We spent a night at Sungubala on route home from the coast. We were thrilled with our decision which ended up being the highlight of our holiday. We woke up early and started a super hike right from the gate, up to Echo caves, Sungubala is magnificently positioned, our rooms in the Rondavels very faultless and we loved the eco systems in place. We will most definitely be back.

We had a wonderful stay in one of the rondavels. The decor, facilities and maintenance of the camp are at a high standard for such an affordable and stunning getaway. We saw Eland in the distance on arrival and also did one of the walks from the camp ‘bishops belly button’ which was a fantastic 2-3 hr hike. We couldn’t fault the service, friendliness of the staff and the facilities were clean and tidy. There is a fireplace inside the main lounge, a fully functional kitchen, or you can braai outside under the stars. What a wonderful little gem we found. Thank you sungubala !

Perfect bungalows, cleanliness and the service. Bungalows have everything what you need for self catering stay, grilling etc.

Nature around is mazing. You can always feel calmness of the mountains around you.

Location is good, but be aware that it is Northern Drakensberg and if you will want to do Amphitheater hike (top one) you will need to drive about two hours to the traill head

Accommodation is simple, bedding and towels are clean. We had a bungalow that had its own kitchen and bathrooms but you can choose smaller accommodation with shared ablutions and kitchens which looked clean and well organised. Staff were there when we needed them (for help with which hike to go on or how to light the gas stove!) Nestled at the foot of beautiful Drakensberg mountains with beautiful views, fantastic hikes ranging from 2 hours to 3,5 hours. A peaceful place with a pool that cooled us off in the heat of the midday sun. We barbecued on most nights and ate at the outside table.

We had a fantastic stay. We initially booked an A-frame en-suite but were upgraded to a rondawel upon arrival which was a pleasant surprise. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, from the lady at reception to the gentlemen at the campsite. They assisted us with walking routes and firewood. The rooms were clean and the beds extremely comfortable. Great value for money and will definitely return again.

Fantastic! The breath-taking views, hiking up to Echo cave, boulder hopping and swimming in the river below the lodge... all outstanding. Simon and Godfrey took care of all our needs with smiles and friendliness, nothing was too much trouble for them - they are gems! Our Rondavel was spotless, with crisp fresh linen and hot steamy showers. I have found my happy place and I will be back for sure, only next time I will be staying for longer. Can't wait to return!!!!

No electricity- hardly any cell reception. Wow, after 5 nights my battery is recharged! Simon and Godfrey were excellent. Our days were filled by sleeping late, stunning walks straight from our doorstep, dipping our legs in the pool. Making toasted sandwiches on the gas stove, drinking afternoon wine by a warm fire! Also privileged to have had 2 spa sessions at the Cavern and some lovely pizza and pasta at the tower of pizza. Royal Natal hikes were splendid at just a 20min drive from Sungubala.

We did the Sungubala challenge - a 10km, 5 hr hike. If you are fit and a fairly experienced hiker this is an absolute must! Godfrey was an awesome guide.

Accommodation is basic but clean. White linen and fluffy towels. Views are spectacular! We stayed in the rondavel with a bathroom. Kitchen had everything we needed.

We cannot wait to be back!

Sungubala is a hidden gem that has a breathtaking mountain backdrop. The layout makes the camp ideal for large groups as the cosy, value for money rooms offer privacy but the communal kitchen, boma, lounge and braai area offers a great opportunity for a social get together. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, making the overall experience that much better. Highly recommend!

Nestled amongst the stunning scenery in the Drakensberg Mountains this place is wonderful. If you want to get away from it all and relax or go hiking this is the place. There is only one plug socket in the whole place and no WiFi...... bliss.
As there is no restaurant there is a kitchen and BBQ you can use.
The views are breathtaking and staff lovely.

Great place, quiet, comfortable and well run. Stayed in the rondawels surrounded by mountains.
Godfrey always ensured there was enough wood for the fireplace, and the dining/lounge area was always warm.
