Over the years we have stayed here many times. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The rooms are impeccably clean. The food is fresh and always served straight out the kitchen. This is a very old hotel however the owners are continually upgrading some part of the property and every time we return its just that little bit nicer. I look forward to my next stay and the great hiking we enjoy at Royal natal.

As always we enjoyed a wonder stay over and a great hotel experience. The rooms are comfortable. The food is fabulous. The staff are charming and as always we enjoyed a great stay. From Sandford we drove to Royal Natal Nation park for a day of awesome hiking in one of the best hiking venues in this country. Over the past five years, we've taken about eighty hikers to this venue and all have enjoyed themselves. So we will be back again in the new year!

Said to have been a resting point for weary pioneers in the past, it ended up being exactly that for our group. Its 150 years of history could still be felt despite having been refurbished. I quite liked the overall atmosphere. There was some peaceful and quietness that together with a copious hamburger gave us the strength for the rest of the day venture.

Impeccably clean rooms and facilities. Staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help. The view from our room was beautiful. Wheelchair facilities available. Wifi available. The food is average and we enjoyed it.

We were in room 17 ground floor.

However, no wine or coca cola in the bar. Tiles missing in the bathroom. Dated decor. And noisy day visitors. You also need to request a hairdryer.

We definitely got more value for the money we paid. We got a good discount from agoda.com
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

It is a country hotel so you need to align your expectations to that description.
The hotel does need some tender care. Centrally located very close to Bergville town.

The basics are there. The bed was nice and comfortable. Linen was clean and we got fresh clean towels daily. Water was hot and they have a shower and bath.

I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food.

Gravel road is not as bad as some reviews say. The views from the balcony are spectacular

We book the hotel for our honeymoon, we specifically ask for double bed to our as we are coming for honeymoon,we complained about it and no one was willing to help. Unfriendly staff, ugly breakfast, traveled 400km for such a terrible experience. We had to cut short our stay as we couldn't stay in such condition. I will would not recommend it to any one. I will never go back

The rooms are big as well as the bathroom. The view is beautiful and the bar is very cosy. We had a buffet in the restaurant which was great, especially the dessert. There is not much to do in the close neighborhood.

On a long week-end you expect places to be busy so I booked a table at this hotel's restaurant. Arrived there and only one car parked outside, clearly one of the hotel's vehicles. The buildings are old and neglected. Others would call it quaint, we suppose. Alarm bells start ringing, but we go in, since we have never been here before and we like to try out new places.

Lady at reception says, please seat yourselves. Only the tables inside are laid, nothing on the closed veranda or on the patio is ready. We sit down. The cleaner goes to look for the waitress. She arrives, very friendly, and gives us the menu - bar snacks for Sunday lunch. We ask for the wine list. We notice that the wine bottles are laid out on a rack that definitely gets sun through the front door. It is deathly quiet.

We decide that we have a pressing engagement elsewhere and leave. The security guard lifts the boom for us, not even raising an eyebrow that our lunch took less than 15 minutes. We will not be back.

My family and I recently attended a wedding at Sandford Country Hotel : what a dream venue !
Our rooms were cosy with sweeping views of the majestic Drakensberg.
The cuisine was hearty and tasty - but beware : their delicious home made bread is addictive!
The team at Sandford tick all the boxes of friendliness, professionalism and client focus - they give true meaning to the word "Ubuntu".
The rich historical ambience adds to it's charm and should we need a retreat away from the rat race we will not hesitate to drive down to Sandford to re-charge both our bodies and souls.
Appreciation to all who ensured that our stay at Sandford was a truly unforgettable experience!

Before we talk about the accommodation, let's start with the dinner! The quality of the food and the cooking is really outstanding. No need to even bother looking for restaurants, especially for dinner!

The accommodation is exceptionally well maintained and exceptionally clean. It is located in a slightly isolated position that offers lovely views of the horizon. Just one day spent here was enough to relieve all stress. The yard itself is vast, has a lovely dam and a river literally runs through it!

Driving tip: use the R616 to get there, not the R74 which is in a really bad state at the moment, with roadworks looking like they were progressing very well but suddenly got suspended.

I would recommend a walk around the dam. Games room with table tennis, pool and table soccer was very nice!

In all I felt that I had received good value for money and got back to the city after just 2 days here feeling very, very relaxed.

The dams in the Drakensberg area, especially Sterkfontein Dam, are a lovely sight to behold, it's like you're out at sea.

Finally, Bergville town itself is very small and not geared to cater for tourists; bring everything you will need with you because you might not be able to buy any accessories you might require.

Hello, it is the perfect base for hiking the Northern Berg. We stayed there as we were hiking the Amphitheatre. The hotel is about a 30 minute drive from the park gate.
