What a great stay we had at Tandala. It was so green, as it was the rainy season. The first afternoon we just chilled at the pool and then did game drives into the Park the following 2 days. The Camp is situated outside the Park, but it’s really close and doesn’t take long to get there. Note that it takes a while to fill in the paperwork at the Ruaha entrance. Tandala is not fenced, so the game can walk through the camp, including elephants and the occasional cat. The Askari (warriors) are brilliant at escorting you around camp when the elephants are in Camp, as well as getting you safely to your tent at night. We heard lion and hyena calling at night. We also enjoyed the pool after a long day, as well as the very comfortable lounge area, with views of the water hole. Accommodation is amazing and comfortable. Food was amazing and we had breakfast under the African sun. I can’t say enough about the owners and all the staff and their personal interest in all the guests. What an amazing time and place. My favorite moment, watching the elephants on foot in the camp - amazing!

The lodge has a fantastic location and the best thing is probably that you can watch the elephants at their "own" waterhole every day from the sofa. Game drives are almost unnecessary with this view. We were there for 3 days. The lodge and the whole accommodation are very nicely designed and we liked it very much. You feel despite much comfort in the middle of nature. Especially the food under the stars was always great. The staff is super friendly and the hosts always committed to offer the best experience. The food was ok but for our taste a bit too European and we would have been happy about a bit of African cuisine.
For the safety to move around the camp is also provided at all times.
The game drives were led by very experienced guides and they really showed us everything we wanted to see and we had a good time with them (thanks Damian).

PS: For all the tall people, be aware that the beds are short (people over 1.85m can have problems).

As the title suggests this was our second visit to Tandala. It was so good on the first visit we just had to return again (and hopefully again.)
Booking was so easy. An eMail to Dionysia and it was arranged. Post Covid there were some different rules about payment etc., but all was done correctly. We arrived independently and after being greeted warmly Yannis had noted my wife's difficulty in getting out of the car and promptly and kindly allocated us a Land Rover for game drives which had easier access for us less agile folks.
The place was just as we remembered but being rainy season the grounds were more lush and beautifully green. Fewer animals needing the waterhole but there were still plenty around. Birdlife was plentiful too.
There is a small swimming pool by the main Lapa and as the outside dining area was not in use we ate breakfast and dinner in another small 'room'. I say room but it had no walls or windows and very homely.
Dionysia was away with family, as the season was ending but Yannis made the perfect friendly host.
Our tents are on stilts and quite roomy with a viewing platform outside and a large bed with storage area and a bathroom with all facilities en suite. One could and did lie awake and listen to the sounds of the African night. Lion, Hyena and Elephant rumblings.
Meals were very good, three courses were usual at dinner. Breakfast cooked to order each morning. We took packed lunches with us each day on game drives into the Park. The Camp is just 5km from the main gate so easily accessible. Our drivers/guides were very skilled and safe and knew where to find the wildlife. We saw Cheetah, Leopards and Lions and some of the friendliest Elephant I have ever met. Lots of young ones too and protective Aunties to guard them.
We had a wonderful four days and will certainly try our best to return before long.
Thank you Dionysia and Yanni, may you continue to prosper and entertain us.

We were a group of 9 friends staying in Tandala Tented Camp for three nights from 2 to 5 October. To make this experience more special, the owners of Tandala, Dionysia and Yanni, had reserved the whole camp only for us and we were the only guests enjoying the beauty and hospitality of Tandala Tented Camp.
The camp is extremely beautiful, set up among baobab trees. The lounge area is 20 metres away from the water hole were dozens of elephants, kudus, impalas come for water many times per day. Food was abundant and most delicious. The tents were more than one can expect – spacious, comfortable with large terraces.
The game drives to Ruaha National Park were well organised, the open safari vehicles comfortable, reliable and, considering the hot temperature at day time, a big advantage to enjoy.
We were very happy we chose Ruaha National Park. We could admire nature and wild animals on our own. During the two game drive days, we met only several other safari vehicles in the park and watched an abundance of animals – lions, many herds of buffalos, elephants, many giraffes, kudus, impalas, a leopard and many more, and could watch from several metres distance. Many thanks to the guides and drivers of Tandala.
Our biggest gratitude to the owners Yanni and Dionysia . Your presence, your stories and the friendly hospitality we received in Tandala will never be forgotten.
We ordered the accommodation in Tandala by contacting them directly through their website.

Being 6kms from the National Park Gate makes Tandala an ideal place to base yourself if you are not staying in the park. The tent we stayed in was right on the Elephant's path to the waterhole which they used all the time giving us spectacular close sightings of them. The tent itself was very comfortable and spacious and the 1/2 inside 1/2 outside bathroom at the back of the tent was wonderful. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff - the food was really good and having dinner under the stars is a really special experience. I highly recommend Tandala

Tandala Tented Camp is a lovely oasis near Ruaha National Park. They have their own waterhole where animals come to drink. Their tented rooms are so lovely and clean. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are a unique combination of outdoor/indoor space. The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing. We ate all our meals outdoors at a long table enjoying the beautiful sounds of Africa! They also have a very comfortable lounge to view the waterhole and their swimming pool is wonderful. We highly recommend this camp to anyone going on Safari in Ruaha National Park.

Tandala Tented Camp is located a few km from the main entrance of Ruaha NP. You can reach it over a sand road from Iringa (the road is mostly of excellent quality though). There a re a number of big tents, each with shower and toilet. There is a swimming pool and a beautiful bar. The two top attractions are the water hole, where you will see herds of elephants coming to drink (2-3 herds a day is quite normal), but also baboons, impala, water buck, and of course kudus (Tandala is the Swahlili word for kudu). In the morning we have seen traces of lions walking over the camp site during night as well. No need to worry, they take care of your safety.

If the weather is good, they will service food outside under the stars and when it is light, you may see the animals at the water hole during breakfast.

Food is good and for us there is another reason to appreciate this lodge. The owners have hired young people form the local villages and give them on the job training to work in the tourist branch. This may cause some inconvenience, but it is so good to give young people a chance to learn, we should not complain about the resulting imperfections.

I decided not give the location five starts. Our guide was not very happy with the accommodation for guides. We did not check that, but it is important guides feel comfortable because they work hard and deserve appreciation.

October has to be one of the best times of the year to travel to Tanzania. Still in the dry season, but not overwhelmed with tourists, the Ruaha boasts the full complement of animals that one would want to meet on a photographic tour. Our accommodations in the bush allowed us to be up close and personal with flora and fauna of the Ruaha national park. In fact, a lion's roar and elephant calls may wake you from your sleep. But, have no fear, the camp's Masai guards walking with steathlike precision, patrol the perimeter to guard against unwanted intruders and all tents are elevated on stilts.
We absolutely loved the rustic feel of our tent and sinking into the soft leather seats of the great room/bar rounded out a long day on safari. ( the youngsters opted for the pool.) Our hosts, Dionysia and Yanni, a wonderful couple, provided all the comforts plus excellent meals. All staff members were exceptionally thoughtful, kind and helpful and thus all of our needs (plus laundry) were tended to.
Our guide, Damien, and driver Ibrahim superbly drove us through the Ruaha and were able to explain not only animal habits and habitats, but also were keen at spotting an unusual bird, common plant or land formation. ( I never realized that the Masai still use for medications those found in the bush.
Although the Tandala camp was our last stop on safari, it was by no means a lesser stop than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro.
Tandala tented camp is a little gem situated in the bush outside of Iringa and should be explored by those who want the feel of a "real" safari. We regret that we didn't spend extra time visiting but hope to extend our stay next time! Bravo to Dionysia, Yanni and the entire staff. We loved every minute

This is an incredible place to relax - environment is simple and serene and it’s perfect. The animals of the park come to you at the water hole adjacent to property!. Less than 10 mins to Ruaha National park gate where the Tandala guides and drivers ensure a great experience. Tents are really authentic and dinner under the southern stars is very special. Well done Jannie , Dionysia and all the staff. We are looking forward to returning. Joe and Rosaleen.

My friend and I visited Tandala Late Feb/March and had the best time ever.- we stayed for 5 days/4 nights.
I have been on safaries previously in Namibia, Kenya, Zambia, Rwanda and Uganda but this was by far the best.
Ruaha NP is on the doorstep and as we were still off season, so to speak, only met two jeeps of tourists each time we went out into the Park.
You name it, we saw it and saw different animal/birds each time we went out.
The food is superb, the staff are very attentive and the owners brilliant! They cannot give you enough information/help.
The elephant/giraffe/lion come right into the camp watering hole.
An excellent time was had by all, so much in fact that we are already planning to go back next year for a week!.Cant wait!
