Spent a week at this lovely Colonial Hotel. Had booked a sea view room and was disappointed as because of the number of trees in front of our room, only had a glimpse of the ocean. After speaking to our Rep regarding this, Sabrina from Customer Service kindly moved us to a much nicer room on the ground floor with a beautiful view. Room was very spacious and there was plenty of storage. Food was very good with a great choice. We did find the All Inclusive very confusing. Some of the items were marked with an asterisk and if it had 1 Asterisk that meant it was Premium A.I. which we were not informed about when booking this hotel. We thought A.I. included everything. This also applied for drinks. You were allowed a daiquiri but not a margarita! The beach and sea was amazing at this hotel and kept exceptionally clean by the staff. Nightlife was not the best with only 2 shows a week. There was someone singing in the background behind the bar each night but you could not see or hear them much. We thought it would have been better to have them play outside so maybe people could see them and have a dance. One thing about the dancers was that parents were not controlling their children very much and the children ended up getting in the way of the dancers. One of the men doing the music had to ask the children to move away. Found parents did tend to let their children run around the dining room at night which we found very annoying. Management didn't seem to do anything about this. Staff were very friendly and polite and always ready to help.

My sisters and I had the best stay here. With a beautiful view to the Belle Mare beach from the balcony, the amazing scenery matched the amazing service. Everyone at the Hotel were extremely friendly and attentive, providing excellent service at every point of our time here. Both restaurants provided a variety of tasty cusines, with the Dining room offering live music and traditional Sega show performances. All in all, wish we could have stayed longer and can’t wait to return.

Just returned to Cape Town after a two week stay at this hotel. We had a Colonial Ocean View room and a half board package. No complaints about the room or indeed the quality of service, which was excellent throught out our stay. Big complaint at the absolutely mind blowing prices of wine and beer. I work in the wine business in the UK and the Cape and am well aware of the quality of wine on the wine list at the hotel and the price they would have bought the wine and beer at. For example,a can of Phoenix beer costs R32 at the village shop down the road, and yet it the hotel bar they charge R170. A similar mark up for wine, and I refused to pay such outrageous prices. Hence we bought wine and beer locally and drank in our room before we had dinner. A great shame the Hotel is so greedy as it is certainly not a cheap place to stay. They also charge steeply for any meal chosen other than the half board choices which are very limited
So although I have given a generous 4 star rating,I would not go back to the hotel and urge anyone who does,to not be stupid and pay the crazy drink prices

We had a wonderful ocean view room (217) with large balcony, beautifully decorated and appointed bathroom. Staff pretty faultless, bar expensive but served very well-made cocktails.Staff generally were very helpful and thoughtful. We didn't do much except use the (excellent) gym and go snorkelling. These and lots of other activities come without extra cost.

If you want a high quality hotel and east coast location this is a good choice. More of a middle-aged vibe although there were plenty of kids around, but not that much entertainment is provided which might not suit some people. Evening shows and bands are decent, but not exceptional. Rooms have dvd players with a reasonable selection of movies available free at the front desk. They also provide rooms with a free smart phone allowing internet access and free calls to the UK,France and some other countries. Nice touch!

Food is buffet style with a different theme each night (e.g. Indian, European, Italian etc.) Buffet provides a huge amount of variety and choice, very good for vegetarians with really good curries and salads galore. There is also a separate a la carte restaurant.

We had a cyclone at the end of our stay and the staff worked very well and discretely to secure everything & make the place safe without spoiling guests' experience.

We arrived back from Mauritius this morning having enjoyed a fantastically relaxing week at this amazing hotel. It suited us down to the ground. We went on a package, so drinks and meals were included (I can imagine that if you were not on a package it could mount up!) However,. It was perfect for us as the hotel was not full and the pool was hardly in use. The weather in May is variable but that still meant you can get a tan and enjoy the beach with wonderful loungers complete with towels. The service is excellent. Nothing is ever too much trouble and all the staff - whether a pool boy or receptionist - smile with genuine warmth. Our room overlooked the pool and had a sea view. We were indulged by our private butler who offers to unpack, draw a bath or provide breakfast on the balcony. Heavenly! The only drawback to this holiday is the flight. 12 hours plus a 3 hour stop over in Dubai. But, nonetheless, if ever you feel like wallowing in luxury this is THE place to stay!

Just back from a delightful holiday at this excellent 5* hotel. This was our 7th visit to Mauritius, all at different hotels and this one was one of the best. The rooms were spacious with a balcony, ours overlooking the garden, but seeing the sea to the right. The beds were very comfortable and we slept for England! Obviously we needed it! Excellent luxurious bathroom with a walk in shower and a spacious bath. The toiletry products were gorgeous, especially the soap! I had a bit of a gripe trying to get the body lotion out of the bottle, it was near impossible to do so. When I shook it, squeezed it and finally stuck my finger into it, it was very nice!

The food was excellent as one would expect in Mauritius, being a fusion of Indian, Mediterranean and Oriental flavours, some hot and spicy and some not. The Capitan or Emperor fish was a real treat! We preferred going to The Plantation Restaurant especially in the evenings rather than the buffet. Both restaurants need booking in advance, and sometimes The Plantation was fully booked for the evening by 3pm. So book after breakfast if you want to go there. So many of the waitering staff were excellent and enjoyable to chat to. Raj (I think one of the supervisors) was exceptionally friendly, attentive and good fun to chat to! Sorry we could not say goodbye! Rakesh and Akesh were two more that were very attentive, thank you! My only complaint about the food was that there was too much to eat for me. Having said that my husband and son managed to eat it all. I loved the turmeric and onion bread that accompanied the meals at The Plantation.

The cocktails were magical! The Pino colada was to die for!!

The beach was excellent with crystal clear waters in the sea. The bathing area is safe protected by the coral reef and designated areas for bathers from the boats for safety reasons. There were the usual water-sports to enjoy, if that is your interest.

I forgot how many swimming pools there are included a jacuzzi! The pool area is safe, numerous sun loungers with ample towels and umbrellas.

The entertainment was pretty good. I enjoy the Sega Dancers and the musicians who played in the evening, especially the group Moody's Mood with two fantastic singers; Francesca and the guy who played the trumpet. Thank you for entertaining us!

We didn't visit the island much this time, as we had done this before. We had one taxi ride to the other side of the island, which took about 45 minutes to get there.

My only negative comments were that on our arrival we were never given our welcome cocktail. Every hotel in Mauritius does this and we were surprised when we received nothing. We subsequently saw other guests being offered them on their arrival. We chose not to say anything at the time because we didn't want to spoil our holiday.

The other comment to make is the cost of items in the shop. They were rather exorbitant. We had our younger adult son with us on this holiday, and he bought a panama hat from the shop and when we settled our bill to our shock and amazement it was £125. Much much cheaper from the beach sellers, but he had worn it all holiday so he could hardly take it back. But, be warned!

Summery is that it was an excellent holiday, thank you all!

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, charming staff and delightfully friendly locals. Highly recommended. Perhaps being there for Chinese New Year will not suit everyone though, with their occupancy rate being 42%.

Hotel is in a great location with a lovely sandy beach. thoroughly recommend the beach side restaurant where the food is waiter service and very good. Try the satay chicken skewers which are served on their own little hot coals. Tempura prawns were also tasty.
Staff were generally very friendly but sometimes they didn't seem to give out the correct information.

Looked like they're were doing training for some of the less experienced staff which was good to see.

I was also under the impression that yoga classes were available. From the fitness centre info it appeared to only be vastly overpriced one on one sessions.

There was no information to tell you that every day at 11.00 poolside there was Aquafit. Sometimes at breakfast there were newsletters but never seemed to be any English ones available.

Buffets were pretty good with lots of choice. The Indian buffet in particular was excellent (this was on Diwali so they may have pulled out the stops for it).

The bands each evening in the bar area were really good, as were the cocktails. As with Mauritius generally drinks are exorbitantly priced. Best to go for the rum based cocktails which are always very generous. We also bought a few bottles of wine in duty free on the way out and put those in the mini bar. One way to save £30.00/bottle!

It's a short walk to a small village but not a lot there. You do need to use taxis to get most places but they are good to hire for daily sightseeing and they will take you where you wish for, less than an organised coach tour.

Rooms were kept very clean. The sofa in the rooms are very uncomfortable. We had a downstairs room on a corner. So whilst it was billed as a garden view room we had a side view to the sea, the bonus being we were out of the sea breeze which can be quite brisk on the east side of the island.

Spa treatments are reasonable price and massages good.

We had a late flight and they let us use the spa to shower and change before we left for home.

All in all I would go back there.

Final word - if your safe fails to unlock it might not be your fault. We had a safe breaker with a drill out to liberate our belongings. Whilst we were there this also had to be done in another room. They were very efficient and tidy with it. Looks like it might happen quite often!

We stayed here for a few nights only before setting off on a cruise. I wish we could have stayed longer. We liked it very much, particularly the amazing beach. Our room was very luxurious too, with a lovely balcony on which to sit and drink something chilled and watch the locals fish beyond the reef or the tourists splash about in the shallows.
The internet was patchy but, mostly, worked in the main bar/restaurant area. Breakfast offered a vast choice, although the cooked foods were oddly tepid for the first couple of days. This was a lovely place to stay though and our small grumbles not really an issue in the balance. Would be delighted to return one day.

"We had a smashing room, that seemed to be right at the furthest end of the building. It was lovely and quiet but only a few minutes' walk from the activity by the pool/bar/restaurant. Our parents had a room on the ground level, more conveniently for them, that seemed a little more exposed and less private than ours was."
