Set high on a rocky kopje overlooking a landscape dotted with spiky palms and bulbous baobabs, Jabali Ridge is a sophisticated base from which to explore Ruaha National Park. The remarkable beauty of Ruaha is not only in the landscape and its diversity of flora and fauna, or the impressive big game, but in the feeling of having the wilderness all to yourself.

We have done many safaris in several countries and Jabali Lodge really stands out. Ruaha still has that really wild and non commercialiséd feel. The lodge is beautiful. The staff go out of their way to make the experience perfect ... some of the best food we have eaten at a safari lodge. And besides the usual big cats elephants etc. you get to see the more unusual animals : honey badgers, bat eared foxes, fantastic bird viewing. Thank you Jabali Lodge team for such an amazing stay!!!

Rated as one of the top 10 hotels in Africa, my wife and I can attest that this is a fair assessment. The lodge is immersed in its surroundings, a group of large boulders, and it blends almost seamlessly. The view from the room is a one of a kind baobab forest, where giraffes and elephants roam. The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool, frequently visited by swarms of multicolored birds, Asilia general manager Brandon Kemp made sure our stay was truly memorable, and if you get the chance, I suggest that you pick his brain on sustainability projects he is sponsoring, truly remarkable. The most striking feature is the friendliness of the staff, our guide Emmanuel made each safari drive and adventure, although the park does not have as numerous animals as the Serengeti, it provides an opportunity for attentive and mindful animal watching. The Chefs, including the patisserie chef, are top notch. This is a must!

Room Tip: Ask for Emmanuel, a wonderful guide! Dry seasons is better for spotting animals as the bush is...

We were supposed to have visited Tanzania in 2020, but eventually made it to the totally fabulous Jabali Ridge a year late in June 2021 for a 3-night stay (not long enough). We came for a more remote safari experience (had done the ‘northern circuit’ in 2016) and wanted the absolute best lodge to make the Ruaha visit truly memorable. We were certainly not disappointed. Where do I start to try and explain our delightful stay – lodge or the National Park? Let’s start with the lodge. The lodge is stunning, the rooms are spacious, well laid out, have good Wi-Fi and have breathtaking views across the National Park where there is an ‘army’ of baobab trees. My wife would do yoga on the terrace whilst being watched by curious impala. There is a great pool where you can cool off and soak up the spectacular views. The staff are a total delight and make the stay so friendly and unique – we will never forget the dancing and singing as they brought out a belated 50th birthday cake for my wife. There are too many adorable staff to mention, but a special mention to the lodge Manager, Pascale for impeccable management of the lodge and staff. It’s still a bit of a mystery to me how the team could always deliver the finest service when sometimes you were late back for lunch or dinner because you had stopped for yet another photo opportunity. The food can only be described as the finest dining anywhere, let alone in a remote part of Africa. The head chef, Peter, was truly a master of his profession and supported by a wonderful pastry chef. Every single meal was a culinary experience, with ample choice and huge variety. As for the game drives I don’t think anyone could be disappointed. However, we visited in mid-June which was a little bit early and would highly recommend going a bit later when the brush is a bit more sparce to improve the sightings. The National Park has so many different eco-systems there are very varied safari opportunities from rivers, dry-river beds, savannah, bush, kopjes etc. We did see lions and hyenas but unfortunately the leopard, wild dogs and cheetah eluded us. A very special thanks to our amazing guide, Gilbert, who worked so hard and made all our game drives so fun and enjoyable. He is very experienced and truly tried to squeeze in as many different animal sightings and special views and experiences into every game drive as possible. The bush/bonnet breakfasts and sundowners will never be forgotten. Another person who deserves a special mention was Brandon (one of the Asilia Regional Managers). My wife and I agreed we were very fortunate to be staying whilst Brandon was visiting. He is passionate about conservation, has 20+years safari experience, a unique bond with the staff and rangers and was great company. A huge thanks to him for guiding me with the spectacular tiger fish fishing (only Jabali ridge has a permit for such fishing in the park) and my wife will never forget being treated like a princess by Brandon, Gilbert and Ranger Chris as the hippos and crocs kept us entertained and tiger fish got the better of us – mostly me! The lodge is spectacular and worked like a finely tuned Swiss watch, Ruaha is stunning, the wildlife is very diverse, the food is to die for and the staff a total delight. We will be back for sure – that is a promise to Jabali Ridge and my wife!

This lodge is an absolute gem, tucked away in the rocks, barely visible as you drive towards it, with views to die for overlooking the baobab plains. The rooms are accessed by board walks and are luxurious with all creature comforts and shutters that open the room to large wrap around deck with views over the plains. The staff must be complimented on their service, which stretches beyond normal expectations of service excellence. Special mention must be made to Pascal, the Manager, and to Jackson. But Peter, the chef, deserves an extra special thank you. How he concocts such excellent tasty meals in a tiny kitchen in the bush, is a marvel. His menus, and there was always a choice, compare with any Michelin starred restaurant. And he was so humble and willing to share his recipes. I would return tomorrow if I could!

The camp managed to build an amazing team, well-coordinated and very professional. We were always surrounded by sensitive, delicate attention and received friendly support. I would especially like to mention the chef, who every day surprised us with a wide selection of delicious food, accompanied by a unique presentation. We were in 9 camps in Africa, so we can say for sure: right now the best cook in Africa is here. We arrived in the off-season, so there were few animals. But they was not shy at all and allowed to watch themselves for a long time from a very close distance. Rain season was offset by coolness, fragrant Bush and a wonderful camp team. Thank you very much! Asanti sana!
