Often reviews are a single point in time based on alignment of offering and patron … I’d like to offer that in the case if Three Tree Hill Lodge I’ve returned again again since 2013 and I have never left happier. My most recent visit I stayed at the more secluded Churchills with stunning views and cosy fire. All meals are tasty and nourishing. The wine list is well balanced. I loved being able to eat in the wine cellar, deck and patio. Cheryl’s game walk was fantastic and I know my partner enjoyed the war history excursion as well. Melanie is fantastic and nothing is ever too much trouble. We also went to Cathedral Peak for a day and the drive there and back is was doable. Three Tree Hill continues to deliver consistent value for money. I can’t wait to return!

When we arrived we were a bit skeptical as the place looked very simple and basic. However this cattle farm will surprise you. 5 star for me means service, accommodation and food is on point. The welcome was so warm, all the staff are so genuine in their efforts to ensure every family member has a great stay. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. It has a rustic old school vibe, I usually prefer a more modern look/vibe. We travelled with young kids and board, games, puzzles and much more was provided to keep them entertained. The food, was amazing, so delicious, organic, always in point. The kids were always catered for and considered. We had to drive for about an hour to get a closer view of the mountains and I would recommend going with a good SUV that can handle muddy and wet dust road if it’s raining. Overall I would definitely go back. It’s a lovely, quiet, getaway from the hustle and bustle. There are also some nice trails to do. I think 3 nights max here will do.

Incredible farm setting, great views, Burchell cottage was top notch, Melanie was an incredible host, perfect for families/kids... and THE FOOD! Best food we've ever had at a lodge. Plus, a perfect location to explore the various regions of the Drakensberg. Really had an amazing stay. Our only complaint was the overwhelming white-male-colonizer-war decor. Walls and walls and placemats full of white men fighting. Sure, we can learn from war history – but there was zero representation of the women and native (black) Africans the war affected too. Just glorifying the two white countries that stole the land then fought each other over it (even a photo of a colonizer's tombstone above the toilet!). It's 2022 and the world has changed a lot, so maybe it's time to tone down the colonialism history...

A beautiful part of the world. The scenery & views were breathtaking, our lodge was very private with an enormous deck looking over the game reserve & Spionkop. If you do nothing else, make sure you do the battlefields, their guide, Ron Gold, speaks from a place of so much knowledge and you'll be transported back to that time in history. The staff were incredibly helpful and organised tickets to The Drakensberg Boys Choir - an absolute must! Our host, Cheryl arranged a gin tasting in the superb Molly Blackburn library - we had no idea South Africa had so many wonderful gins! We will most definitely be returning, make sure it's on your "must visit" list.

This is Africa…WOW.. we totally loved this beautiful place , despite the somewhat challenging drive up to it. Melanie and her delightful staff were wonderful, amazing food, great drinks, very clean and comfortable. We stayed in a beautiful lodge with our own viewing deck with a stunning view over the hills. Incredibly peaceful, the history of Spionkop is all around. It is so worth the drive, we were sad to only have booked 24 hours there, will definitely return. Put it on your list!
