious about our experience visit our website where we have several videos.

We have stayed in Jongomero for 3 nights during our honeymoon trip and we loved it a lot! Jongomero offers an amazing landscape and nature combined with hospitality. We had a private romantic candle light dinner - what a great surprise! Chef David is a master of his profession, he creates great meals better than many restaurants at home.

Because of the location of Jongomero, we never met any cars from other camps and experienced the contact to the animals in a very intimate way. Meeting the elephants was beyond description! Furthermore we had quite much fun with our guide Lambert who is a real expert in reading tracks and finding animals in the thick green bush.

Everyone of the staff was very attentive and we heard so many interesting and funny stories. All in all: we felt as a part of a big family!

Our recent stay at Jongomero Camp was an absolute treasure, an experience like no other. If you're seeking an authentic African safari, untouched by mass tourism and noise, then this is the place for you. Nestled in a remote and pristine location, Jongomero Camp is the sole presence in the area, creating an unparalleled sense of seclusion and connection with nature. During our time there, we were fortunate enough to have Vincent as our guide, who made our journey even more exceptional.

Beyond the stunning surroundings, the camp itself is a luxurious gem seamlessly integrated into the natural environment. The accommodations are not only extremely comfortable but also thoughtfully designed to offer breathtaking views of the Jongomero River. It's a true delight to wake up to the sight of animals occasionally strolling by. The common facilities also deserve a special mention – they are tastefully done and enhance the overall experience.

The camp's staff, without a doubt, deserves a perfect 10. From the warm greetings upon arrival to the impeccable service throughout our stay, they made us feel like royalty. The gastronomic experience was particularly outstanding. The chef's culinary skills are truly remarkable, and each meal provided – from breakfast to dinner – was of the highest quality. Anticipating the culinary delights became a highlight of our day!

I can only hope that I have the chance to return to this magnificent place someday. Jongomero Camp offers a rare and unforgettable opportunity to reconnect with nature, unwind in luxury, and savor the essence of an authentic African safari. I'm already looking forward to the day I can revisit this hidden paradise!

Jongomero lodge and its wonderful team are providing a unique, romantic and luxury experience of the beautiful Ruaha National park.
The lodge is located in the Southern part of the park far away from any other lodge, but just 5 min from an own airstrip (at least two airlines provide connection with Dar Ee Salam). The small number of guests and remote location provides a very exclusive and unique experience of the park and its wildlife.
We spent 4 nights at the lodge, saw lions 5 times and Cheetah twice. There are lots of other mammals incl. giraffe, zebra, impala, hippos, baboons, velvet monkeys etc., but also a very large variety of birds incl. many eagles, storks, vultures and even giant owls.
Our guide (Lambert) and the 3 other guides were very experienced and did a fabulous job to spot and explain wildlife.
The lodge itself is very beautiful in every little detail. Wonderful interior design of luxury tents and building, see photos enclosed, but also a beautiful location right at the Jongomero riverbed which attracts wildlife to the lodge. Meals are served at the lodge, but also at wonderful spots during the game drives. The service of the entire team is outstanding!
We loved the food: great variety, very delicious and reasonably healthy. Our personal „Michelin Star“ for the lunch at the lodge with creative excellent salads and refreshing other dishes. The variety and quality of drinks is also great. The team provides full flexibility regarding the schedule of games drives and meals. We did two games dives per day when we stayed in the Southern part of the park, but we also dis a full day safari to the Northern part of the park which is a great complement to experience. There is laundry service too and the internet connection at the lodge is very good while there is no 3G/4G coverage in the Southern part of the park.
This lodge is a fantastic place for nature lovers who want an exclusive relaxed experience. There is only one issue during the dry season: many Tse Tse flies during game drives (not at the lodge). You should wear long sleeve shirts and long trousers and avoid blue and black color as these flies love these colors.
We had a fantastic time at Jongomero! Thank you very much to the entire team!

We loved everything about Jongomero. The location, the accommodation, the food, the safaris, the guides (Joseph and Vincent) the staff, the pool, everything! Michael and his team were so welcoming and friendly and all aspects of the camp are run to an extremely high standard. The chef (David) cooked delicious safe meals for our son who is extremely allergic to a number of foods. On the safaris it was just our family and guides in the land rover so it felt far more personal. Just wonderful. Thank you to all for a fantastic four days that we'll never forget.

I travelled to Jongomero for 4 nights in November having spent the previous 4 nights in its sister camp Suwandu . I had not been on Safari before this trip and what a great experience it was. On arriving at the camp I was welcomed with several of the staff all singing a welcome song and a welcome drink. The layout of the camp and the accomodation was excellent. For the first 2 days I was the only guest in the camp but the staff were all very friendly and willing to chat to me. Their aim was for me to have the best experience I could.
The game drives with Hollemy guide was amazing, his knowledge of all animals, birds and plant/trees in the park was incredible. He even found me the Leopards that was on my wish list to see.
Chef Juma went above and beyond to make sure the meals
was to my taste and spoke to me before every meal about what I liked and ensured I enjoyed all my meals, which I certainly did.
The location of the camp is quite remote but I think this enhances the safari experience as I never saw any jeeps from other camps whilst on the game drives.
The standard of accomodation and service was excellent.
I will also mention the other members of the Jongomero team who made my stay such a memorable one. Wilson, Ben (Management) Onesmo, Shariff, Shomani (Waiters) Silvanus, Matias (Housekeepers) and not forgetting Steluu & Kingo (Askaris). You are all fantastic and made my trip such an amazing experience.

If you want a true safari experience then I can highly recommend Jongomero Camp, situated approximately 80km from any other camps the only other humans you see out in the bush are most likely other Jongomero residents. Wilson the manager and his team are exemplary in their operation of this quite beautiful camp. Nothing was a problem and when we did have a problem it was dealt with in the most professional and correct manner.

The food was marvellous with smaller portions for those that don't need a 3 course meal 3 times a day, tents and other facilities at the camp are all beautiful and very well kept. We heard animals strolling around at night but knew that we were being looked over by the ever present Masai security team!

Our guide Lambert, having grown up in the Ruaha Park with a father who was a Ranger, was quite simply amazing with his knowledge and animal tracking abilities, we saw many many animals including several lions, elephants, giraffe the list goes on.

The dry riverbeds were quite stunning especially for a Sundowner at the end of the day, as watched a herd of elephants on the opposite side 'dig' for water and spray it joyfully in the air!

I'd go back tomorrow.....

We spent four days recently on safari at this camp. It seems strange to call it a "camp" when it is so comfortable, chic and luxurious. Each lunch and dinner blew us away - the cuisine is stylishly presented and utterly delicious, consistently! All the staff were so attentive and kind. There was even a tall, quiet Maasai who patrolled the pathways so we knew we were always safe - as the camp is remote and unfenced. Lambert was our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable. The location on the banks of the river is stunning, even though the river was dry, as expected, in June. Elephants come down to dig in it for water. This was a wonderful start to our safari in Ruaha.

Our adventure began with a 21/2hr from Ruaha msembe airstrip to Jongomera . We saw a good variety of wildlife and birdlife along the way. We were welcomed by the wonderful " Jongomera choir" and chilled drinks, Our tent was very luxurious, large bed, double sinks, huge walk in shower, good quality bed linen and towels, even cut glasses. I cannot single out a single member of the staff as everyone was extremely friendly and most helpful. The meals were 5* the quality that any top restaurant would be proud to serve. Our guide J.C. was a first class guide, extremely knowledgeable and a very pleasant young man. As we are very keen bird watchers, he spotted and identified lots f birds for us, together with all the big game. We had the most amazing experience thanks to all the wonderful staff at Jomgomera. we cannot wait to return.

Apologies for the delayed response. You will likely need a guide to take you for game drive (not sure that we are allowed to be on our own - for safety reasons as well). I suggest you contact the camp where you plan to stay and go from there. There was a couple who was staying at Jongomero when we were there, who came with their private vehicle. They went on a jeep with a guide that was arranged by Jongomero.

Hi k9todd January is not as cold in Ruaha as the beginning of the season so perhaps pack a couple of fleeces or jumpers and a waterproof. There is a suggested packing list along with seasonal information on the website if you care to visit the jongomero page. We look forward to welcoming you to Ruaha SSC

Hi Brian & Jo Thank yo for your interest in Jongomero sadly Jongomero, and all our camps are closed from 15th March until 1st June. If you can delay the trip by a few days you could be some of our first guests for the new season! From Tabora you would travel through Dodoma onto Iringa and then into the Park. If you would like to know please contact our office (sadly TA does not allow me to add an email address but our details are on our website) Kind regards Lyndsey

Dear V Da Costa Apologies for the delay - please email for more information. However Selous Safari Company does not take direct international bookings - so we advise all guests to go to a local African specialist tour operator who will be able to advise you on travel around Africa - you benefit from their knowledge and organisation without paying a penny more! I believe you also have asked the same question for our other camp in Selous. Putting the two properties together, offer you an even better discount so be sure to ask your tour operator for our special offers! If you would like us to recommend a tour operator for you please email the above address I hope this helps Kind regards Lyndsey
