I loved this place! So sorry it so long to write this review but life gets in the way.
It was a last minute booking and I didn't do extensive research but the agent recommended it us so I went with it. From the moment we landed at the airstrip we felt welcomed, the drive to the lodge was peaceful with the gift of seeing a cheetah lounging by a tree. Upon approach, the staff was there to welcome us with drinks. The room was beautiful, with a small pool and views to the park from the bed, which was large and comfortable. There were outlets to charge your phones but no wifi in the room which I wasn't concerned about. The outdoor shower/toilet also had views and was very private but somewhat scary at night because it was dark and you could hear the sounds of nature. Otherwise, there was hot water, flushing toilet and nice toiletries.

Food was delicious, I am a pescatarian and my partner a picky eater but we were well catered to. At breakfast there were eggs made to your choosing, and lunch had a nice variety of dishes, Dinner was well presented and gourmet in quality especially considering the location and the different needs of the guests. Drinks were plentiful and there were a good variety of wines to pair with your meal. It was my partners birthday and they brought out a cake and sang for him, so sweet and much appreciated!
Game drives were early morning and you could receive a wake up call if you wished, you could choose between a full day or half day drive. We sunrise/sunset drives with a .break in between. Habibi was so good, so knowledgeable and answered questions patiently. He was able to track lions for us after figuring out they would be on the move and we saw numerous elephants and others. He also saw birds in the distance which I had no idea how he could see while driving, he's really great!
Lastly, the best part of Ikuka is the staff, they have beautiful genuine souls, Annie, Seif, Habibi, Mark Jake, and everyone we interacted with are very special and I hope they know how much they are appreciated. Anyway, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some peace and adventure. I hope to go back one day.

We had our second trip to Ruaha in November 2019 and our travel agent recommended Ikuka Camp .. and I’m so glad he did. What an absolute gem this camp is. The huge rooms are fabulous, spotlessly clean with wonderful views - we loved sitting in the lounge area of our “tent”, drinking coffee and watching elephants. The food is just superb, both eating in camp and the bush breakfasts. Game viewing was just so good, we were lucky enough to have Festo as our guide and we loved him. We saw so much and it was definitely a leopard holiday - several sightings where we were fortunate to have the sightings completely to ourselves. I really can’t praise Ikuka and the wonderful staff there enough, everyone works so hard to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Everything you could need is provided - from insect repellent (not needed) to bathrobes. There are charging facilities in each room. We have stayed at some truly wonderful camps over the years but Ikuka is definitely a favourite and I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. If you ever visit Ruaha then do yourself a real favour and stay at Ikuka.

I've stayed in almost all the camps in Ruaha national park and Ikuka's my favourite.

It's the kind of place that cares about the details - every tiny thing has been thought of, from the soaps they use, to the quality of the bed and pillows. The design of the rooms are amazing, with open showers. If I could live there, I would!

The team is amazing and are your family right away, they've all grown up in and around the area and have amazing stories to tell. You can tell that Ikuka was built and is run by locals with a passion for the park.

I feel really lucky to have experienced this place and hope I get to come back.

My family and I had an amazing stay at Ikuka - we felt completely taken care of at the lodge, it is truly world class hospitality in a remote location. The safari was magical - our guide Festo did a fantastic job giving us a great experience. Not only would I recommend it to anyone, but I would go back again myself!

We visited the camp in early July and were blown away by the service, views and game/ safari experiences.
Tommy and the whole team ran a really professional operation with greetings, cold towels and drinks every time we arrived in the camp post a safari drive.
Fantastic rooms and central facilities with views of the ever changing Tanzanian countryside really added to the wild experience.
Food and drinks were above our expectations and friendly attentive staff made dinner at the communal table a real end of day highlight.
Our guide Geoffrey was outstanding and took time to get us into the best locations to see a wide variety of the animals in Ruaha National Park
Highly recommend you put Ikuka on you itinerary if you are in Tanzania.
Cheers

We have just returned from a little over 2 weeks in Tanzania and the 4 days we spent at Ikuka are by far and away the highlight of the whole trip.

Everything has been thought of here, and I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. The Ikuka family is warm and inviting, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and also incredibly accommodating. It feels like nothing is too much trouble.

We travelled with our teenage sons (aged 15 and 17) they had their own room, they were well looked after, including the team going through the daily menu to ensure they were happy with the food and made changes for them if asked.

The food is delicious, we chose to eat as a family each day and that worked out perfectly. If anyone is lucky enough to have a birthday whilst at Ikuka (my husband did), definitely let the team know as the surprise at dinner was amazing!

The safari game drives were exceptional again. Our guide Mustafa was excellent, really friendly and knowledgeable. The game and environment was excellent, we saw some incredible sights, the picnic breakfasts and sundowner evening drinks were fantastic. Our first sundowner also included a nosey giraffe watching us for ages from about 20 metres away! Mustafa took us to some incredible locations and we can't stop talking about the things we saw - Lions, leopard, giraffes, zebra, elephants, jackal, hyena, warthog, buffalo, crocodiles, hippo, amazing birds, and the scenery.

My husband and I also did a walking safari which was another excellent experience and really worth doing.

It's safe to say that I will be talking about Ikuka and Ruaha for a long time, this was such an amazing experience.

As someone else said previously, if you're thinking about booking Ikuka stop thinking and just book it. You won't be disappointed.

To Mark, Chloe, Chevvy and all the rest of the team - keep up the fantastic work we really hope to be back.

We came here in the wet season so game viewing is very limited and you should not expect to see leopard and may not see lions. You will see lots though and the park is truly stunning. It is also exceptionally varied in its landscapes.

Ikuka is around a 30-40 minute drive from the various different habitats and in the wet the road is very bad. A new road is apparently to be built from May. I doubt it’s a problem in the dry season.

Rooms are very spacious and have that view that you never get tired of. The showers are excellent though we did have some troubles with the various heating types and one day had cold water. Wake up calls are punctual and also include hot chocolate which was lovely.

Meals are generally excellent and lunch in particular was always outstanding. A curry one night was a little dull and my wife didn’t like it at all. Drinks are very good with a decent bar and very willing bartenders to make quite a few cocktails. They are happy to go ‘off piste’ if you know your cocktails.

Our guide was exceptional for both the game drives and a walking Safari. Staff around the camp can be a bit stiff and formal and I think maybe there is a style of hospitality being offered that could do with being more relaxed and a bit more showing their real selves. We never struggled to get help with anything though and nothing was too much.

Thank you for your review and for sharing your experiences on here with others. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time stay with us in the beautiful Ruaha National Park! There was a cyclone from Madagascar which made the weather exceptionally wet during your stay which made our roads very wet and yes as you say the national park authorities will be fixing all the roads up again in April/May once the park has started to dry up. The hot water systems are being upgraded, so that when there is an exceptionally wet period we have a backup to our solar water system. We have taken all your comments on board and shared with our team. Best wishes from the Ikuka family.

With their 7 lodges, the Ikuka safari camp has all to be your exclusive base camp for your multiple safari explorations in the Ruaha National Park.

So many superlatives to express our stay for our second part of our honeymoon here, this place will be forever in our memories as our African love nest 😉

The staff deserves absolutely a 5star as they are at your services all the time, with a special thank you to Habib, our ranger and Annie, at the bar who is the most kind and smiley person we ever met.

Our expectations on the food quality were so overachieved. Not to forget they are in the middle of now-where, the chefs meals option are make every day fresh and are so delicious. Our absolute favorite was lunch as their “tapas” formula with original salad combinations and meat/fish dish is every time a savory welcome back after you spend your morning safari ride. And not forgetting the breads & cakes made by Mary - my husband was a big fan !

The resort offers two safari rides a day, but if you feel to relax at the resort certainly the breath taking views can keep you company there. The pool is located just in front of this amazing panorama.

We stayed in lodge number 6, the most far out on the property … I suppose the hotel wanted to give us as much privacy for our honeymoon. Very beautiful decorated with a huge mosquito tent inside, gives you the feeling that you're truly sleeping in the nature. One little comment: you can't use a hair dryer in the property, it was not an issue for us but maybe some of the ladies reading this review like to know about this upfront.

Again absolute recommendation for any travelers looking for an exclusive safari experience in Ruaha National Park. We hope to return one day for our wedding anniversary !

I am a travel agent and have personally traveled to a number of safari-type camps in Tanzania, Kenya, Botswana, Nambia, and South Africa. If you are considering a visit to the Ruada NP and want a luxury camp experience you need to look no further than Ikuka. The location could not be better. It's amazing location on an escarpment blows you away with each look. The lodging, as you will read on other reviews, is pure luxury particularly considering where Ikuka is located. The food impressed me every meal. My assumption is that you will be going to Ruaha to see animals. The guides working at Ikuka that I met were more experienced than 90% of the guides I have encountered in other camps. They are true professionals that know the park intimantly.

It is really hard to describe Ikuka in words...it is perfection. The location overlooking the national park is idyllic and Tom and his team provide a seamless safari experience. Your every possible want & need is catered for and anticipated. Every time we entered or left the camp Tom & his staff would be there there with cooling towels and a refreshing beverage.

To say that we were well fed is an understatement. Coffee tray, Bush breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, sundowners & dinner! All of an extremely high standard.

The rooms were beautiful. Massive bed, open bathroom and every facility you could possibly need.

It is well worth spending a couple of days in camp without going on safari drives just to soak in the views and the atmosphere.
