We stayed 2 nights at the cavern. All staff are very helpful and friendly: they provided an extra horse riding so we also could join. You can choose between different activities to do, there is nog pressure, you are free to do what you want. Atmosphere is very relaxed. Environment is just wauw!

It was my second time. First was with my family, now with my bestie. What really stands out is the location, food and service. It’s a beautiful and easy drive from Johannesburg. The organised hikes are very nice and a good way to make new contacts. I would have done hikes myself, but was limited because of a knee injury.

Apart from the booking dispute at arrival which resulted our stay being more expensive, we thoroughly enjoyed the full board menu options, the friendly staff, the perfect room and all the amenities on offer. We really really enjoyed it. A lot. We specifically liked the fireplace and heated floors in our room. The resort even had uninterrupted electricity during the time of unprecedented series of loadshedding.

We enjoyed the stay and the staff were very friendly, Mondli took good care of us and I preferred his service when he had to fill in for the drinks stewardess. The food is of good standard and quality. The breakfast combinations were well varied. The lunch buffet was very tasty, considering buffets can be bland - well done to the chef and kitchen team. The dinner time was 'pressured'. It almost felt like we we being rushed to order and finish our meal. The main meal portion was 'small' but we were not left wanting more. Again, very tasty meals and well done to the chef and kitchen team.

A super resort- with many well maintained beautiful trails for hiking, a few dams for trout fishing, (perhaps look at stocking them) great food, fantastic staff & service- space for the whole family to do their own thing, tennis, croquet, a beautiful spa. Highly recommend for a multi-generational gathering providing enough independence for everyone & many nooks & crannies to relax or gather together. Meal times were a pleasure, great food, easy hours & friendly staff. The staff choir was awesome. Facilities were well maintained. Gorgeous with the aloes out. Loved it 🤗

What a beautiful place!!! The rooms were wonderful and the food was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We went on one organized hike to Sugar Loaf mountain. After being in safari mode, it was challenging but well worth it. The views from the top were amazing. We did a couple other hikes on our own. The place is so beautiful. We visited the spa after our hiking. The massages and other treatments were amazing. And the setting in the forest was so peaceful.

We had a fantastic long weekend at the Cavern. Our bedroom was beautiful and newly decorated. The bed was extremely comfy. Food at the Cavern is renowned and didn’t disappoint. We loved the guided walks daily and spending time in the tranquil surroundings. The spa treatments were superb. Overall a fantastic weekend. We’ll be back!

The Cavern was a disappointment to us. It is built on a steep hill facing the valley so you only see the views when on a walk. The walks are poorly signposted. The food was poor. All three days we were there they were cutting down a huge tree right in front of our room with sawdust falling on our little deck; not to mention the noise. The hotel was not full and they could easily have allocated us another room.

Dear gstruik Thank you for taking the time to review us. It's important to know when we don't meet expectations. The Cavern is at the end of the road, surrounded by a rugged sandstone cliff line with views out into the surrounding valley. I find the views to be quite remarkable and at this time of the year, the aloes are in flower and it is an absolute delight watching the birds. In fact I love drinking coffee on the dining room deck and absorbing it all but as they say 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. On the hikes the views are different and even more extensive, absolutely agreed. We have two hiking maps available to guests - one for long walks and a more detailed map, with descriptions for the short hikes. At a number of intersections there are markers and most recently we have added a Trail App to the offering. A little blue dot shows you your exact location so having difficulty finding your way should not be a problem at all. Perhaps you weren't aware but all the details are on our Notice Board. Our gardens are extensive and at times we have to chop trees, mow grass and brush-cut banks. We try to do this in the mornings while guests are normally out of their rooms. The quieter work is left for the afternoon. This past week we actually cut down a tree to open up the views. Other guests in the block enjoyed watching the tree fall and even videoed it for the operator and no-one seems to have come into Reception to mention that there was a problem. We would love to be able to anticipate each person's preferences but unfortunately we don't always get this right. If you'd popped in, we could have easily assisted in moving rooms or stopping the noise. But, it seems its not only the views, the routes and the tree cutting are the problem. The Cavern is not for everyone. The disappointment in our full offering possibly means that this was not really your "cup-of-tea'. The Drakensberg has many wonderful offerings so we hope you find a more suited getaway. With warm wishes, Megan

One of our best 2 night honeymoon destinations. What an absolute pleasure staying at The Cavern! Wow! Amazing and friendly staff and service! Amazing rooms with stunning views! Best served meals 3 times daily... Most beautiful surroundings and nature scenes and animals! Tranquil, relaxing and calming spa sessions and packages. Really nice cavern styled bar area and underground wine cellar! Would most definitely recommend and return some day! Worth every penny, thank you The Cavern and staff! ❤️🧡💛
