So we were lucky enough to be able to stay on the serenity plus package for 3 wonderful weeks at the Shandrani hotel in Mauritius in Feb 2023.

Whilst we have been fortunate to stay in the hotel for short period of time on several occasions over the past few years, this was our first time staying there for a longer period of time.

I’m not going to repeat what others have said about the facilities this wonderful hotel offers, I’ll just give you a quick summary of our experience.

Firstly, whilst this hotel is in a beautiful setting, the food variety and choices are sublime, the vista is utter bliss, the stand out feature that the Shandrani has over and above the location and facilities are its staff. They are unbelievable.

No matter which dept of the hotel they worked for, the time of day or the query, without exception every single member of staff we met (and over the 3 weeks we met almost all of them) were warm, generous in their time, totally hospitable and an absolute credit to the hotel and to the Beachcomber company.

Their mantra ‘if you’re happy, then we are happy’ really was something that they live and breathe.

That said, in a place where customer service is at such a consistently high standard, there are still some stand out members of staff we would like to thanks:

Krishnee and Patrick – wonderful, friendly people who just brightens up a day in paradise with their contagious positive personalities. You both made the beach service you provided such a pleasure.

Artee and Nisha from the spa- Angels with magic skills for sure. Professional and skilful.

Viraj, Nanidee and Sewduth in the blue bay bar – excellent, intuitive and on point.

Veevanashee- who by now will be working at reception. A ray of sunshine, so professional, so funny and undoubtedly will be an absolute asset to the reception team.

Jayraj- an elder statesman of the hotel group having worked for them for 32 years – if you want to know what excellent service looks like, you will see it in action when you get some of the gourmet meals found anywhere in the hotel restaurants served to you by Jayraj.

Dave – an absolute gentleman who looked after our room with expertise and precision for our whole stay which included during a cat 3 cyclone.

Chandan – in the Grande Port. Doctor - we hope both of your new pairs of trainers are good. Thanks for all the fab wine recommends.

As has been said by others, the range of food at the grand port( buffet), the Ponte Vecchio restaurant ( Italian) , the Spanish restaurant, the Team elephant (Thai), the Sirius ( gourmet Mauritian) or the Boucannier (seafood) was consistently excellent. There was not a dish to be faulted and its good to see that the restaurants change the menus on a cyclical basis too so there is a lot of variety.

The entertainment was honestly exceptional. The range and quality of acts was out of this world and really did enhance our stay.

Whilst we were there, we experienced a cyclone. Having been to Mauritius a number of times previous, we’ve had the experience before but this hotel did not skip a beat in terms of ensuring that we still had a great holiday experience despite the weather.

Communication was regular, all staff provided reassurance in relevant information and even when we were unable to go to the Sirius restaurant due to the cyclone, the alternative option for us was great.

During this time the general manager was really visible and providing great leadership, direction and support to staff and guests alike but this was not just a one off. He was always visible and present in the hotel and this leadership style no doubt is one of the reasons why this felt like such a happy place to be.

Overall, out stay surpassed out already high expectation. We loved every minute of it and are already planning our next trip back.

Don’t think twice to book a holiday to this little piece of tropical heaven on earth… you’ll never want to go anywhere else 😊

We stayed at here for two nights in total our first point of contact was Areille the reception manager
Arielle organised this fantastic peace of heaven for us and on arrival we where met by gets relations Orally
Who was very helpful and organised our check in.
Orally let us know all the information of the hotel and served us with some drinks to refresh us and a cool towel this was fantastic also
Orally contacted Areiille whom meat us at reception ,As our room was not quite ready yet Areille suggested that we could wait in the pool bar area and gave us a time when it would be ready.

The rooms where very nice and comfortable and very clean only thing was that we had to ask for extra water to be topped up at reception

The staff in the restaurant where very attentive our waiter Jason whom we met on the first day was so very friendly,Nothing was any trouble for Jason and even when we wanted a restaurant recommendation Jason was happy to help
On the second night we met Yannish in the bar area he is a very happy and friendly person and was always very up beat we both found yannish to be so customer oriented he really was fantastic yannish even came to meet us to say goodbye.
We really appreciated that Areille could arrange for a late checkout for us as we were enjoying ourselves so much.

We booked a lobster dinner on one of the nights and although it was not possible to have it on the beach directly it was very nicely presented in the restaurant the presentation was very beautiful and ambience was amazing all the staff were so very attentive and nothing was any trouble

All in all the stay in your hotel was fantastic and made better by the staff.

The one major problem for me as a tourist driving in Mauritius was that the signage for the hotel was extremely poor/ nowhere to be seen and as the road way to the hotel was not in keeping with the beauty and 5 star status of the hotel it was very hard to find and be sure you were about to arrive at this hotel

We stayed at Shandrani for a week, but I think it wasn't enough. We enjoyed our room (very big and clean - maintained a few times a day I think - judging by the many times we went back to the room and found the little things cleaned or re-arranged) , the view from the balcony was to die for, the beaches mesmerized us everyday, the staff was spotless, always smiling and ready to help and the restaurants had a great variety of food and drinks, all tasty and inviting. The boys at the main bar were always ready to rescue us when we were unsure what to have next, they were very friendly and made us feel really good around them. Pina Colada girl says "Hi" to the most smiling bar staff boy (I looked for you on our last day to say goodbye, but I couldn't find you :( ). All the employees at Shandrani deserve all the best for making guests feel most welcomed and cared for in a very discrete and thoughtful way. Thank you. We hope yo come back one day and try all the other activities and night shows that we did not get to try. Wishing you all the best, Mădălina and Alex.

Wonderfully appointed resort, whose warm and accommodating staff complete the sublime experience. The food in the 5 restaurants offer huge variety and is excellent (we dined at 3 of the 5 restaurants). We were aware of a forthcoming major renovation but this was barely evident as the resort still certainly looked the part. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. The beautiful surroundings are perfectly complemented by the resorts layout and the beautifully decorated interiors.

Upon arrival, which was quite late we appreciated the approach of rather sitting down and the reception staff attending to you rather than queuing. All arrangements to take us and our luggage to our rooms were forthcoming and efficient. The rooms were on the third floor which offered great views in the morning, and you can clearly see through to the ocean. The deluxe rooms are spacious. Our room was superbly looked after by Nanda during our stay.

The beach is clean and you are able to get a lounger with shade without too much searching. The beach service is always accessible and ready to assist.

The main restaurant offers a completely different menu for lunch and dinner every day. I felt the food was really superb and there was always something new to tempt you.

The Thai themed restaurant The Teak Elephant (advance booking required - best to do on arrival) offered a fixed sharing menu. But they did accommodate our dietary requirements with pleasure (vegetarian for my wife and no beef for me) .

Back in SA and we are about to go into a lockdown. I am fondly remembering my husband and my trip to Shandrani in Mauritius. We had the best time of our lives! The staff was incredibly welcoming and attended to our every need. Thank you Sabrina for changing the pillows in our room, Nawsheen for getting us into Teak Elephant (best restaurant ever!), for Beatrice for making yummy pina coladas, Jeanmarc for taking us snorkeling and Mejita for booking the boat excursions.

The water of the lagoon is crystal clear and very nice for snorkeling and swimming. The restaurants and bars served delicious food and drinks whilst Patrick and the team from beach service ensured we had fresh towels and enough water whilst on the beach. They got a buggie that brings you cooldrinks, water and sandwiches on the beach. No trouble was ever too much!

The rooms were very spacious with an enormous bed and crisp white linen, a lovely couch, and a nice bath and shower with shampoo and conditioner that is suitable for sensitive skin. I was blown away!

Thank you for giving us so many fond memories to hold onto as we enter a period of uncertainty. When all this is over, we are definitely booking another trip to Shandrani.

We stayed at Shandrani at the end of December for 10 days.
1. Check In: Very slow and we had the feeling that they were unprepared for us. Eventually we were showed to our room.
2. Golf Cart pick up service was also slow and we almost missed our airport transfer on the way back as the golf cart didn't pitch up. We had to walk in the pouring rain.
3. International plug adapters, the information book in our room said you can pay a deposit to use an international adapter but when we went to reception to get one they informed me that all plugs fit their plugs which I already knew didn't and they didn't give us an adapter as requested.
4. The beach service was almost non existent, when you saw the beach waiters in purple you would almost have to run after them to get service.

5. The food was outstanding and every meal had a different variety on offer, always excellent and well presented.
6. The bedrooms are a very good size and have everything you need. The hair dryers are outdated though.
7. The pool service and chairs, facilities were very good and very comfortable.
8.Beach is stunning as well as all the water sports on offer.
9. Snorkellng off the beach is excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the sea.
10. The staff mostly speak french so communication can be a challenge at times.
11. I would definitely return as the location, food, snorkeling are tops.

The hotel is beautifully spread out with access to a beautiful shallow calm bay on on side and the ocean on the other. This provides access to calm waters for kids to play and all sorts of water sports even for beginners whereas you can pop across to the ocean side for some waves and sea spray.
The rooms are large and ground floor provides direct access to the beach within a few meters.
Staff is very friendly and helpful with a typical island charm and really make a difference to your stay with an excellent attitude and service. Air conditioning in the rooms was adequate.
Located conveniently close to the airport just a ten minute drive makes shuttling back and forth a breeze.
Buffet food was good, particularly the seafood and local cuisines with different cuisines everyday. Unfortunately all the Ala carte restaurants were fully booked through our entire midweek stay so we could not sample those which was a pity as the only area where the hotel did not excel was the buffet.
2 spaced out pools and bars means even at full capacity the hotel does not feel crowded at any point.

Met Isabelle who checked us in to our room and continued the whole stay to make sure we were enjoying our stay and always on hand. Thank you for always making time to help us. This friendliness continues throughout the resort with polite staff always willing to help you and a smile on their faces. We had a room 386 which was a little walk from the main reception but with views directly over the lagoon from the balcony. Little buggys take you through the well kept gardens from one end of the resort to the A la carte Serius Restaurant, if like my daughter you have walking difficulties or just want a ride.
The sea was so calm and warm on the lagoon side and saw many fish in the shallow water. Canoes and pedallo boats can be used which were enjoyable. We did not visit the beach on the other side with the waves as rather windy.
We went on a boat trip booked with Zulu who walks up and down the beach His son Mathew took us out in the boat "Princess" and was a splendid day. Just the three of us on the boat trip so not having to please everyone else or wait for other people. Went to all the spectacular, scenic spots and enjoyed lobster, fish and chicken buffet with wine on the beach Would definitely recommend speaking to him. A memorable full day out. A friendly character who sings also!!!
We ate in all the restaurants, apart from the vegan one, the Thai been our favourite. In all restaurants they catered for my daughters gluten free requirements making her pancakes for breakfast, and umpteen delicious Crème Brules, thank you Raymon and Papa Chef. Thank you to Denis and Sunjay in the main restaurant for always ensuring we were catered for and for always been so happy and loving life. Dennis for organising the (Suzuki) Satsuka for breakfast, Brian the waiter, Christophe in the Serius and Aloop who worked so hard in their jobs. I hope Aloop goes far. Theirry the entertainment manager for checking all ok Always plenty of choice in the restaurants and drinks selection.
The spa facilities were excellent and used here for beauty treatments. Didn't have a massage as the sun was shining and quite burnt but lovely relaxing area to rest after treatment and again friendly staff.
Yes it is close to the airport and planes fly over but no more than 5 a day and you get used to it. None fly during the night and the reason we chose here was because we hate long transfers to your hotel once landed and this hotel is about 10-15 minutes journey from the airport. They are closing for renovations May - November but cant see where they will improve on an already perfect paradise.

Have just returned from a most enjoyable 16 nights at The Shandrani. Received a great welcome from Nawsheen who had gone to the bother of booking us in to a selection of the dining outlets based on our previous selections.
Also received a very warm welcome from the General Manager who faces a Herculean task with the forthcoming reconstruction.
As before the accommodation and meals were excellent. Darshana had prepared our room for us and when we went on to the beach Patrick and Electra looked to our needs assisted by Rathvar amongst others. Our fridge was kept well stocked by Roddy and the room was always serviced well.
We lunched daily in the Sirius and although all the waiters were excellent we thank Ravi Kendy Rayvah and Ashoka especially for looking after us and remembering our requirements.
A small query with the bill was rectified by Bernard in a very friendly and efficient way.
Denis the manager in Le Grand Port was outstanding and again remembered our individual needs.
We loved the Ponte Vecchio and the Teak Elephant where received a great welcome back from Mary Jane.
We know the Hotel is to undergo significant reconstruction and we are delighted to have that as an excuse to revisit next year not that we needed one!
All in all a wonderful holiday we would recommend to anyone.

This was our 12th visit to Mauritius but the first ta this resort. My initial disappointment was that the view from reception and the main pool and bar was similar to a lake and not the usual Indian ocean view I was expecting and had flown 12 hours for, But what the hotel lacks in the main resort area it makes up for with the kindness of the staff and the excellent extensive serenity plus package.

The main beach by reception is shallow. There are no umbrellas on the beach and hardly ever anyone on it

The second beach has beautiful clear water and is very shallow. Again a but: The beach where the sun beds are doesn't appear to be raked and has a lot of gritty sand and rubble . The pool at this beach is very dated and un attractive

The wild beach is beautiful but is only accessible by very strong swimmers . There are warnings of rip tides and currents

Restaurants

The buffet is open breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is another option for breakfast and lunch. The Sirrius bar. Breakfast is from 9.30 and lunch from 2.00pm which may work for some but lunch menu is very limited. .

The lunch at the buffet could be quite limited and not the experience we hoped for. We would have enjoyed an a la carte lunch close to the sea. You could order paninis from the blue bay bar from 11.30am

There is a good choice of restaurants in the evening and we never had any trouble booking into them. The Teak Elephant and the fish restaurant was our favourite

The rooms are very nice. we were in a deluxe ground floor which was very light and airy with ample storage space. and beautifully cleaned. it opened out onto grass overlooking the sea

This is a large resort but you can get a buggy around if too hot or dark to walk. The grounds are beautiful. It was nice to have a choice in the evenings of the blue bay bar with entertainment or the quiet end sitting amongst the palm trees.

Because of the position of the resort we did not see one sunset

The staff are lovely. Very kind, professional and well trained. A real credit to the hotel. They did their utmost to give us a good holiday

We had a wonderful time in spite of the "buts " wish we were back there now

Hi there, Shandrani or Beachcomber should be able to confirm this but I believe that to and from Shandrani it is included as the airport is very close by. Regards

You should be able to use the main beach near the main pool as the sand isn’t too deep so your own chair will be fine
