Detailed Reviews
Although the hotel is fabulously located, very clean, neat and tidy, there is a lot going wrong here.
Once all our bookings were done we contacted the hotel to request for an early check in as the Air Seychelles flight comes in at 8:30 am and you get to the hotel by 9:30 10:00 latest. We were made to wait for over 2 hours to get our room even though the previous check out had happened at 10:00 am. We were told they don't have any idea how long it will take for housekeeping to hand over the room. After asking the reception over and over again we finally got the room at 12:30 in the afternoon. It would have been absolutely fine if we could have just been told that it will take two hours instead of saying we have no idea of the timeline and cannot be sure of how long your own staff will take to clean a room.
Let's move to the food. As we had breakfast a dinner included in our package we had to sit through what I would describe as consistently the worst meals I have possibly ever eaten in an expensive hotel on an island. The place you expect to be boasting of the freshest fish was actually serving frozen and bulk bought fish for all of its meals. after constant complaints and nothing done we just stopped ordering anything to do with seafood. it was always and consistently inedible.
As far as the local serving staff, they just don't care about you, they don't seem to want to be doing the job at all. If you ask them for something, they will 9 times out of 10 forget to bring it to you and you will have to ask for it over and over again. There were times I would ask for a 2nd or 3rd beer, it would never arrive and by the end of it would be charged in the bill. Neither of them know the meaning of hospitality and if its wasn't for the Indian managers and servers this hotel will be in big trouble. I have gotten into mini altercations with a few of the service staff as they are rude, unfriendly and constantly making no effort to service an order. Even a simple thing like asking for Tobasco is retorted with "we don't have" when there are multiple bottles of them lying around the place.
The bar menu has some decent local cuisine which has a little more taste than the rest of the stale, uncooked, saltless food being served for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was usually ordered in the hotel for which we were paying an upwards of 50 Euro between the two of us for literally very very basic food.
Thanks to Andrew we managed to have a decent time with some of the meals as he helps us choose what was fresh and made sure we ordered the right things for dinner.
By the middle of the holiday we found ourselves craving for a decent meal as there was not even one memorable one we had.
I would not recommend any one go here for a meal if its just to have a tryout. you will certainly be wasting your money.
Besides this the hotel is good to be at. The rooms all have wonderful views, access to the beach is very easy, although a bit rocky, there is a beautiful patch of soft white sand that welcomes you into the crystal clear ocean,
The housekeeping staff was very friendly and sucky (Wonder why the hotel made us wait for 2 hours during check in)
A special mention to Caitlyn (assistant guest relations) for always being friendly and helpful and hearing us out on everything we had to say.

Dear ZeusUnwalla76, Its regrettable to read some of the areas where we fell well below your expectations but valuable and I appreciate you taking your time to share your views on the cuisine, service standards and also being kind enough, off the back of your experience, to reference the positives, including referencing staff that had made your stay better. All your comments have been noted and relayed back to the heads of each department in the affected areas. They are tasked with remedying these instances reported and our General Manager closely monitors this to ensure inconsistencies diminish. A full report is made internally and actions taken to learn from the reviews in order to minimise them happening again. Rest assured that you comments are instrumental to our progress and change is already in progress in large part down to the generosity of our customers taking time to reflect on their stay with us. We trust you had a comfortable journey home and do hope you consider us again in the future, as the only way for this young hotel is upwards and we always strive to better ourselves. Whist we hadn't originally booked to stay here (owners of our booked hotel, The H Resort 'took it over' so booted us out!) we really enjoyed the quiet location, stunning beach, wonderful sea-facing pool room and the friendliness of all the staff. (To name a few: Bernadette, Meryl, Melan, David and Iris were exceptional and Chef Zane pulled out all the stops to serve us a fresh fish feast at the end of our week)
Our pool chalet was clean, spacious and very comfortable and we were able to leave the sliding doors open all the time to hear the crashing waves on the rocks below. A wonderful way to go to sleep and to wake up again!
Wifi was erratic but this really is is the sort of place where you go to get away from the world, so take a digital detox.
I would suggest hiring a car to get around as Carana beach is quite isolated. 15 mins west and you get to Beau Vallon beach which has restaurants and bars (Beach Shak and The Boathouse being the best) and if you are adventurous, drive over the mountains down to the west coast to find the Surf Shack and Del Place which are both worth the trip.
To sum up: Carana Beach hotel is superb.

Dear GrizzNP, We're so pleased that on this occasion your previously booked hotel's loss was our gain and that we were able to make your stay with us comfortable and relaxing. Our staff have all been informed and i know it means a lot to the team when our guests reference individuals that made a difference.. Thank you for your comments, we have made a note related to your WiFi issues and do routinely do tests to keep our supplier informed on service reliability. Despite the merits of a digital detox, we also wish all our guests to have their 'creature comforts' and to have services delivered as expected. Thanks also for sharing some tips for our future guests on where the best spots are to visit in your view, always so helpful! We hope to see you again in the future and trust your trip back home went smoothly. Management - CaranaBeach

A coworker recommended we stay at the Carana Beach Hotel. I feel like I owe her a finders fee given how wonderful our stay turned out. We will definitely be back to Seychelles and we already know that we will be staying at the Carana Beach Hotel.
As beautiful as the property, beach, rooms (we had one with a private pool! đź‘Ť) are, the real attraction of the hotel is the service provided by the staff. Everyone greeted us with smiles (front desk, restaurant, pool, bar, grounds keepers, cleaners) and a consistently expressed desire to meet our needs.
Maureen, at the front desk, helped us get the most out of our stay on Mahe. As busy parents, we had not arranged excursions ahead of time. It was all we could do to pack and make our plane. Maureen helped us arrange 2 last minute all-day getaways and an all-day tour of Mahe. We were able to see 4 islands, a ton of beautiful beaches, snorkle, feed fish, eat fresh fish on the beach, bike, and more.
But, the most impressive indicator of their service level is how they handled my gf's allergy. She is deathly allergic to white potatoes, which are often included in currys. After being prompted, we notified Maureen of this allergy on check-in. Without our knowledge, she called ahead to our excursions to warn them. When we showed up at the buffets, they knew we were coming and had updated the food choices to ensure she could partake in all but one dish! We have never had service like this.
I could go on and on. In summary, we definitely will return to Seychelles. It has the most beautiful beaches, lush environment, and welcoming people we have experienced. And, we will definitely stay at the Carana Beach Hotel.

Dear R.Kahil B, We are so pleased your holiday with us was just right. These reviews are always such a pleasure for us to share with our team. It makes their day and cements the standards we expect of our team on a daily basis. We have been striving from the beginning of this year to ensure that we deliver personalised service to all our guests, consistently with a smile. This goes to show that the training programmes implemented and quality of staff we are retaining and hiring is showing and we are so pleased to hear you will come to join us again. We were glad to note this stay with us was a referral too and do pass on our thanks to your coworker. Keep safe and we look forward to happier times ahead. Management - CaranaBeach

Went to this place for a birthday dinner with my family.
Started with the reception area where there were 2 girls having a chat. We walked in and none of them had the decency to even acknowledge our presence.
Anyway, at the restaurant. We had the option between buffet dinner and a la carte. We decided on the buffet dinner.
The waitress serving us was very unpleasant and didn't not know how to speak to people...
For a buffet dinner, there are not many options available... and the main course is still a la carte.
The price of the food in comparison to the amount of food recieved was no where near..
Upon receiving the bill, we were shocked at the price and decided that this place will never be seeing us again..
Such a ripoff

Dear Emmanuellew2020, We appreciate you taking the time to feedback on your experience after making the decision to spend your birthday, with family at our hotel. We would like to apologise that your experience did not live up to your expectations. We have taken on board the service related comments you have made and they have been escalated to the respective department heads to take up and ensure the usual standards we abide by are not inconsistent. Vigilance, service delivery and attention to detail are all things held dearly by our team, so we let ourselves down on this occasion and will continue to make improvements thanks to you taking the time to point out your experience. Our charges for the steak house buffet on a Friday evening for example, offering a selection of anti pasta, as much as you can eat, a choice of 4-5 cuts of beef, grilled Spatchcock chicken, ribs or grilled fish, all served with sauces, salad and potatoes plus a selection of 10-12 desserts, again as much as you can eat, we anticipate is good value for the price offered, when we have compared to other offerings in other hotels at our level. So, we do make every effort to be competitive and mindful of whats on offer in other hotels, so as to ensure good value and repeat business. We regret that you did not find the food to demonstrate value but can assure you, we change menus, look at portioning and quality continually and have taken you comments on board. Saying the service was awful is an understatement. We were staying at the Hilton Labriz on Silhouette island and came to Mahe to visit some friends. While here we came to the hotel for some lunch to be interrogated before we entered as to what we were doing there. Once allowed through we were treated like outsiders because we weren’t hotel guests even though we were spending our money with them regardless. Due to being too early for lunch we sat and had a drink around the pool but weren’t allowed to use the pool, which at this point we could understand. Then once seated at the restaurant we were given the wrong menu at first and then when a lady brought us our second round of drinks it was 11.56 so we asked if we could order as lunch wasn’t being served until 12. We were refused, to then not be approached for our order until quarter past 12, with the only other table with people on being served before. The three staff members behind the bar were just stood around doing nothing while knowing we wished to order. In addition, once we ordered we were waiting over half an hour for a quesadilla and a burger. It’s irritating because we had made it clear we were here to eat and just shunned. Not to mention I’m pregnant and if too much time passes as I get very hungry it makes me feel very sick. This shouldn’t be something I should have to tell them, all paying customers should be treated equally no matter where they choose to stay. We were looking to spend the rest of the day here on the beach and would have kept buying drinks from the bar but due to the arrogant service we swiftly left afterwards. We visit the Seychelles often and will not be choosing to stay here thanks to this. Let this be a lesson to treat all guests equally, you don’t know what trade you will be missing out on due to rude service.

Dear 298kaitlinm, We would like to apologise for this poor experience you had as an external guest. To offer some perspective on the position of the hotel. Usually we ask that outside guests make reservations in advance. On this occasion there was a breakdown in communication when you were allowed entry without a confirmed booking, hence why you experience what must have felt an interrogation, as the team had no reference of an external guest and a hotel at capacity. We take great pride in ensuring all in-house guests are recognised and when we have outside guests seeking to eat and use our beach, we like to be aware in advance, so we can plan accordingly and make them feel welcome, along with any other external guests that have booked. We have a boutique hotel with facilities that cater for those in-house primarily. If we take too many external guests, particularly when we are at high occupancy, it can lead to overcrowding in the bar and restaurant area. During high occupancy particularly, which is when you visited, we need to run food service at a scheduled time. Had you made it clear you were pregnant and feeling ill, we would have made an exception. We aim to accommodate where we can and have taken your comments away to discuss related to the service experience. Outside guests can visit us for food and beverage only, however although we can't offer our pool and towels to guest, external guests are free to us the public beach at their convenience, if they have booked a meal. Those wishing to use all facilities would need to book day use rooms in advance. We regret the experience you have had and lessons have been learnt and our processes revised. Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience. Management - CaranaBeach Hotel

Situated on one of the most picturesque bays on Mahé, it is an excellent base from which to visit Mahé. It boasts 40 beautifully appointed Ocean View Chalets, 11 of which with private plunge pools, spilling onto the sea and offering an intimate white-sand beach. Each Chalet is beautifully furnished with a colonial island architectural taste: they are spacious with all mod cons and excellent wifi, bathrooms are well appointed, e beautiful deck facing the ocean. The Hotel has a luscious garden and offers delicious food: breakfasts are sumptuous and dinners delicious. Fantastic and professional hospitality offered by all the staff. Don’t forget to book your excursions from Mason’s Travel, highly recommended! Don’t forget to ask for some fresh citronelle (lemon grass) to brew and enjoy for a well deserved break on your private sundeck!

We had booked the ocean view Chalet for 3nights for our honeymoon on halfboard Basis. The room was fine but the basic necessities were missing like toothpastes, bigger water bottles etc. The housekeeping was also not upto the mark. We had to inquire again and again for the things.
The restaurant as well as bar has very limited options in the menu. More appropriate place for people who enjoy alcohol.
Even water was chargeable with the dinner. We were disappointed with the menu especially that fixed for candlelight dinner plus the preparation for it

Dear gauravatulkumarsingh, Thank you for ensuring your experience is recorded. This allows us to review it and act on the areas where we have fallen down from your perspective. Drinking water by the jug is available for guests during mealtime but we do charge for branded bottled water. We are soon to release a fresh and hotly anticipated new menu to be launch after the global troubles we are sadly experiencing retract. We change menus as we are aware tastes change and our guests are always looking for variety. We have noted the comments on housekeeping and will be ensuring our heads of department are aware. Things like toothpaste and bathroom essentials can be delivered on request. A lot of our clients bring their own, which is why some time back, for environmental reasons too, we chose to desist supplying them in-room. We do hope that other than the areas highlighted, you still had a relaxing and memorable stay in Seychelles. We wish you every happiness in your married life together. Management - CaranaBeach

I just returned from my trip to Seychelles and started at Carana Beach. My plane arrived very early in the morning (around 6 am) and I was at the hotel before 7 am. Carana Beach was so accommodating and able to check me in early upon arrival. I was not expecting this but it was so appreciated after a long 24 hours of travel.
I stayed in a room with a plunge pool and could not recommend one of these rooms more. The room is spacious and clean. The pool had an amazing view of the beach and ocean below. The deck area received sun for most of the day as well. My only complaint about the room is that the air conditioner is not the best. It was running at 16c but the room temperature likely was never below 25c.
The staff at this hotel made for a pleasant trip. They all remembered my name and room number and would address me when they saw me. I also celebrated my birthday there and they were kind enough to get me a cake!! So lovely!
I thought the overall food quality was pretty good but it did get a bit repetitive over the week I was there. I was happy with almost everything I ordered.

Hello Kelly, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a glowing review. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our Ocean View Pool Chalet. Out team works really hard to meet expectations like yours and we are happy to hear that we hit the mark for you. Our restaurant is committed to serving dishes that are inspired by local agriculture. This may result in our cuisine having fresh quality meals but a narrow menu. However, we would like to thank you for your honest feedback and will extend it to our kitchen team. Safe Travels and hope to see you again soon! Best island regards, The CaranaBeach Team

Very pleasant stay at Carana Beach Hotel for part or our honeymoon. We enjoyed the decor, location and good local fresh food prepared by a very kind chef that we had the pleasure to meet.
The rooms are very clean, spacious and very comfortable. I loved that our room keeper came twice a day to prepare and clean our room.
We loved the pool area, very relaxing!
A special thank you goes to Bernadette, for always being there to serve us with a smile on her face.
Our waiter, I believe his name was Melan. He went to extra mile to make sure we were good.
And last but not least, our favourite person, Francesca, the gardener. This woman works so hard to keep the garden beautiful. She is humble and has always a smile on her face. Seeing her made us happy everytime!
Thank you to the whole staff for making us feel at home!

Living in Seychelles during the lockdown, we have rarely been out for a meal in two years. On the occasion of our Golden Wedding Anniversary, I decided to look for something special. Iris on reception was very helpful: she promised a decorated table, a special cake for the occasion and the use of the club car as my wife is disabled.
The club car was there and the driver very helpful. However, things then went downhill. The decorated table consisted of a tablecloth and a plastic flower. We ordered our meal and a bottle of wine. Half way through our first course I went to search for the wine as there was no sign of staff. I found it had been left on the bar. Later my wife wanted a bread roll but again no staff so I had to search for someone to provide it. Beef was served with a blunt knife so again I had to get up to search for a steak knife. When the bill came, the items listed were not what we had ordered. The waitress assured us that the figure was correct but "That's the way we do it!" As the figure seemed about right, I did not argue. The food was ordinary but we did not expect fine dining in Seychelles. What we did expect was a memorable evening. The situation is great but the service is dreadful. We are still waiting for our promised, special cake!
The next day I phoned to complain. I was told they did not have a general manager but I was put through to the duty manager who promised to investigate. Later, I had a text from the F&B manager, Vishal, saying he would get back to me after he had met the evening staff. Six days later I am still waiting for the response.

Response from Seychelles Management, General Manager at CaranaBeach
Responded 28 Jul 2021
Dear Mr. Adams On behalf of the entire team, we sincerely apologise for any disappointment caused on the occasion of your anniversary dinner. 50 years of marriage is quite an achievement - and one worth celebrating - and we feel honoured that you chose to celebrate the occasion with us. We feel equally disappointed that such a significant celebration should have been let down by less-than-exemplary service - especially as you had such positive impressions from your initial arrangements. Please rest assured that we take your feedback very seriously and have shared it with the rest of the management team for their urgent attention and future improvements. A member of our management team has already been in touch with you, personally, to discuss your experience. Once again, we are genuinely sorry for your experience. We do hope that one day we can welcome you and your wife back to CaranaBeach to experience the warm and efficient service that we are known for. Please feel free to reach out to us if we can be of any further assistance. Best island regards, Your CaranaBeach Team
