The barnhouse is spacious and well equipped with nooks and crannies to hide away in, but with space for everyone to sit together for meals! Fires were started for us in the morning so the house was nice and warm by the time we got up, and the endless supply of wood meant that we were warm all the time! The staff were helpful and thorough which made relaxing so much easier. And the walks were varied and well marked to allow for longer rambles or short strolls depending on what we were up for! Overall we had a very pleasant four night stay - I highly recommend it!
An absolutely spectacular venue with 7 star hospitality. Theo, Zizi and Staff are truly wonderful folk. Accomodation is authentic and honours the environment perfectly. Meals exceed expectations. THANK YOU so much to all. See you again soon!
We recently planned a Leadership retreat and wanted the event to flow informally and as organic as possible. This venue was so perfect that I could not have anticipated NEEDING all the space and beautiful surroundings for the flow of the event and the energy that we wanted to create. The various lounges created a cozy atmosphere which served us perfectly for the activities we planned. The staff were absolutely amazing and the food was generous, and so tasty! Thank you Theo and Zizi and all the staff for the amazing hospitality!
The bed really needed to be renewed, and the sound of wind on roof made it impossible to get any sleep at all and we were there for 2 nights, was hoping for a great rest before the new year, that was not the case at all. The views were really amazing , the hiking trails were great, the food was simple but good.
It's the best place if you want to escape. The view is amazing, the rooms are clean and very comfy. The only thing they can work on is the food. The walking trails are also spectacular. The host and staff are out of this world.
Went on a group family vaccination had an amazing stay at the retreat, breath taking trails with spectacular mountain views. Excellent service from Theo & his team. Will highly recommend this retreat.
The management under Theo and Zizi ensured that we were well taken care of throughout the trip. They also shared information and engaged in conversation that was informative and stimulating. The staff were most obliging, caring and cheerful. The setting is magnificent with views to live for, hiking trails and animal and bird life. The retreat has an atmosphere that is unique allowing one to absorb the beauty and serenity of the area in comfort while providing enjoyable food, access to the wilds and home comforts.
We loved the location and the scenery. The house has so much history and the most beautiful furnishings, it was like going back in time. The food was delicious and presented so nicely. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. I spent some time on their Steinway baby grand piano, which was so needed, and I am extremely grateful they allowed me to do so. I would've loved to have spent more time exploring their hiking trails.
Wow! What an amazing experience! The mountains, the hospitality, the great care to detail - immaculate cleanliness, friendliness and specially prepared and delicious meals, the old world charm. Our stay was unforgettable and we will certainly return soon. When last did you see an honesty bar? Drakensberg Mountain Retreat is definitively worth a repeat visit.
Food very average. Library limited in choice. We were the only guests there, boring and nothing different and exciting to do. Poured with rain, so a 4x4 vehicle was required. No TV in room. TV in lounge area had a limited offering. All in all, extremely overrated in terms of value and experience.
