We loved our very brief visit to Three Tree Hill. The setting is just magic and going to sleep hearing the jackal, night jar and francolin calls made one feel as if you were very deep into the bushveld. The view onto the Spioenkop Battlefield site and the valley below is spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and great interaction with Simon, Cheryl and staff.
We were only for one night and unfortunately it was raining. We didn’t see the Drakensberg because of the clouds. It is a really beautiful place, maybe we will come again when sun is shining. It is on the top of a hill with a naturally surrounding. The dinner was excellent and the wine cellar is a gem.
We booked for three nights on a friends recommendation and ended up staying for eight nights as were enjoying it so much. You absolutely must do the Boer War Battlefield tour with Ron Gold, you dont have to be an historian to appreciate it. When you arrive at the courtyard your first reaction could be to be slightly underwhelmed as you can only see the outside of the reception and the lounge, but once you are established in one of the rooms which have a brilliant view of Spion Kop or have visited the lounge which is full of African memorabilia and artefacts or the excellent library or the wine cellar, you realise that you are somewhere special. The rooms are comfortable andthe staff very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. It is a great base for exploring the Drakensbergs as well as the numerous activities that the lodge offers. Very highly recommended and we will certainly return on our next South Sfrican trip.…
We spent 3 nights at Three Tree Hill, and loved every minute of our stay! The room was beautiful and supremely comfortable with the greatest view over Spioenkop. The sounds at night lulled us to sleep, while warm days were spent in the swimming pool (very nice and cold) after excursions. We really enjoyed the history tour - so informative and well presented. Horse riding was great too! We couldn't have asked for better food, Christmas Eve and Day were so special with all the small personal touches. Thank you to everyone who made our time at Three Tree Hill Lodge such a magnificent experience.
Staying at Three trees is special! The Blackburn family and their team offer amazing hospitality and service you are welcomed into the lodge and feel at home immediately. The history of the region plus the diversity of activities is amazing, historical battle walks, wildlife nature walks within the neighbouring Spionkop Nature reserve, excellent horse riding with great horses and tack, mountain biking for the beginners or experienced and general farm life with organic gardens just brilliant.
