Our 4 night stay at Ikuka was the highlight of our trip to Tanzania, nothing afterwards could even come close and we mentioned on several occasions how much we missed Ikuka and the team after just 1 day.

The setting is stunning, the team are kind, fun and professional, the food is exceptional and attention is put into every single detail.

In the mornings your could either wake up early to a fresh brewed pot of coffee or tea before heading out in search of wildlife, arriving at the jeep with a hot water bottle warming up your seat, or relax in bed with a cup of coffee watching the beautiful African sunrise.
On the morning journey through the Ruaha National Park, we would stop for the most incredible "picnic" breakfast with a selection of fresh fruits, bacon, sausages, eggs, juice, coffee and other treats.

After the morning drive, lunch would be served at the camp which was always divine and you could either have a little nap or chill by the pool with a beer.

The evening safari drives also included a sundowner drink of your choice, Masaka our guide made a great gin and tonic and went out of his way to make sure we saw as much as possible.
After every drive the Ikuka team would be waiting for your at the camp with a big smile, a wet towel to freshen up and a drink of some sort.

For dinner you could either have a private dinner which we had under the stars one evening which was very special and romantic or you could do with the wider group which was always great fun, hearing tales of everyone's adventures. Again, dinner was always superb!

The tents are beautifully designed and the turn down service is lovely, with another hot water bottle to warm up the bed.

Overall an amazing experience! If only there were more Ikukas out there.
Thank you!

Everything about our stay was exceptional. Festo was an outstanding guide: his knowledge of birds and animals, his tracking skills, his idiomatic English, his humour. He was such a delight to spend time with and we learned so much. Lilly quietly ran all the operations behind the scenes, rising at 4.30 to make sure we got the right tea or coffee, and always greeting us from drives with warmth and hospitality. And the place itself....the views are breathtaking, the rooms are glorious with huge beds and fabulous bathrooms. The food was invariably delicious and not too heavy and the service was faultless. If I could give it 6 stars I would! I certainly intend to return. Thank you, to all of you.

We do not normally stay at luxury camps – we like our safari experiences to be as much on the wild side as possible, but we were advised to make an exception in June 2023.

Ikuka Safari Camp presides over the Ruaha National Park from its unique location high up on the Mwagusi escarpment – it is quite literally a high-end destination! It is both a ‘chilling out’ and a ‘serious safari’ destination. The TLC of family ownership shines through from the camp’s design and layout through to its décor and furnishings. This is no ordinary camp underpinned by the quality its staff, service, food, and attention to detail. It is one of a very small number of camps we would not hesitate to return to. It justly belongs to the luxury end of the safari camps market yet is not in any way ostentatious. Warm, welcoming, offering mesmerising views stretching 30kms or more. A wonderful place to take a safari siesta in preparation for the next game drive experience.

We were blessed to have the services of Senior Guide, Festo. Brits will instantly take to Festo who is not only very knowledgeable on all matters wildlife, but also has a fantastic grasp of English humour due to his outstanding language skills. There was plenty of wildlife on offer and I particularly enjoyed a walking safari – time to stop and stare at the flora and some fauna – magical!

The staff and their manager Tommy were all exceptional, even rising to the challenge of recovering a pair of swimming trunks that had apparently thrown themselves over the precipice – we won’t mention the drowning socks in the plunge pool. Nothing was too much trouble; everyone was genuinely welcoming and friendly; so many smiles we initially thought they must be part of the staff uniform, but we were wrong – everyone was just genuinely happy to be there.

We seriously hope to make a return visit, trusting there will be a room with a view!

This was the 4th and final Safari camp in our 2.5 weeks in Tanzania. It was fabulous. We would not hesitate to recommend this camp. It is located inside Ruaha national park and in the best location compared to all the other 12 lodges in th area. Ikuka sits on the top of hills, perfectly integrated into the hillside so you cannot find it unless you know where it is. Each room/cabana sits off the edge of the hillside to maximize views. The rooms are furnished with everything you would need and more. The staff are kind, thoughtful, and caring and do everything they can to anticipate any need you might have. They generously feed you 6-7 times a day with an absolutely creative menu. We were fortunate to stay 4 nights which I would recommend. Make the effort to stay here and experience this national park as it was a totally different safari experience (from landscape as well as wild life viewing) from our south Serengeti and Mahale stays.

Before I get into my review, let me just mention if you're thinking about booking a safari in Africa, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't at least include Ikuka Safari Camp in your search.

My wife was a travel agent and we have traveled extensively, but the level of service and the hospitality we experienced at Ikuka is unparalleled. There was a welcoming team with cool towels and a drink to greet us when we arrived the first day and they were there every time we left and came back from a game drive. Mark, the owner, was typically there as well and he has assembled a team of guides, cooks, wait staff and security who are both highly skilled at their jobs and go well beyond what's expected in making a traveler feel welcome.

The accommodations are more than comfortable and totally private. Waking up in the morning to the panoramic landscape below and having coffee and juice waiting in your seating area is how I wish I could start every day. And the solar shower is amazing!

Our guide, Habibu (sp?), was extremely knowledgable about what we were seeing - the animals, the plants, the birds and the ecology of Ruaha National Park - and we learned far more than we expected to. He had a warm and inviting personality, was a pleasure to be around and could mix a great gin and tonic on our sunset game drives.

Food prep and presentation made each meal memorable, whether it was breakfast on the morning game drive, lunch back at the camp or the evening meal. It was so good I think I took a picture of every meal.

If you want to see animals up close in their own environment and be treated like royalty while you doing it, Ikuka definitely deserves to be considered. The attached pictures were taken with my phone - serious photographers will get much better results.

What more can I say about this place. This was our 3rd visit so they must be doing something right. The location of this camp is the most spectalor high up you can see for miles and never get tired of looking out. As usual we were fed like we weren't going to eat ever again, looked after like kings and queens the staff do everything 100% to make sure your staff is the best it can be. Once again our friend Festo was our driver what this man does not know isn't worth knowing I think this was the 5th time he has guided us and each time we are blown away at his professionalism and knowledge, Ikuka are lucky to have him. A million thanks to you all until we meet again

Visited for three nights, the camp boasts fantastic views from great deck and pool area. The units are very comfortable and some have their own splash pools. Staff were very attentive, the guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The owners gave a personal touch and make you feel at home. The meals will surprise you despite the remote location. Great venue and well worth a visit!

I can’t believe I forgot to leave a review so sorry. Really don’t want to leave a review as want the place all to myself. We have now been to Ikuka twice and will return. When you first walk into the dining room and look over the Ruaha Park it takes your breathe away. This is how Safari should be done luxury in a very homely way. Do not for one minute think you will leave hungry at any time they are constantly feeding you with the most delicious food that you would be hard pushed to fine in a city restaurant. Rooms are out of this world and will never tire of looking out into the Ruaha. Everything is thought of for odour comfort. Once you have picked up your jaw and got out on Safari you will not be disappointed. The guides are amazing and can’t do enough for you and look after you. We met an old friend from a previous camp Festo again and what this man doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing about Tanzania and it’s wildlife, plants and trees. This visit was timed with Christmas and this has to be one of the best Christmases I have ever had and we can’t thank Mark and Chloe enough for letting us join their family Christmas. We have made memories of several lifetime over our two visits here and long to go back.

Our family visit over Christmas 2020 to Ikuka was nothing short of magical. The camp setting is spectacular. The game drives were beyond our expectations with Geoffrey, our superb tour gude. He made the magic of Ruhaha come alive for us and our 6 year old.
Ikuka is clearly a labour of love for Mark and Chloe- our tented suite , food, sundowners, meals, eapecially the Christmas dinner complete with crackers- was made super special by them and their exceptional team.
A very stunning and memorable experience. Thank you very much Mark, Chloe, Alex and Verity!

We spent four nights at Ikuka during our month long safari in Tanzania in August. It is an amazing experience! Being family owned and operated, we felt that every need was anticipated and fulfilled. Chloe, Mark, and their young daughters are wonderful hosts. The tents are beautifully appointed and comfortable. Food was outstanding. Long safari drives yielded a wealth of animal spotting and lots of info on local trees and plants. Festo was our guide and he did a fantastic job every day. Ruaha is aa treasure! Don't miss this experience. We were there during Covid so not many other guests but no shortage of attention!
