Kigelia Ruaha is where you go when your soul seeks the humbling solitude of giant baobabs, the exhiliration of encountering Africa's big cats or great herds of elephant; where the focus is on experiencing nature and not the gold taps, and where you can feel at home while simultaneously enjoying the care of a dedicated team. Located in the best wildlife area of the great Ruaha National Park, Kigelia Ruaha is a simple but beautifully put together tented bushcamp offering all those creature comforts that you need, while enjoying one of the best kept big game secrets in East Africa.

We went with a party of five, and had the camp (and, it seemed, the park) to ourselves for three of our four days. We all scored it with fours or fives (out of five), the fours from those who didn’t completely enjoy al fresco breakfasts ( we changed to late morning brunches after the first day)
In general the food was excellent. Well cooked and interesting mix of local and international. There were no tsetse fly, which made a massive difference to our enjoyment, having come from a camp inside a park which was in some areas infested with them. Excellent guide. And the camp staff were delightful and very well managed and trained. Camp manager Ken could not have been more helpful, as well as seeming to know as much about the flora and fauna as guide Elly. The park itself is stunning visually, with plenty of contour, rocky extrusions, dry and (in June) running rivers, and pockets of open savannah where if there is anything to see you will see it. We had excellent sightings of lion, cheetah, jackal, hyena, elephant, giraffe, hippo, buffalo….and if we hadn’t stopped for our sundowner, would have been back in time to see the leopard and cubs that parked in a tree opposite the camp. Wonderful birding too. And Baobobs….you will never see so many in one place.

We stayed 3 nights in Kigali Ruaha. But we could have stayed much longer…
We immediately felt at home. Manager Ken and his staff were amazing. They were always very friendly and at our service.
Delicious food, dinners by candlelight.
We will never forget taking bucket-shower under sky with thousands of stars.
Tents were top, very clean and we could watch the animals drinking from the watertub in front of our tent.
Special thanks to Mel, our gentle guide. He did his utmost best to show us the wildlife in Ruaha, even on the night drive. And it felt as if we knew him already for a long time.
We loved this place and we can highly recommend Kigali Ruaha.

This review truly brightened our day, and we were overjoyed to learn that you enjoyed your stay at our very special Kigelia Ruaha! Ken and the group were ecstatic to have you. Our bush camp was created to put as little as possible between you and the beauties of the nature that surround you, and we're so delighted you fully embraced that attitude. We sincerely hope to have the pleasure of inviting you back to Kigelia or to one of our other camps at some point. Thank you Ann and Marie for this wonderful review.

We have just spent an incredible 4 days at Kigalia tented camp. My husband and I travelled with our two daughters (16 and 18). Ken was our guide and he was absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and we loved the camp as soon as we arrived. His team are excellent and we had fantastic food and were looked after by everybody so well. The tents are so comfortable, and hot water bottles were placed in our beds at turn down, and popped into the safari jeep for early morning safaris. Breakfasts were really fun, out in the bush and delicious. . Suppers were eaten under the stars and drinks enjoyed around a roaring camp fire. Total luxury. Ken was so knowledgeable and answered our many questions on the wildlife with patience and humour. We saw three leopards, a family of lions complete with cubs, elephants close up and giraffes playing and drinking, hippos, crocs and many many more animals.. It was such a magical few days that none of us wanted to leave and we will treasure our memories there forever. Many many thanks, pip, David and girls. We hope we can come back sometime!

This was a little more 'basic' than other camps we visited, due to its remote and isolated location. I feel the tents needed a little bit of finessing, but they were fine. The people are fantastic, the food is good. And it's a safari camp, after all! Wildlife viewing was really good.

Beautiful place!

Really beautiful rooms, located next to a river (Elephants like this place, too ;-)). But we never felt unsafe! Because of the location and the size of the camp, we relaxed and enjoyed it.

But also the great service and the lovely team around Ken, the hotel manager, is a must-have for mention them. The whole team fulfilled every wish, even if it's a really special one. They are great.

We had a really lovely reception and a really lovely send-off (unfortunately). There is a great breakfast and dinner, the lunch is delicious and the cake in the afternoon is tasty. Even the food on safari is soooo delicious, really great. Definately the best breakfast somewhere in the bush, compared to other camps we visited.

We were really sad, when we left the camp, because the staff made it to a special place for us.
Greetings, Tom.

Ruaha National Park/Kigelia Camp was the fourth stop on our safari circuit. Both offered a unique experience.
The park itself is fairly remote offering a calm peacefulness, accompanied by few visitors. We saw the largest amount of elephants, giraffes, and lions here compared to the other parks we visited (Serengeti, Tarangarie, and the Crater). We experienced lions mating, a male lion fight, and at least two baby giraffes (with umbilical cords still attached). We also saw Greater and Lesser kudu, leopard, cheetah, bush buck, zebra, impala, hyenas, jackals, and multiple birds. Our guide, Good Luck, went out of his way to provide us with the best experience possible. He was extremely knowledgeable!
The staff at the camp was superb. Raj filled in as manager due to Ken taking a short leave. He visited with us each evening around the campfire to check on our day. Joseph was our waiter providing the best service possible. He set up our table for lunch in the wi-fi tent just to accommodate us. He was also there to offer drinks and starters. At night he set up a wonderful table under the stars. The food was outstanding. Our clothes were washed and folded impeccably. Mr. P provided security to our tent, and the warm bucket showers were awesome.
If you're heading to Tanzania, put Ruaha and Kigelia on your agenda. You won't be sorry.

We spent 4 nights at this beautiful camp in Ruaha. A wonderful setting and comfortable tents with superb food, not to mention sundowners and the camp fire. The staff lead by Ken the Manager were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Their attention to detail and looking after guests was much appreciated. I would definitely recommend visiting.

Kigelia Ruaha is a fantastic camp in the middle of nowhere. The tented rooms are superb and the bucket shower is an experience but a good one. The food is really excellent particularly when you consider where you are. All the staff are friendly, well trained and good fun. This is the best camp in the Ruaha and is run by Nomad who are simply the experts when it comes to safaris. Our guide Mel was superb and found us everything we wanted to see, we even got charged by a big matriarch elephant. But Mell said just sit quietly and she will go away, all this advise while she is rushing towards us. He was right she stopped when she realised we were not a threat

This lovely and relaxing camp was our first safari stop after hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. It was everything we hoped for, and more.

The staff were attentive and enjoyable. The amenities are top notch. The tents area well appointed and incredibly comfortable.

Our guide, Good Luck, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and paid great attention to detail.

I'm definitely adopting the practice of enjoying sundown each day into my life... If only I could figure out how to make siesta a thing...

The food was exceptional as well. I highly recommend.

This was our third visit to Ruaha and Kigelia Camp ranks at the top. It was our first camp on this trip and is a truly great Bush Camp in the true sense. On this visit we covered virtually the whole of the park, which is vast, from one end to the other with our excellent and knowledgeable guide Julius. We had a walk, a full day trip to the Jongomero swamp, and a night drive during our visit qll of which were very interesting. The camp and accommodation were all first class, We got to visit the chef in his kitchen and it is amazing the quality of the food turned out. Thanks also to all the conscientious staff including Goodluck and Joseph.
