This historical building, 11 rooms, pub and wine cellar are worth a visit. Lindsey our host made sure that our stay was comfortable. Felt like home from home. The Golf course is nearby. It is well kept and scenic. Recomended for a visit.

This has got to rate as one of the worst experiences of my life. On arrival, nobody home. Phone the mobile number on the gate, oh sorry I am in town, please wait 10 minutes.
No hot water
Only one towel in the toom when they knew we were 2
“Kitchen” dirty
Fridge off
No glasses/wine glasses etc

No breakfast even though they took my booking for bed and breakfast and never bothered to call me and say the chef is sick

Pathetic

Room Tip: Roads are full of potholes. We lost 2 tyres on the road between Ladybrand and Ficksburg.

I made a booking in July 2019 to stay at Bella Rosa in February 2020. On arrival the first two members of staff (female) were unable to assist with checking me in. But one did ring a male colleague who was said to be the only person who could deal with reservations but was currently not on the property (at 4pm). He returned to the guest house within 5 mins and got out of his car and said to me : you must be here to see me. I wasn't sure who he was as he did not bother to introduce himself. He then started asking me questions as he walked away from me making it hard to hear what he was saying. It turned out he did not have my reservation and when I showed him the e-mail corrsepondence he pointed out that I had made the booking too early and that the person I had made it with no longer worked there. In any case the cottage was not available although he did offer me an alternative room. However I felt that service was poor and decided to look for an alternative.

It was terrible. When we arrived they tried to place us in other rooms than the ones originally booked.
When we arrived that night after attending a function, there was no hot water in Cottage no 7. They did not switch on the geyser. Saturday night there was a huge party on the premises with lost of noise, drinking. People from outside were attending. This noise was going on till 2 o'clock Sunday morning.
We will NEVER stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay was exactly what we hoped for. Will definitely book at Bella Rosa again when we go to Ficksburg next year. Johan was friendly host and shared history with us which was great as it was our first time in Ficksburg.

We were treated like kings by Johan and Estelle. Everything worked 100%. We stayed for 3 days. Very safe. Comfortable rooms. Best breakfast in the Free State. Even before our arrival, we received good communication. Kgotso is a star. Will visit again.

The unfortunately, I have to submit a harsh review based on one room allocated to me via booking on roomsforafrica.com. There were a few options to choose from, all at the same rate and of the 2 couples that stayed here, we drew the short straw.

The room was clean and neat, but that is where the positives end. The shower was dismally inefficient and the 2 taps to operate it were more for decoration than effect. The "bathroom" was a cubicle only divided from the sleeping area by a pair of batwing louvres, offering as much privacy as the pope gets when he parades in his glass covered official vehicle. Not advised for a couple intent on a romantic weekend.

The bed is king size in dimension, but peasant like in comfort. The coffee making facilities consisted out of a kettle on the floor plugged into an extension shared by the TV and satellite decoder. Unfortunately there was no coffee or tea to make. Only sugar, creamer and sugar, even after the room was serviced.

On checking out, the manager was superficially apologetic, stating he was unable to offer me compensation, seeing as the owner does not allow him leeway to negotiate with guests. I did get 2 free beers for my pain and suffering.

What makes this experience all the more frustrating is that the room #3 next door to my room #4 was pretty good value at the same rate.
